  • Squash cassarole sounds so good! Jim listening to your mother's stories is such a treat! Your chitlins must be the equivalent to our Lutefisk; the smell will kill you! LOL! I'm hungry for BBQ now!

  • good God in heaven above, I miss the South. gotta get some money saved up so I can move back.

TVA, one of the worst and greatest things of the South.

Can I join in on this dinner? It looks SUPER fun.

  • Sodpoo described them well. They are usually served with fried fish or fried seafood in my part of the country.

  • It's true that you learn something every day... Until this morning I never knew what chitlins are... So now if I ever see it on the menu I know enough to steer clear. That barbecue restaurant looks inviting!

  • Andy I've never eaten them myself and don't plan to. LOL You would have loved that barbecue!

  • Maybe someday I'll get to try it... Without the chitlins LOL

  • Chitlins are just nasty! Would love to see your mom make a carmel cake! That stuff is to die for! Looks like a lovely birthday celebration! Blessings,Ang

  • I'll have to see if she'll make us a caramel cake next time. It sounds like everyone would like that. Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for taking us a long on the drive and to lunch. Enjoyed it.

  • Thanks for coming along with us. We love to eat. LOL -Jim

  • Bless her heart... gotta love Mother Country. Love to hear her stories. Happy B-day Mother and Sister. ((Big ole squeeze to y'all))

  • Hi Jo Jo. I'll be sure to pass along the birthday wishes!

  • what? mother country uses colorful language? no way! i loved hearing about the TVA taking their house. i want more of that story ;)

  • Gail I'll have to ask her more about TVA. You noticed she said that they took the house. I'm sure they bought the land but they didn't have a choice in the matter.

  • Happy birthday to both of them! Aren't you the good son bleeping mom's colorfulness. I would have loved to hear her. Just love to hear her talk about anything. What a great story teller. Thanks Jim.

  • Hey Dave. I'll have to see if she'll tell us some more stories one of these days. Thanks for watching!

  • Happy Birthday to our favorite Women of Country! Thank you so much for sharing Mother Country with us! Her stories are truly a treasure. I should really do the same with my Mother. I'm going to plan on that before the Holidays. Mother C mentioning that very place being where she grew up, gave me the idea of taking my Mom back to her hometown and doing a video cruise. Getting the story at the actual locations on film? Priceless!

  • Thanks Steph. You really should do a video with your Mom. Everyone seems to love those kind of videos.

  • Hushpuppies are little balls of wonderful! LoL Actually, It starts with a cornmeal batter..kind of like cornbread. They are dropped by the spoonful into hot oil. Served with a little melted butter. You can google it if you would like to see what they look like.. Best if they are homemade.

  • So THAT'S what chitlins are?? Too funny - for some reason I thought it was some kind of plant (please don't laugh - I live a sheltered life).

    :-)

    Happy Birthday to SisterCountry!

    Looks like a delicious celebration.

  • Hey Curt. I knew what chitlins are but have never seen them cooked. I've seen them over in Alabama at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in a wrapped container in the meat section and they look like a bundle of white intestines. Pretty gross looking. LOL

  • Jim I was thinking while I watched this video. What is it about us people from the south and our relationship with food ?? Every time anyone in our family has a birthday we go out to eat or plan a big meal at home, when someone in the community dies we go to cooking immediately to take over to the family, holidays are all centered around what we are cooking.. When I get upset I always start eating to make myself feel better.. We love food here in the south, don't we ?? Your mom is wonderful

  • Dolores that's the truth. We structure our lives around food. LOL I'm with you on eating under stress or pressure. Some folks say they can't eat when they are stressed or upset but I'm just the opposite. Thanks for watching!

  • Mmm, squash dressing and caramel cake. She must do a caramel cake! Chitlins ugghh, they smell like poo cooking! You have to boil them, then you can fry them and some people just eat them boiled, I don't know how they do it, fried or boiled I'm not touching them!

  • I'll have to see if she'll make us a caramel cake on camera.

  • Aww...I just love Mother Country and her stories. Thankyou Jim. hugs, Chris

  • Hey Chris. Thanks for watching!

  • oh no, not chitlins! I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to try them... I'll stick with Lutefisk instead :)

  • None for me either John! LOL And, no Lutefiske either!

  • A GREAT VIDEO!!!! I love hearing MotherCountry tell stories...WE WANT MORE!!!!!!....I WANT BBQ!!!!!

  • Ronnie I think she likes this YouTube fame so I'll keep asking her questions. LOL You would love that BBQ joint!

  • I have never smelled chitlins, but when

I was growing up, it was kidneys simmering

on a hot skillet that would make me run from

    the room.

  • Hi Robert. I've never smelled either of those things but can just imagine! LOL

  • Great video Jim! Happy Birthday to your mother and sis!! Looks like a great place to go.

  • Hey Sherron. I think MotherCountry is enjoying her fame. She can't even turn on a computer but she's fascinated that people like to watch her talk on YouTube. LOL

  • I've ate squirrels, and I've ate groundhogs. Once I even ate part of a serpent, but there ain't no way I am eatin' the pipes out of a hog! LOL!

Dogs got to eat same as you and me. Give them chitlin to the dogs!

  • I'm with you buddy. I'm not eating any hog pipes either! LOL

  • That was soooo neat. Isn't it cool hearing the old stories our parents tell.

Happy Birthday to both of them!

    :)PJ

  • Thanks PJ. I'll be sure and tell them for you! -Jim

  • Ok I will pass on chitlins.:) You know a place has got to be good when there are many people in it.

  • Jamie I think I'll pass as well. LOL That place is always packed and you're right, it's a sign of good food. Thanks for watching! -Jim
