I made a twin mount just like this today, took it for a test drive tonight worked great, thanks for the fun tip and idea, the final cost was less than, $8.00 for a cheap bicycle light project.
Hey thanks man! I made one of these a year ago and it has been ROCK SOLID,and just made another one recently. Now I have dual headlight,234 lumen total light output. This is not the best looking mount, but is very functional and sturdy. Thanks for such a good video!
That is cool and everything, but just get a few of those "twofish" rubber and velcro lock blocks.. They are cheap and more adjustable and work awesome.. Check them out at 4sevens under "biker's corner" ... Best place to buy them I think. That website appears to be down at the moment.. oh well.. try later I guess.
Twofish also makes a larger version called the Cycleblock for heavier lights and/or lights with a larger diameter battery tube. You can also use a couple of either version of these to mount a u-lock to your handlebar. Good luck!
Search eBay for "Twofish Lockblock." Usually there is a seller listing several at $5 with free shipping. It's a great solution for LED flashlights and secures with heavy duty velcro straps attached to a rubber block that is molded to fit all handlebars without slipping. As an added plus it is easy to undo one velcro strap to take your light with you when you park.
Nice! I've been looking for a way to mount a light to my fork so it floods a bit better, and the other cheap way, hose clamps, wouldn't have been adjustable.
use yonex super grap grip. it is ultra sticky compared to the wilson grip. those are made for wet sweaty hands before they really get maximum grip, but the super grap from yonex is sticky best when its dry.
btw you should pick up a p7 from dealextreme
and @ bonezz: i love it when random people with no life watch random clips on youtube and put "gaaaaaaaaaaay" comments on the page. nothing better to do than to troll. hahha
yonex super grap badminton grip. its way stickier and longer lasting than those wilsons that are made to absorb water; especially since your bar doesnt sweat it is better to use a stickier tape
@nickbubblehead Put in some time with file, sandpaper and Krylon and you can make it look like a custom piece color matched to your bike - which is exactly what it will be. Tell people it's hand molded crabon fibre if you're afraid of your roadie buddies making fun of you.
I just have a suggestion to add, instead of using the tennis racket grip you should be able to achieve something similar with an old bike tire or inner tube - I have cut up old (non-road worthy) tires and used the strips to act in just that way.

Thank you! I still have this mount on my bike and it has held up without a single problem for months. About to buy a new bike and I hope it fits the new one (Specialized Disc 29er Comp) as well as it fit my old clunker.
Well most plumbing supply stores should have a similar item, I'd check there. As far as Lowes discontinuing it you can ask an associate to look it up on the computer and see what other stores in you area have it. I'll check my store and see if it is the same there and if so I'll also see if there is a replacement part.
damn thats pretty cool...i should have bought a light from dealextreme when i bought my torch, but now i have a light and no mount. I'll try hitting up the local hardware store. It may look a LITTLE big on my bike, so i might check for something smaller
BTW, great idea, i don't know if anyone else has found this problem but i find that many front light brackets dont give much clearance between the bike light and the brake/gear cables, i always find the cables get in the way sometimes. You idea also solves that problem ^^
That is a great idea! Thanks for posting this video. I used to use a headlamp and wrap it around my handle bars but did not work effectively. I have a Coast LED flashlight too so I'm really considering your idea. Thanks again!
True but then it wouldn't be as easily removed. Using some rubber that is sticky on one side works great, has not wobble, rotated or fallen on since I attached it. It's in the exact same position as when I first installed it and my bike has gone many miles since installing it. But I always welcome constructive criticism!
As an update I used this light mount on my bike and traveled a good 20+ miles on a recent trip through mixed terrain (mostly gravel, sand, brush, a few downed trees and a lot of roots) it held strong and kept the light very secure. I added some rubber strips to the part that holds the flashlight to keep it from shifting once installed. Certainly an upgrade I'd suggest to anyone who follows my mount instructions.
Pretty cool idea, but you can also use electrtical conduit fixtures that come in strips & is easily trimmed, and if you are worried about how it will look, you can always cover it in handlebar wrap.
Thanks for sharing. Some things are so obvious you never think about it until someone like yourself shares a simple and inexpensive idea.

@obankobi Just buy it at walmart I got both front and rear for 14 bucks

You could also hose clamp it onto the bars. That won't move at all.

All you need now is some black KRYLON PAINT FOR PLASTIC spray piant.Make sure you give it a light sanding with 400 grit sandpaper before you apply.

Great video. I tried something similar but it just wouldnt work out as I had no threaded joint.
I reckon you could cut the handlebar end down with a hacksaw so its not so wide for a roadbike too.

I've added the parts list under the "more info" section. Also the name of the grip tape is H2O Overgrip by Wilson.
