Dad didn't recant much of his recording era to me but was always a bit ashamed that much of the Revel work was very costly to produce....It just about broke them in the day or it might have been another artist they represented....
Norgolde was a mixture of two names....Harold Nussbaum went by Hal Norton and Bill Goldstein is where you got the GOLD....Hence...Norgolde Records....Bill recently passed away leaving a huge collection of the the Norgolde collections somewhere in Philadelphia or Florida. Don't know what will happen to the collection but my guess is it will go to his daughter and family to carry along their legacy.
I saw a clip on a PBS TV show years ago that turned me onto this number of the band performing it on what I assume was a local Philly TV show in this groovy fake graveyard. Did I imagine that or did it really happen!?!
@Wilthomer66 Would love to know where to find that clip from Philly TV....The Song Dead Mans Stroll was later changed to Midnight Stroll after Dick Clark picked it up and needed to tame it down...Changed to Midnight Stroll....Later on some of the groups they represented nearly broke the company because of the expensive production value they added to each of the songs....That was the end of Norgolde Records.....
Sorry about that....Your post indicated your name was Ernie... I guess it's Roland, Yes? So sorry and appologies for any misidentified names....Your post still holds true for all those that remembered my father fondly....Thanks again.
Thanks for doing this Ernie....My dad was Hal Norton of Norgolde Records and he would appreciated this video you did of their one hit wonder....They had some more success with Fu Man Chu but this was the song that put them on the map....Thanks for bringing back memories and keeping my dad's record label alive....James Ford Nussbaum
@jamesnussbaum : I've always liked the fact that, in the mid 1950's thru the early 1960's, there were several independent record labels and or subsidiary labels. I'm guessing here but, "Norgolde" was a combination of your dad's last name ,Norton, and a business partners last name ? I'm sure that your father must have told you a few stories about the recording sessions and the talent that was recorded in his studios. My respect to your father and thanks for commenting. ~ Roland B.
@MrRJDB1969 Thanks for keeping alive the songs and memories....Norgolde lives on in the record books....Some of the overly produced music of the Norgolde Era would later be the demise of the label...Spending too much on production without concentrating on the music....An end to many labels....Midnight Stoll was a very expensively produced album for the time....High production value....It did the best for the label though.....
