I always respected the character of Graeme Smith, but this really took it up a notch. Brave lad.
I am inclined to think many, many players would have shirked their responsibility. Definitely something Aussies and Saffas have in common.. bit of guts.
This was awesome, great match, great courage, and great respect from both sides. Ricky Ponting and Graeme Smith at the end is one of my favourite images from cricket.
he changed a lot of people's minds when he walked down the race.truth is,no wimp ever played Test Cricket.i'ts a tough, tough game and I respect anyone who can play test match cricket.
@nphanlon1973 He won my respect in a big, big way in this series.
There was another moment where he took a catch in the slips down very low, but wasn't sure whether it had carried. Rather than appeal loudly he quietly and politely asked the umpire to check it. The ball had carried and the batsman was given out. Contrast it to how some teams would have carried on in the situation and it was magnificently handled.

Credit to Ntini too, he stayed in all day when the odds were against them in the morning. For a man with an average of less then 10 he did very well.
Even though I'm an Aussie the South African cricket team won my heart & respect that day.
