Yea I saw the news story saying that atleast the firefighter was suspended. Thats bullshit! All he did was nod, I thought it was respectful, Im sure the Obama's didnt mind that he nodded. i was in one of the many army bands in the US for 8 years and I have done hundreds of parades just like this as a member of the band...our drum major ALWAYS did some sort of fancy salute or greeting at the review stand or guest of honor. I would have been insulted if he DIDNT jesture to Obama. The drum major needs a major apology from his superiors.
Give us a break - this is so overblown. The guy is NOT military , but a member of the great Firefighters fraternity, He had a very minor lapse - get over it. If he had given Obama an index finger salute - that would be different. This guy served with honor in the Marine Corp - he knows the difference between military protocol and being in a Firefighter band - love the idiots claiming he would do the same on the battlefield - obviously they never served in the Service for sure.
Its a bit harsh to suspend the guy six months. Yes, he broke decorum, which is unprofessional, but cmon, he was just caught up in the moment and happy to see our new president. Give him a break.

These "rules" are there for a reason. you all act like they change from situation to situation and that the lower eschelon gets to decide when rules apply or dont. Try waving or saluting to a superior officer under enemy fire and see what your superiors would do to you. That is if your friendly greeting doesnt get them killed.

The "Pipe Leader" even says that he violated proper decorum in a military procedure. His Commander-in-Chief smiled and waved at him. What the hell was he supposed to do, ignore his "Commander-in-Chief" during a "military excersise"?
This guy should be re-instated and given a public apology!
The proper decorum would be to look forward, as the President was on the left, and provide a proper salute. After 17 years as Drum Major, he should have know better, but a 6 month suspension is no way to be treated. If you look at all of the video of the band they look great! They march well and all of the lines are straight. That is a tribute to the members of the band but it is also a reflection of work that the Drum Major has done with the band over his 17 year tenure.
So what is "proper decorum"? Would slighting the acknowledgment of the band by the president with ignoring the president's gesture be proper decorum? The entire band should have acknowledged the president. That would have been proper decorum.
Mike Engles, the "band leader" should step down and someone with "proper decorum" take his place.

This is a firefighter....one of the nations best, he was completely professional in my opinion. The guy should have never been suspended and if I was a fire chief, I would be glad to have him on my department. He did not get to the position of leading that group by years of sitting on his butt. How can the drop in rating come from those who voted for Obama? Obama won by a popular vote of 53% to 46%. That means, now pay attention now, that the approval rating must drop below 53% before you can make the argument that people who voted for him are realizing their mistake. A 68% approval rating signifies that approximately 15% of the people who DIDN'T vote for him still give him a positive approval rating. p.s. Take an aspirin, it helps for folks like you who are now having to think.

The proper decorum would be to look forward, as the President was on the left, and provide a proper salute. After 17 years as Drum Major, he should have know better, but a 6 month suspension is no way to be treated. If you look at all of the video of the band they look great! They march well and all of the lines are straight. That is a tribute to the members of the band but it is also a reflection of work that the Drum Major has done with the band over his 17 year tenure.

This is a firefighter....one of the nations best, he was completely professional in my opinion. The guy should have never been suspended and if I was a fire chief, I would be glad to have him on my department. He did not get to the position of leading that group by years of sitting on his butt. How can the drop in rating come from those who voted for Obama? Obama won by a popular vote of 53% to 46%. That means, now pay attention now, that the approval rating must drop below 53% before you can make the argument that people who voted for him are realizing their mistake. A 68% approval rating signifies that approximately 15% of the people who DIDN'T vote for him still give him a positive approval rating. p.s. Take an aspirin, it helps for folks like you who are now having to think.

Mas aqui o buraco eh mais embaixo. Diferente do Brasil, aqui as instituicoes sao respeitadas. Ainda mais agora em comeco de mandato. Eu nao esperaria nenhuma "carteirada" do Obama. Nao que ele seja santinho. Mas ele sabe que nao eh nada bom dar motivo de graca pros criticos.

O cara não estava tocando nenhum instrumento, não atrapalhou em nada o desfile, e outra pq a suspenção veio só agora, o dito maestro só viu isso pela imprensa e quer dar uma de fodão, uma advert^ncia ou suspenção mesmo? tudo bem, mas 6 meses????babaquice.
