There was a popularity of emo bands around 1999-2003 for the most part, bands like saves the day, hot rod circuit, the getup kids...those are emo bands. Then screaming became increasingly popular with bands like alexisonfire and silverstein and other POST-HARDCORE bands. If anything, bands like hawthorne heights and saosin are screamo, and even then i dont agree with the name

Anyone who defends the genre of a band does so out of the interest of looking cool. The only reason why you would care about what genre the band is, is so that people who know what music you listen to can think that you are cool because you have a refined taste in music.

I agree with the people defending the genre. All the new age underoath, chiodos, pierce the veil, pretty styled hair type scene kids need to not use the word screemo for their genre. ( I like some of that stuff too ) but this was ours first. years ago. technical punk with emotive topics. Not fashion infused whiny metal pop. Not in a spiteful way but educate yourselves.

I played in two screamo bands from Portugal.
I have 30 years of age, the word screamo became used as sex. Nowadays you can find kids saying that funeral for a friend, bless the fall, underoath and many more shit is screamo! Screamo´s from 90´s, search and learn for those who talk nonsense. cheers

Anyone who defends the genre of a band does so out of the interest of looking cool. The only reason why you would care about what genre the band is, is so that people who know what music you listen to can think that you are cool because you have a refined taste in music.

Holy shit, why do people who are already familiar with this band perpetuate the topic of genre classification? Im just passing through, exploring music, looking for gems. The music is good, but the fans seem to be pretentious infantile slobs who concern themselves with others who have a difference in education or opinion. @endsequence Yes I'm a fan of Orchid. I started listening to them like 8 or 9 years ago. The reason people bicker about the whole genre thing is because about 10 years ago this is what a screamo band was. Not many people listened to the shit. Then out of nowhere the word "screamo" just exploded and everyone out there started using it to describe bands that have nothing in common with shit like Orchid. That's why people who've been into this stuff for a long time get pissed off.

Like what Derek Miller said, he said screamo describes a thousand different genres. Basically, ignorant people call any music "screamo" if it has screaming vocals in it. People have made the term "screamo" a pretty vague term nowadays with this new stuff. I call it new wave screamo, modern screamo, or screamocore mostly post- hardcore, that's what I usually listen to. Word limit

@TheStroomis Well they used to be fucking badass deathcore IMO, but now they are metalcore, the shitty kind live, because the frontman smoked too much. You hate the band or the singer or the sound? The drummer is badass, and the guitarist is too. They don't really suck live only the singer does, but the band suffers,. Also, without the singer they would lose the majority of their fanbase.

I've never met a girl who was all "OMG Mike Hranica is so cute with his missing front tooth." It's all about Oli Sykes and shitty deathcore. TDWP is metal, and they're heavy as fuck. BMTH is, as you say, a modern day boy band.

I've never heard them whine about anything, or say they missed their girlfriend. I'm also sure no one would shit their pants if they listened to Disrupt or Doom or any of the other bands you claim to be "real old good raw hardcore punk" or whatever you said. TDWP is heavy, well-written, metal. Period.

@TheStroomis I can see why you're aggravated. People associate screamo these days as anything with screaming in it, but really it's not like that all. I remember being a kid who listened to shit like Silverstein, Atreyu, Scaring Kids Scaring Kids, but then when I heard bands like this, Daitro, Saetia, Raein, La Quiete, Pg. 99 I began to realize how much better music was when I was listening to bands like them versus that crap on Victory/Rise Records.
