  • Nice plants, pretty heathy too! it must be good to have those plants! Your Garden is a pepper persons dream! :)

  • @BlurryVideos2011 - Hey! I can't believe I haven't responded to your comment, man. I am so sorry. Thank you very much for the compliment. I really appreciate it. I figure that if I can do it, especially here in Canada, anyone can. I'm always happy to give a few tips if asked. Thanks again for watching my videos.

  • What if you spray the plants with soapy water BEFORE the aphids can infest them? Would that work to keep them from attacking the plant?? My Bell pepper flowers kept falling off. Why does this happen??

  • @womanofsoul1 I washed all the soil from the roots of the plants, as I was transplanting them. I cut the roots and the branches down. I did a careful examination of all the leaves left, front and back. I put each plant in the bathtub and gave them a good wash with sprayed on soapy water and a handheld shower. It took me most of a day and evening. Still I got aphids, as you can see. I don't know what else to do, actually. This past year I didn't bring in any plants. No bugs. Thx for posting.

  • Try mixing water and dish washing liquid. It works very well on aphids, squah bug and potatoe beetle eggs in the spring/summer. It also works on the adults.

  • @tafisherjr Yeah. That was one of the first things I tried. I had them in the bathtub, cut them back and sprayed them with a mixture of water and dishwashing liquid until I was sure that I had gotten them all. It seemed to work, but after a while they started coming out again. You can keep them manageable but I don't believe you can actually get rid of them. In the end, though, my plants thrived, once outside. Bad experience in the Winter. I won't be repeating it. Thx for your comment.

  • ladybugs love aphids.

  • @BIGE5599 Yes, they do. Ladybug larva love them even more. Thanks for posting your comment.

  • I had aphid problems last winter in the house, as well.

One temporary fix was a mixture of water, rubbing alcohol, and a few drops of unscented soap. I applied every few days as needed, which seemed to check the aphids.

Eventually, I put a ladybug on one of my plants and it laid eggs overnight. The eggs hatched and I moved the larvae around to different plants, letting them do their work. Two or three larvae cleaned and kept my plants aphid-free.

  • @Andalbanon Well, I've learned my lesson. This year I will not be bringing any plants into the house. I will just start fresh with new peppers in January. Bringing all the plants in last year, I only wound up with half a dozen still alive when Spring came. Simply wasn't worth it. Your recipe sounds interesting, though. The rubbing alcohol makes sense. They are soft bodied, after all. Thanks so much for taking the time to post a comment. It's much appreciated.

  • when you see bugs you can cut up a hot pepper and maybe some garlic, and some water, put it in a spray bottle and let it soak for a couple hours or shake it up really good and spray it on your plants

  • @ahorvath96 One of the few remedies I've never tried. Seems funny to get rid of bugs on a pepper plant by spraying them with pepper. Kind of ironic. Have you had success with this kind of spray?

  • @SAK59 no i saw it on google lol, never tried

  • good air flow will help keep bugs away from settling into your grow space. IE a fan circulating air.

  • @yOfaCE1904 Ah, but I brought the aphids in from the garden. It's true that there wasn't a lot of air circulation around the plants, but I can't see that it would have helped much once they settled in and took over. A fan circulating air around the plants helps to strengthen the stems and prepares the plants better for the real world. One year I'll have to look into that. Thank you very much for taking the time to make your suggestion. Much appreciated.

  • @SAK59

Yep, it wouldn't have helped. You need strong air flow, and I mean enough to cause wind stress to the leaves. Once aphids are set in, they are REALLY annoying to remove. I've tried the whole fan thing, and didn't do a single thing to the athids, and we're talking about a high powered fan too in which I did end up damaging my plant, but the athids were just dig in really well.

  • @TheLostCat2000 I agree with this assessment! Even if it had been successful, I would have been simply blowing aphids around the house. Mrs. SAK59 would have kicked my arse. As it was, she was not happy at the very thought of bugs, even contained to my plant area. Thanks for describing your experience. Very interesting!!

  • Wow! That is a lot of aphids.

  • @chillilover1 Yeah. I shiver thinking about them. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It is really appreciated.

  • sak59 i can completely empathise with you on your aphid problems as i had the same issue last september with some cayenne plants. This year i am trying habs and jalapeno and hopefully will not have the same problem. Nice work with the vids please keep them coming!

  • @deganter Good luck with your plants. I really hope you don't have any aphids this year. Honestly, if it hadn't been for those little pests I would have had nuch nicer plants this year. What a horror. Once outside, though, the aphids are all gone. Nice little ladybugs! Thank you for your nice comment.

