  • SERIOUSLY WHO IS THTE GUY PLAYING THE HARP! i gotta know..

  • N-I-C-E!!!!

  • I saw Leon a week ago today in Pensacola, Florida. He still made my knees go weak and he totally rocked the house. Leon IS the music and long after we are all gone, his haunting melodies, beautiful lyrics and a voice like no one else, will be echoing through the universe --

I know I'll still be listening.

  • @leosagcap5910 Tell it.

  • Le·on Rus·sell (Noun)

    -Pronunciation : Lee-on Russ-Ull

-Definition: Baddest motherfucker to ever walk the earth.

-Synonyms: Master of Space and time, God

  • What a FABULOUS combination of talent. Leon Russell, Willie Nelson, Maria Muldaur and Bobbie Raitt . . . four of the most talented people of their era.

  • that's a Bob Dylan song right? blessings

  • This sounds like Big Bill Broozy's Key to the Highway.A lot.

  • @oleole52 yup same song different words

  • @Matt24ishere Just wondering.Does Big Bill's estate get a piece of this?He wrote it in the late '40's,so it's probably not public domain yet.

Rap and techno constantly lift beats, riffs, and choruses, probably because of a lack of original musical talent. But a whole song?Hope Big Bill's family gets paid.

  • Holy shit.

  • LOVE Leon!

  • umptiousy scrumptiously done

  • Leon!!!

  • THIS is MUSIC! No one is doing this kind of real music anymore...

  • Does it get any better than this? Thanks for posting.

  • Mmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

  • Riight. Right on. Leon. What is all this gumbamming and jawjackin about what he look like, at any time? You're not listening! Man is totally in charge, all thru his career. Get with it! Thass all f'now.

  • I'm just grateful to hear Leon, Maria, Bonnie & Willie at one time! Let's not quibble about production values! Thank you, poster.

  • Fantastic.

  • LOVE THIS!

  • I saw him last night in Pittsburgh and he still gets the crowd hopping!

  • One boogie woogie Tulsa boy

  • Fantastic. Cheers from New Zealand. Elizabeth5830.

  • Leon is an older gentleman now...saw him in NYC awhile ago and he's not sending shivers down girl's spines these days. He walks with a walker and has a chronic illness which he talks about onstage.

Time waits for no man! Not even Leon Russell.

  • @theodorodepangrazia I've seen Leon a few times in the past few years and I have to say it does not matter to me how old he is. His voice and attitude is still Leon. Flashes of the "old" Leon come through with his expressions, his banter with the crowd and just his being The Master of Space and Time makes him one of the cool to the bone people alive.

  • @judecreek2 You tell em! Leon is the essence of cool, I don't care how old he is, he is like a fine wine, he just gets better with age. The fact that he is 68 and still tours extensively, with his health problems, is a testament to the fact that his mind and soul are harmony and he is still the master of time and space. And yes he still sends a shiver down my spine! I saw him in November in Philly for the very first time, I was tingling all over!

  • @youngconstance221 Tell it sisters. Get him to me. No offense to his wife. He's just all that.

  • @theodorodepangrazia WAIT!!!!!!!!!! Leon DOES STILL send shivers down spines! Reckon ya need to go to some shows...

  • @herbie527

Leon's not spine-tingling was noted by me when I attended a Leon Russell show last year at BB King's Bar in NYC. When analyzing an older artist who can't operate in the same way anymore, it's fair to recognize truth from fiction. Russell himself comments on his frailty, diseases and age on-stage. Russell himself would have criticized such a performance from someone else I'm sure, and an artist of his caliber should retire at this point.

  • @theodorodepangrazia or keep playing till he drops. It's kinda up to him, isn't it?

  • @theodorodepangrazia bullshit. keep goin all you want Leon I will always pay homage.

  • @flight1100 Perfectly said!

  • @judecreek2 Thanks. Love your'e channel.

  • @flight1100 Right back at you!

  • @theodorodepangrazia Well 'sonny', acknowledging the realities of life is one thing - but there's a lot of road between not a spring chicken and retiring. In addition - Leon's audience is a lot more understanding than say - you.

  • I first watched this video last week. I IMMEDIATELY ordered a copy of the album. It is fantastic. It has 20 songs on it and costs only $6.99 from one of the usual suspects. BUY IT!

  • I have seen EVERY single person, that was on that stage, live and in person. I saw Maria Muldaur when she was singing backup for Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks. Mickey (probably spelled wrong) Rafael is one of the greatest harp players who ever lived. Great video.

  • Comment removed

  • anybody know the venue and year?

  • @TranscendentBeing This was in 1979 in Nashville while Leon and Willie were recording "One For The Road."

  • OMG this is great! I adore Leon Russell, he is so fine and plays piano incredibly. Yes, his eyes are almost too much, but when I watch him sing........ it's wonderful. This is truly a super vid. To have Maria M. Bonnie R. & Leon together is a winning combo.

  • Finally, I've been searching for this one, a Leon Russell without his sun glasses on, and more recent than the 1970's. I'd love to see him play in person.

  • blues jam

  • That is one hell of a line up of talent...

  • He's gorgeous

  • Superb! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • That's Mickey Raphael on the harmonica. Be still my heart.

  • I'm going to see Leon tonight at the Granada in Dallas. I love me some Leon Russell. Yes, I do.

  • Maria, Bonny......WOMEN ROCK!!!!!!

