In the latter case, of a tribe somewhere claiming to be jewish , the claim is normally investigated, it's usually doubtful so if they think they're jewish, they still have to go through a conversion just incase. This is what happened with the people from Ethiopia claiming to be Jewish, that were brought to Israel in what was called Operation Moses in the 80s to bring them over.

"The nation of israel" is mentioned many times in the old testament (Torah), and is a guideline of how to live and what kind of government that must be formed, the laws of the land, of which all jews abide by whether Israeli or not.

judaism is a religion but jews themselves are an ethnic group. jews are originally of middle easten ancestry. I don't see how someone from east asian ancestry could claim to be middle eastern.

There are not Arab Jews and European Jews. They are Jews living in Europe and Jews living in the Middle East. @boliusb It is a fact. Ashkenazi jews are not semites. I am not a racist, just stating fact. Ashkenazis lived in the middle east just as much as these Chinese jews did. Sephardi jews on the other hand did live in that region. Call me racist if you want, but those are the facts.
