My disappointment wasn't in his style, actually, but with how seriously he took it.
I think men's style can be adventurous. How about the beer hat? Hunter's vests. They're ORANGE. Multi-colored track shoes....
Subtle can be ok, but it's not for everyone. And it's boring...for everyone.
Just remember: Flourescent Aqua-Marine pilled cotton BL:AZER!! woo hoo! Oh & make sure a dead guy wore it before you did!
