Lucy Arnaz is very tall for a woman, which makes Donny, who was small back then anyway, look tiny next to her. Lucy was ONLY semi-famous because of her Mom, as she personally had very little true talent. In this performance, she was singing SO off key it is painful to listen to her. Donny was extremely talented (and still is), and his singing was good, but the song was totally cheesy even for him to make it enjoyable. And Lucy's performance was simply awful.

This was actually one of the best episodes in the 5th season of Here's Lucy. Lucie Arnaz' voice here was a bit flat but she was only 21 when this episode was filmed. She is very talented and within a few years was starring in "Seesaw" on broadway and eventually "They're Playing Our Song".

Some interesting history on this snippet: it's from a 1972 episode of "Here's Lucy". Donny Osmond supposedly had a boyhood crush at the time on Lucille Ball's daughter Lucie Arnaz. This episode was written for him. Lucie was 21 at the time and already married. Donny was just a month shy of 15.... Lucie had to sit on the stool due to the fact she was a lot taller than Donny at the time.

Anyone who had half the talent of Lucille Ball would be a star. It's not fair to compare people with superstars who are way above everyone else. Very very very few people have that kind of talent. On top of that, I think Lucille went so far because of her top-notch determination. Lucy Arnaz could have made it further if she really wanted to, but that requires a lot of personal sacrifice and maybe she didn't want to sacrifice herself and her family. She never went hungry, to put it mildly.
