  • @gsaugen people always told me it meant that the girl the song was written about had found grey (silver) hairs in her hair..

  • I have a question for all S & G fans: What does SAIL ON, SILVERGIRL mean in BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS? Who's SILVERGIRL? I'm not a native speaker of English and I guess my English is good but I've never understood the meaning of those verses. Could anyone explain them to me? (GILBERTO SAUGEN FROM BRAZIL)

  • Is it '73 or '74? My first wild camping and we pitched our tent at the sea shore. In the early hours no sound but that of the sea waves accompanying this song playing from the transistor radio...that's the memory this song lingers with.

  • I'm 55 now and this song came out when I started to notice music. They have so many wonderful songs. You never get tired of them. Great relaxing music........Thanks for posting.

  • one of the 5 best songs ever

  • everyone, don't try and sing along to this one. Never, please!

  • my best song!

  • 1969 I just moved to Tucson, had a new child...life was beautiful!

  • I LIKE THIS SONG VERY MUCH.

    PLEASE CHECK MY VERSION.

    THANKS.

  • I love it, never tired of listening. At the end of busy day, listening to this iconic song, I feel so relaxed.

  • This is so good

  • Unlike in the 40s and some of the 50s, this was an era in which you were not taken seriously as a musician if you didn't write, sing, and play your own music. So much creativity and beauty. We were stunned by it.

  • Well sung by Garfunkel.

But I think it's a shame, that the title doesn't say Paul Simon too, since he actually was the one who wrote this masterpiece.

  • @Powiean

Performed by Art Garfunkel, not by Paul Simon. But I agree on the fact that this is a masterpiece :D

  • @iv0r007

I know it's Art who's performing it. But he wouldn't do that, if Paul didn't fucking write it ;)

  • @Powiean

I doubt whether Paul had written it without Art, as he can't quite sing this one ;)

  • @iv0r007

We can keep discussing, but you wouldn't have any damn words if it wasn't for Paul, that's all I'm saying :)

  • @Powiean

You're right. I also am a huge fan of Paul, but I think Art earns a little bit more fame for his splendid singing :)

  • @iv0r007

Let's just agree that they're both fantastic :)

  • @Powiean

I couldn't disagree on that, even if I wanted to :D

  • They're both Still Crazy After All These Years ... not easily said or done at 70

  • He's Still Got It

  • Art Garfunkel is so freakin' awesome!!! Love his voice!!

  • I saw him in concert about 30 years ago-his voice is a musical instrument like no other.

  • my parent danced on this song for their wedding. Wonderfull. I am 19 and I like the music of Simon and Garfunkel. I want them to come together again and tour. My wish:)

  • @OogInOogMetFie

Well there's good news they are together but bad news is Art has a vocal problem hopefully he'll get better.

  • always in my soul...

  • To not just have such an incredible voice, but to have sung one of the greatest songs every written. They were both blessed to have had each other to share their unique talents.

  • Art keeps the vocals interesting, as always.

  • Aah, this music is like medicine for my soul. It brings back such warm, wonderful memories for me. Thank you very much for posting it.

  • @MarkThompson01

    No problem

  • An angel. No one better!

  • beautifully done.

  • So moving.

He has that inexplicable timbre to his voice...smooth with that gentle rasp, it's mind blowing.

  • I agree

  • I love the way you described his voice. Spot on.

  • Man, you just gotta love how he stretches that last line.

  • Yeah I know. Fantastic Eh? lol

    Thanks for the comment

  • What a beautiful, angelic voice! Love you Art!

  • Actually, this was written before they broke up, on the last album before they did, which was conveniently called Bridge Over Troubled Water. Still, GORGEOUS song, Paul is a talented writer and Art is a master virtuoso singer. I wanted to do this song for my private voice lesson at school, but they wouldn't let me, no "pop" :-(

  • Never mind my friend I'm sure other places will let you try this song I find it easy to sing it in the Original key.

  • @IvoriesAblaze Well, at least you know your instructors rank "Bridge Over Troubled Water" way up there with "Oops!...I Did It Again."

  • @KnightOneDark Zing

  • masterpiece.

  • I Agree

  • a classic! never get tired of listening

  • I agree

  • das lied wurde zur beerdigung meines vaters gespielt ... ruhe in frieden ... ich hab dich lieb....wir sehen uns irgendwann ... hoffentlich...

  • For me this is a real Masterpiece that makes a Marvelous metaphore of a Bridge Over Troubled Water to signify that a true friend could become your bridge - with great structural resistance - to save you from that trobled water underneath your feet! Great song of Simon & Garfunkel.

  • I Have to agree

  • i have seen the live song rendered by this singer in one of music videos here, oh my god there is no doubt the singer deserved the right to have this song for him, he sung it so well...bravo!

  • Sounds cool. glad you like it.

  • There´s no voice more perfect than this one.

  • I have to agree

  • Try Elvis on Ed sullivan singing peace in the valley....

  • Err....OK

  • NOT by Art Garfunkel, by Simon & Garfunkel. Paul wrote it, and Garfunkel sang most of it. (I think all of it on this one. xD)

  • Art Garfunkel did sing all of it on this one.

This was the time when Simon & Garfunkel was seperated. /:-|

  • DDDD: Sad. Y'know what song makes me cry? "The Only Living Boy in New York". That's the breakup song for them. Artie wanted to do a movie and Paul wanted to stay in music...So...Yeah...Depressing. D:

  • Oh well incase you don't know Simon & Garfunkel are together right now they're touring around New Zealand. :-)

  • Not just New Zealand, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. (How'd Japan get in there?) Might I add you to my friends list?

  • Oh they're touring in Japan to.

Ha I did not know that. XD

And adding me on your friends list?

    You go right ahead. :-)

  • I know, it's kind-of out there, isn't it?

I mean "New Zealand and Australia" that's NORMAL. "New Zealand, Australia and JAPAN" I mean...Lol. Not nearly as noticable...Or normal. And thanks.

  • Your Welcome

  • :D Lol. Always glad to hear that.

  • Rien n'égale la douceur, la délicatesse de cette voix pourtant si forte..... J'adore depuis des années et pourtant je ne m'en lasse pas....

  • THANKS FOR THE POST

  • No problem

  • That's the voice of an angel

  • I agree with you

  • I saw Simon and Garfunkel last night in Sydney and jeez... Garfunkel hit one or two notes wrong in the set, but the end of Bridge Over Troubled Water was so breathtaking, the last note in particular, he held for sooo long.

  • Thats...sounds......crazy <:-(

Its must have been a night apart from that problem.

  • wow...

  • I know Fantastic. huh?

  • einfach unbeschreiblich gut

  • omg ... thats just a perfect performance :)

  • I know Its THE fantastic performance

  • Perfection

  • Glad you like it.

  • was will man zu so einem Klassiker noch sagen - Augen zu und die Zeit zurückdrehen - Erste liebe , erster Kontakt in dunkeln. hhmmm schweb