  • LEON IS THE KING

  • WOW, WHATTA THRILL - ALMOST LIKE BEING THERE. LOVE IT, LOVE THEM ! ! !

  • Holy crap....chills...love Leon, love Bonnie, and LOVE WILLIE!! Rockin....

  • Leon's eyes can send a shiver down a girl's spine. I know my spine is tingling!

  • @judecreek2 Better than an Obama speech, huh?!!

Actually, this tape is the first time I've ever seen Leon smile. I almost fainted.

  • @ConservativeAnthem Prepare the smelling salts.......type in "leon russell alcatraz". Be sitting down.

  • @judecreek2 it's his mouth I love connected to those eyes.

  • @Elin48 Oh, yeah, I know exactly what you mean. For more later Leon try his sessions with JJ Cale. My favorite is Corrine, Corrina". For that one you have to type in the search bar Leon Russel and JJ Cale "Corrine, Corrina". You will not be disappointed.

  • ummhumm!

  • @judecreek2 and his voice too, very sexy.

  • @judecreek2

    agreed,

Bonnie Raitt spinning off some slide and then hitchin' her guitar up against the underside of her boob has a somewhat similar effect on the boys

    but the eyes have it...

    lol

  • don"t get no better than this!

  • Wow!

  • We get kind of used to hearing music of this quality. But you gotta realize, this is the best of the best. Just try playing a little slide like Bonnie does here. It can't hardly be done unless you have lived it. Was that a kazoo riff I heard right at the end? Whoa good stuff! Leon is going to be in Seattle this summer. I'm goin.

  • @jojoguitar Kazoo? That might be Maria M. I recall here doing kazoos back in te jug band days, and on 'Mountain Stage' in the 1980s.

  • What a great combination of talent!

  • YumYum

  • OHH , this is a REAL treasure- gotta have this for my own.

  • four of my favorites!

  • grandes cantantes.

  • What a joy!!!! It gets no better, ever.

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • I'd like this video a lot more if the embedding wasn't disabled!

  • I love Leon - are there anymore videos of this show? These unrehearsed performances are the best!

  • GREAT band....! team work..:)

  • Excelente! 5*

    Parabéns!

  • That's very cool of you, Michael !

    Thanks!

  • Leon and Maria, pretty cool! Thanks for the find.

  • @rosesredvioletsblue many thanks for the share

    MOF

  • Thank you Roses.

    Great!

    Judyesther

  • Thanks Roses,

    Belle gang !

  • They are looking and performing like humans and they are all very good musicians. This kind of music is going to survive against all odds...

  • I think they look wonderful: exactly like human beings with heart and experience. If you want something that looks and sounds like a piece of plastic, go watch someone else.

  • This is great!!!

    Thank you for posting!!!

  • And oh yeah, this is the best version of this song I've heard so far, man. Beats Johnny Cash's, Janis Joplin's, Jerry Lee Lewis' and Nina Simone's versions right outta the fuckin' ballpark, dude!

  • Shit, is that Bonnie Raitt on electric guitar? Thought that was a dude! I have this fucker on DVD, Most Famous Hits: Willie Nelson & Leon Russell.

  • LOL - thought Bonnie was a "dude",

well, less competition for me at the party after the show!

  • he talks!

  • gorgeous song, great performance.

who cares about what any of them look like?

  • whats wrong with the way they look?

  • @ataaah Exactly. That's what's wrong with the music industry today. It's all about looks and stage presence. Talent is not mandatory anymore.

  • WTF does it matter what one looks like when you are putting tunes out like this ? Get a grip and just listen to the talent and STFU !!!!!

  • HOT!

  • Maria Muldaur..... fabulous.....

  • an awesome line-up!!!

  • I can't stand to look at Bonnie Raitt since she fired her old band years ago on her management's advice, because they made her look old. She then hired younger guys, so she would look younger. Lame.

  • Bull, Ricky Fataar is a friend of mine and has been with her for many years. I have known him since early 70's so he is not young, get your head out of your butt and look at the talent!

  • Ricky's a great drummer. Ask him what happened to the Tony Branuagle/ Hutch Hutchison/ Johnnie Lee Schell incarnation.

No need for vitriol, ginge. I am way deeper on the subject, I promise.

  • There's nothing like a LIVE jam session!!!

Studio mixing of seperately performed tracks overlapped after the fact just don't

have the "FEEL" that a LIVE performance

has, and it never will either!! This rocks!!!

  • Thank you so very much for this astounding clip!

  • I have listened to Bonnie since the 70's when I was just a young teen and damn she is just smoking! I love her and the rest of the mix is a bonus! this is so damn awesome! soulful.. She still rocks.. Saw her a few years ago in Atlantic City, smiling, happy and rocking on!!!

  • It's such a freaking shame Maria is so protective of her videos...I can't see she's doing herself any favors.

  • this is CLASS!

  • Couldn't agree more! We need more of these goodies over here in the UK.

  • I just nearly fell out of my chair when I look at Leons Eyes! OMG he is soooooooo freaking GORGEOUS!!!!

  • Killer!

  • Wow! What a soulful session!

  • wow

  • Thanx, they don't do that no more!!

  • So glad that I stumbled across this one. That was beyond fantastic. That IS what I call chemistry!

First class all the way. Thank you for this wonderful post.

  • That Maria Muldaur right off the bat was just perfect. So was the rest of it, thanks. :)

  • Ditto.

  • This is really awesome! Four of my favorite musicians all together. I'll be favoriting this one. Thanks!
