OMG , only once in my life I saw a hummingbird nest close to my window already with eggs but the stupid landlord started some "weekend" carpentry project (open air) close to the nest and the loud noises and vibrations scared the parents away ..... leaving the nest to rotten ... They never came back.
Fantastic footage....something to behold. I monitored a nest near my house...everything was going well, then, there was one baby. It was sitting up high, feathered. One evening when I checked on it, always checking very briefly to not attract attention, I saw that the nest was destroyed. Does anyone know what could have happened? I told my neighbor about the nest so she doesn't trim the branch, and she said she saw the baby too.
@BlossomEndRot it was probably cats or squirrels. sometimes they would try to eat the little things. nature is also a cause. that is because a strong wind could have tore up the nest and just leave it. do not try to take the bird home no matter how resisting!!!!!
@beautydeadlyrose thank you for your thoughts. No, there was no sign of mom or babies--just a demolished nest. I suspect a rat or mouse because there has been an over abundance of them in this area this year. I understand that rats will attack a nest with untended babies. It is also possible that they fledged before the nest was destroyed. I hope so.

It would be wondeful to see a hummingbird nest in the wild...and then carefully observe and then creep away so as not disturb the little loves
