@MeredithBixby It's a 2007 BBC documentary called, "Hotel California: From The Byrds To The Eagles." Unfortunately, I don't think it's commercially available, but it never hurts to search the Googles.
@adioslounge GOOD NEWS!! It is indeed on YouTube, all 7 parts, under the title, "From the Birds to the Eagles"!!! Thanks for letting us know about it.
Peter Asher was right. Linda Ronstadt was the glue that held the Country Rock movement together until Eagles cemented it. Hand Sown Home Grown is considered the first alt country album by a female. She was a trailblazer and hot as hell.
Gram Parsons was drunk when he disparaged the Eagles and he admitted he was jealous. calling a band the 'worst iconic american band of all time' is pretty much the definition of how Frank Zappa defined rock journalism "writers who can't write writing for readers who can't read."
Lowell was tossed from the Mother's after he wrote Willin because it was such a good song... Linda helped Lowell financially by recording his tunes (they were lovers)... Warford's solo is great on that tune.
@rrphelps come on man gram was far from jealous of the eagles.Gram was doing the eagles sound way before the eagles cut their first album.top of that gram was a true southerner from Dixie. His country was the real deal. I like the eagles but like dwight yokam, emmylou harris, marty stuart all have said gram was and is the starting point for country rock. the eagles and their califorina rock just dont cut it as country. its good for what it is but its not country just cause it has a banjo n it
@rrphelps get real. anyone who knows anything about gram parsons knows he would have never admitted being jealous to anyone. Even if he may have been. get in the real world and stop making shit up.
The reason they never gave Linda credit because she only did remakes even though she a great singer. Meanwhile The Eagles, The Byrds, Fleetwood Mac wrote their own tunes.
Respectfully, I have to disagree. Her version of Warren's classic "Poor Poor Pitiful me" seems a little watered down compared to the original. Just my opinion. Still ..... great voice though.