  • Those Aphids look very healthy, the scourge of the chilli grower (also scale are bad too). Another informative video of good quality. Well done.

  • @clonedheat - Those aphids were a disaster for my plants. I am not bringing plants in anymore. From now on I just concentrate on growing healthy new plants every year. Thank you for the nice words. It's much appreciated.

  • Plants are good I'm hopeing to make a vidio on them within 2 weeks.

  • @fatturdburger - Does that come in a spray, or is it a concentrate that you dilute? What kind of pests have you used it on?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Hey sak have you gotten any more pepper plants. Also when do you think your next vid is gona come out.

  • @slaminblades - I have 25 plants growing at this time, though some are really small. I have 7 pods, Scorpions, Nagas, Bhuts, Scotch Bonnets, Fatallis; a Pequin, Orange Hab, Cayenne, Cveta Hot and Red Savina. I'll be putting out my next video whenever we are past the threat of frost and I can get my plants outside.

Do you have your plants, yet? Thanks for the question.

  • Hey SAK I'm going to a huge gardning place this year and I was wondering if what would be the best kinds of peppers to grow. I'm lookin to go for some very hot peepers like the seven pot and bught jelokial I dont know how to spell it, but I was wondering what youd recomend. Keep postin vids.

  • Hi Slaminblades. Glad to give you my opinion, based on experience.

Here is what I would get: Definitely Seven Pods, my favorite. If there are no Seven Pods but there are Trinidad Scorpions, those are similar enough. Bhut Jolokias were very disappointing. They took forever to produce and at that very few. Naga Morich were great. Tons of peppers, ripened quickly & very hot. Get Hot Paper Lanterns; another fast, hot & tasty pod.

Subjective list, of course. Others may disagree. Thx

  • I feel your pain man. I remember last year when the afids got my plants. Had to scrap them off by hand, but my hard work paid off. I still have my bannana pepper plant from last year its like 2'1" tall and is fairly decent. Well I just thought I see if you had any more vids love the work you put into your ganden, and I wish you luck. So keep postin vids man really aprriciate it.

  • Thanks for the support slaminblades. Glad to hear that you managed to beat the aphids. If I can just keep them to a minimum long enough to get the plants outside so that the ladybugs can take over, everything will be fine.

Thanks again for the great comment.

  • Can I suggest Dr. Bronner's castille peppermint soap? It killed all my aphids after one cleaning!

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I doubt I can find it around here...maybe online. Anything is worth a try.

  • Top video mate, i enjoyed it a lot.

You have a very calming voice.

  • Thanks TyaxComp. I really appreciate the compliment.

  • Yes, I got it online. Look it up, believe me its worth it.

  • @SCOBO111 -- I have ordered the soap. I read that the directions are to put 2 tablespoons in a gallon of water. Is that how much you used when you were successful at getting rid of the aphids? Thanks.

  • @SAK59 yep thats what I did - good luck!

  • makes me itch just looking at those little blighters.

I had aphids come on my indoor plants last year so i put them outside when the weather got bad and killed the aphids off that way. Just had to be real careful not to kill the plants.

    good luck.

I'm of now to get started on some more seeding and sorting my garden out.

  • Aphids are the worst. Did you actually manage to kill them all off permanently by putting the plants outside? I definitely couldn't try that here. The snow would kill off the plants first. You should do up a video of your pepper plants. That would be interesting to watch.

Thanks for taking the time to post a comment.

  • @SAK59

    yeah the aphids went

my gran swears by soapy water in a spray.

my other gran used to blow cigarette smoke into a bag and place the bag over smaller plants lol this is true i don't know if it worked but she was a good gardener so....

as soon as my gardens fully organised i'll do a pepper vid can't wait for this summer!

  • Hey Sak, I only kept 3 of last years plants and they had aphids real bad also so I cut them back and they are coming back just fine. Check out my Vid.

  • Thanks again tman120120! You have a great looking video. Your plants look fantastic. Thanks for responding to my video with yours.

  • great stuff sorry sak.

  • Hi Bahamalesster! The pequin you see in the video is from the seed uou sent me. Unfortunately none of the other seeds came up. I still have them planted - hoping for the best, though. But, I'm excited about that pequin.

Thanks again. Thanks for posting the comment.

  • Great video. Sorry you lost so many plants. Hope your garden is great this year.

  • @My2Bunnies Thank you. I'm very proud of them.

  • very nice video man

  • Thanks for the compliment.
