Great video. I like how a small girl is in the video showing anyone can do this. What is a good overall length to start with. I currently have a 10ft Tsunami but want to upgrade to a 12fter perhaps?
I would love to go head to head with my 4-5oz weight and a hunk of Mackerel on the leader and really see who can cast the farthest. This technique has been used for years but know-one can cast this far with a real leader and bait.
Still wish all the fisherman the best and mean no disrespect.
You should be able to find someone near where you live to help you out. If you practice and perfect the technique you will increase your distance. I have only met one caster that had not competed before that could compete with a competition caster for distance with or without bait, Tiny Smith Oklahoma. I have fished and done seminars from the Boston to Mexico, technique is very important. Thanks for the question.

This is only good for competition, not realistic for people who use bait at the end of the line. I have been surf casting for 15 yrs off the Pacific and must say that I've never, ever seen any fisherman cast this far or even close, with a leader and bait at the end of the line. I mean no disrespect!
I'm very proud of my casts and have worked on many different types over the years but would love to see any of these people cast in a real situation, i.e with a nice chunk of mackerel or squid.

@jignpro
That 10ft rod you have should work. Improving technique will get you better distance.

What about casting with spinning reels?

@Alefl75
Same rules apply, I impersonally am not very good with a spinning reel. A good caster with a spinning reel will get great distance as well.
