  • More hooks than a Pirate Convention! Not to mention great harmonies and writing..Better than that ..Where was I ,,,on Cruiseships. By the way, I have all the analog sounds on my old keyboards ( I have six) and I loved them the most. . .Just saying RJM. Love you BIGTIME!

  • Only us :-)

  • I knew em

  • Still my all time favourite album, 20 years after first hearing it. Every song is pure perfection. I'll never get bored of it. No matter what mood your in, it's brilliant.

     Two fantastic albums of quality.

  • This song taught me so much about creative harmonizing. Will always <3 them!

  • Roger Manning is a straight up BADASS !

  • Dig it, I seen them open up for Tears for Fears back in '93 and fell in love ever since, 2 albums just wasn't enough.

  • @Bucfever40

That would have been my dream concert! Are you kidding me?

  • 3:15 Look at Roger go!!

  • I love these guys, memories of playing madden and golden axe on the megadrive (genesis) and taking mushrooms and listening to this album, great days!!!!

  • What's this song about, guys?

  • @iwokeuphalfundressed Basically, a husband who left his family to fight in a war, from the sounds of it (though that could be figurative language), and ended up leaving them when they needed him most. Out of shame, he left them for good and watches his daughter grow up from afar.

    So...yeah...the song's not a happy one.

  • @iwokeuphalfundressed: The lyrics are the lamentations from a dead naval sailor who died in combat and who is speaking from the after-life (I'd like to think looking down from heaven) as he looks upon his son growing up. It's incredibly poignant. My heart breaks every time that I hear it and it make me thankful for our troops who risk their lives to protect us. It's stunning that a rock band is singing from the 1st-person perspective of a dead sailor.

  • I loved this song at 1st-listen, 1990. Ran out & got the CD. Still love it. Saw them at the San Jose Oasis Club with my girl. Awesome. Sad they split. Flash forward a dozen years & I'm married to that girl, watching the Teen Titans cartoons with our kids thinking its the best damned theme song since Secret Agent Man (1963). Couldn't stop singing it. I look it up. It's written & produced by Andy Sturmer of Jellyfish. Figures. I wish theyd do the world a favor & reunite for a few CDs.

  • love this band even though this isn't my fav type of music... they have an aWESOME SOUND

  • This is one of my fave songs ever... just gorgeous.

  • i love this song and this version even if it doesn't have the harmonica solo like on the record, which is perhaps my favorite instrumental refrain ever, cant really say why

  • Check out the interview with Roger and Jason... still together after all these years. Jason and Roger were supposedly friends or aquaintences before Jason joined. I believe it was Roger who informed Jason that there was an opening for guitar player. Pretty sweet!

  • im a punk, gypsy jazz, reggae, rockabily musician and i love this band

  • I just discovered these guys, really thanks to their wonderfully quirky song "Ignorance is Bliss". They are fantastic! Shame they broke up so early. They could have really taken off. I'll be getting their albums for sure.

  • It's like they are all possessed!.. in a good way.. lol!.. Go Jellyfish!! ahhh man.

  • Here's how good these guys were: This is the first track on this band's debut album. Think about that for a second.

These guys have the balls to put out one of the most depressing songs about a miserable subject and have it be the first thing people hear on the record. I LOVE THIS BAND, both albums, and a little part of me died when they broke up.

  • Phenomenally insightful (and accurate) comment. Their brilliance never fails to amaze me, no matter how many times I listen to them. In the age of MP3 players, I usually only hear them one song at a time, but I recently listened to both albums in full, and my mind was blown (again). Pure genius.

  • bellybutton is the best album i've ever heard, no matter what(!) mood ur in, its nothing short of brilliance.

  • They played a big part in my years at college.I' m still educating people. Great band.

  • eine meiner ersten Cd´s

  • A chilling song, both in message and lyrics -- I first heard this song when I was in the military overseas in the 1st gulf war . still gives me pause when i hear it, tnx for the memories.

  • Thanks for putting this up. Brilliance personified

  • My fave band. Very talented and i speak as a both a jazz and classical musician. There are others like this out there (ben folds five, imperial drag) of which I also have all their stuff but i think JF are the best.

  • The best band ever that no one knew.

  • I still have their 2 cds in my car. Great music to jam and chill after a stressful day. Then I jam Steve Vai and Fo0fighters what a nice combination. heh make another album guys PLEASE

  • gr8 band gr8 song

  • I was at Summerfest that year too, and I was absloutely blown away by Jellyfish. If I remember they played the Miller Jazz Oasis and the crowd was just huge...they stopped everyone in their tracks.

They left the Femmes and Fishbone in the dust.

  • Marcus Amphitheater it was. I sat in the 7th row. Kickass!!! All 3 were wonderful.

  • Thank you for posting this vid! I truly miss these guys. I saw them open for the Violent Femmes at Summerfest in Milwaukee in the early '90s. Fishbone was the between act. Just excellent.

  • I agree with all! I saw them at Slims in SF in like 92? and they were unbelievably tight-the 4 part harmonies were totally on & i gotta say Jason Falkner is a vastly underrated guitarist, never overplays, every note is chosen perfectly

  • this is one of the greatest songs of all time wow

  • they were on their way to greatness. What a band.

  • Great Song!

  • The only band that I can honestly say any fan of this band is considered family to me because anyone who loves them has the right dna. I love you all. Andy, Roger Jason, everyone thank you for blessing my life with your music collectively and individually

  • here here

  • You sound like an awesome person. You put it the best of anyone on these comments. It is really difficult to find people that are into good music like this. I really wish they would put out more stuff.

  • May we all breed to make more cool Jellyfish fans.

  • Nice!!

  • This one's for my boy F.E. Word to Struggle for life. Stapled Shut, and Drop Zone!

  • What a fantastic clip (along with the other Jellyfish clips). Until now, I had only heard this band on the original albums. To see this now; all these years later; well, all I can say is Happy New Year.

  • I've come to realize that Jellyfish is/was my favorite American band ever. God, were they good! I got to see them live once in Washington, DC - I will never forget it. It's unlikely that they'll ever reunite, but we can always hope.

  • wish they woud get back for a show, even if just one... love strummer and the boys

  • Best group since The Beatles

  • One of my fave songs.

  • glammer, you are on a roll. Thanks a ton.
