.... nothing. it freaked me out and the pet or ,soda bottle, juast expanded like crazy it felt like a rock. sooo i had to open it of course and first off it was so pressurized that the grooves holding the cap on really worked i almost couldent get open then... BOOM hella fizz i let it go like a firework on the ground outside and it went onn for miniutes. tasted really bad but was carbonated. just my 2 cents and a long ass story. its possible to cap it off for a little bit.
you could probably cap that bottle off for a little while. like less than a week. i put strait molasses and sugar with regular and beer yeast then capped it off to make some shitty meady rum for fun and cheap. but.... i forgot about it and left it in a cupboard for 3 months....! :0 and guess what happened?
my opinion : CO2 diffuser is not necessary, diffision by stone is a little less but still acceptable... but avoid big waterstreamings, because waterstreams take back CO2 out of water....but i'm still trying to find out what the best sugar / water / yeast ratio is ?
CO2 is used by plants to promote extra fotosynthese (light + CO2) and growth : CO2 > 02 in light (or day) and O2 > CO2 at night by the plants... and -because it lowers the pH , carbonACID may also be good for fish who desire lower pH, but on the other side - too much CO2 (or H2CO3) can be bad for fish so i'm not sure.... conclusion : No extra CO2 at night because plant are producing CO2 at night so plants don't use CO2, and otherwise CO2 level can be too high at night for fish.
@mattmax11 fake plants dont look as good and come damage some fishes fins. a planted tank looks much better than a tank with fake plants. co2 helps them to grow really nice and green :)
hey! nice vid! i was wondering why cant the plants get CO2 from the fish? and when u make this for long dose this make CO2? thnk also do u see a diff in plant growth ? thnks!
Very cool man... very cool. I am doing a little research before I make my Co2 generator. I like your idea, except I'm trying to just generate Co2 to a gas and have the plants absorb it via foliar. I wonder if this will work with your design?
I know Co2 is heavier than air, so the generator will need to be above the plants, with the Co2 "settling down to the plant canopy. We shall find out soon. I will post a video response when it's complete.
@theyouthis yea I hear ya... I only turn the C02 on at night when I shut the fans off. The stomatas on the plants leaves open up the most during photo-period (dark period) and thats when I let the C02 do it's thing. As long as there is no air movement and the C02 is above the plants, then the C02 should just slowly settle on to the plant canopy. It's just too bad c02 is invisible or else we could be able to better understand the movement of co2.
All u gotta do is put the mash into a pressure cooker or equivalent after your done and heat it to 176 degrees which seperates the alcohol and run it through a cooled copper line into a pot and you got moonshine
@sensi42069 You'd be loosing about 85% of your Co2 If thats fine with you and your lowtech tank have fun. I rather spend 8 dollars and get a 99% efficiency diffuser
no u do not. its just for precasions. UNLESS the c02 thingy is under the fish tank, then YES its abosolutly nessceary, due to fluid pressures, worst case sceriaro would be that the yeast sugar water would go into the fish tank itself. killz yo fishies =[
Well, it's been awhile since I've had this set up. To the people who are wondering why I had an airpump present, I was new to CO2 supplementing, and didn't realize the excess CO2 would just gas off. For what it's worth, the anacharis shoots were all sending little roots towards it.
The check valve is there so if the bottle should lose pressure, it won't drain my tank.
I don't think it's a good idea to use this to carbonate a drink. I think that requires higher pressure. Don't close the bottle
That's the way I make soda - and if you are not careful you *will* have a ceiling to clean up. The eruption is quite remarkable. How much yeast dd you use? I just use 1 packet - so it takes a day to get a really good stream of gas.
@underdog5004 so it doesn't matter how much co2 you're putting in because it'll just go away from the tank some how? Like even if you have lots of bubbles coming out through the day it's ok ? and if you have a air pump inside it pumping oxygen at the same time is it alright?
nah, i planed to add a valve to controll the flow and always keep a litle pressure in the botle.... but i dont think that the bottle will explode if i would put a valve on it
does the check valve make sure that the yest sugar water wouldn't come out? i plan on doing this. . cant control it but i will only do during the day with light. i can close bottle at night.
no, the check valve doesnt keep the yeast, sugar, and water from going into the tank.
the check valve stops the tank water from back siphoning and draining the aquarium when the bottle pressure drops.
DONT close the bottle at night, it can cause the bottle to explode. i run the c02 during the day, at night i pull the line out of the water and turn on the air pump. the c02 continues to run outside of the water untill i put it back in.
has a greater education than 6th grade science class, please back me up and tell this guy that he will get greater results if he takes the air stone, and that as long as he has enough plants to support the fish's need for oxygen, hes better off taking the air stone out to get increase growth from his plants.
technically he wont need the air stone because the plants will give off a great deal of o2, assuming they are supported properly. but ur attitude sucks, and there are far better ways to say what you needed to say than trying to make urself look higher and mightier than the OP and thus make yourself look like an ass.
Thats right, you dont need the airstone as long as your plants are supplied with enough micro and macro nutrients and light, you shouldnt have a problem with your fish being killed. Thats what ive been saying the whole time, if you didnt cathc on to that.
make the air and the water to have the same ratio of co2 and 02 s the air. When you add co2 to the water from the fermenting yeast, and then add an air stone, you will get water with a slightly higher co2 ratio than the air. And plants use mainly cellular respiration at night instead of photosynthesis during the day. So in lame terms, your to ignorant to realize that your working against yourself by adding the air pump. Please someone that
Ummmm, is that another airstone is the back of your tank that's under the gravel???? What's the point of adding co2 of your just going to add o2???? Your stupid lmao,
You ARE stupid lmao. When you use and air pump that takes gas from the atmosphere, it not only has o2 in it, it has co2 also. And both get dissolved into the tank water. Adding an air stone to dissolve the gas from the air pump causes the water the have the same ratio of 02 and co2 as the air does. Therefore the reason people use air stones is to try and
wow, nice, quick and simple. so the water temperature is pretty important then? also, when you first started, were you constantly checking ph levels? also, how could you tell how many ppms you had without a drop checker? im still trying to wrap my head around CO2 in planted tanks in general. thanks for a good vid!
You have to much water in that bottle . Its best to fill it max half way up some say only 1/4 or as it expands it will flow in to tank or burst bottle. Godd looking you are but cut back on the water level
you need to give more info than that. How did you prepare the yeast/sugar/water mix? Did you use hot or tepid water? Is your cap/hose assembly airtight?
