  • I found "Die Säge des Todes"(Bloody Moon) to be strangely intriguing.

  • @lampyman101 how about having some sort of background music when you give commentaries? it'll be less boring for the listener. :)

  • @dgg094 I'm sorry it's boring without music but I get more complaints if I do have music and more chance of being DMCA'd. I've tried it on a few occasions (including the finale) and it adds an awful lot of work in terms of finding music etc and editing to fit it. In short its too much work, extra risk and not well received for the most part

  • I use to hate Franco Films but then i watched a documentary on him and It brought all his films into perspective where he himself explains his love for the extreme and the fact it all comes out of the incoherent thoughts of his head and that all his films seem like a day dream. In Most cases in daydreams there is very little consistency in one straight forward plot.

  • That main theme that kept playing every two seconds in the movie reminds me of the Cannibal Holocaust theme.

  • This movie looks really good. It makes me think of the burning. ANy relation between the two?

  • i thought this was a pile of shit, but then i hate most Franco flicks.

  • Isn't the directors name not Jesus Franco? Or is Jess just like a nickname? Hmph. Maybe so. I wouldn't want the guy upstairs associated with "Erotikill". Oh, and this pile of shite, of course.

  • @MrDonkeydong155 Jesus is his actual name yes. It's quite a common name in Spanish speaking countries (though it's pronounced 'hey zeus) much like Mohamed is in Islamic countries. He very often just goes by Jess Franco, in English speaking countries at least, I guess for the exact reason you've just highlighted.

  • Whats is the name of the movie thats like faces of death?

  • Good review - I have yet to see this - it's on my list of to see one day.

Jess is a funny bird - I remember the days of not knowing much about him or his output and then seeing things such as Vampyros Lesbos!!! Well this fucker is not much on substance I thought. Course It's not really what he is about at all. I keep meaning to see more of his movies - my viewing of Lesbos was 20yrs ago or so. This could be a good one to do.

  • I've seen pornos with better narrative and pacing than this. And less annoying music.

  • @BloodylocksBathory and bigger...mustaches. ;0)

  • @lampyman101 Well yeah if you're referring to that era. :P

  • What the fuck ? at 8:10 the guy has a jean jacket then at 8:12 he has a white suit then again at 8:16 he has a jean jacket !!!

  • @PlanetariumVagatio That's a different guy not a continuity error. It's probably not that clear from my editing of the clip though so don't feel bad

  • Ha ha, I'm so looking orward to watch my Severin-DVD of this "masterpiece"!

Actually I'm kind of a Jess Franco fan. "Vampyros Lebos" and "Eugenie" are among my favorite exploitation films.

The dialogue is hilarious, man! Excellent review, Glenn!

  • @LiveFastDiarrhea Theres a great featurette on the severin dvd with franco talking about what the studio wanted him to do with this film and what they promised him. Pink Floyd for the soundtrack, lol, never happened. HAHA. I love this movie.

  • Oh yes, Franco. So much talent and so many bad movies. This guy is an enigma.

  • By "prolific" you mean "churns out shite films by the bus load"?

  • @DarkAngel182 LMAO! Spot on, Simon!

  • God I can't stand Jess Franco films. I almost always fall asleep.

  • I'm gonna have to give this movie a watch. "I'll try anything,as long as I make back to the culb on time" lol

  • I remeber renting this movie...it is one of the worst slasher/gialo's I've ever seen.

I realy do not get the praise jess Franco gets for his horror/thriller movies as every movie has that extremly bad 70s porn styled acting.

On another note...have you read "The original videos nasties" published by The Darkside?

Note nmr 2...will you do review of Nightmare in a damaged brain?

Again a very good review and I'm glad you won't be shakking any babies...lol

  • @Samplelord LOL thanks. I think with the likes of Jess Franco the interest comes from the character of the films rather than how practically good they are. Like with Bruno Mattei (see the cinema snobs Bruno Mattei show) there's something about them that gets into some peoples heads for whatever reason.

I will be doing a review of Nightmare IADB sometime soon. I haven't read that Darkside book. I should look it up.

  • @lampyman101

It is a nice book too have, 4 short essays on the Nastie hype, reviews of all Nastiesthat were/are on Scotland Yards list and scans of all original vhs covers.

By no means a very in depht book but worth seeking out.

Yeah good ol Bruno...don't get that whole song and dance either...

  • @lampyman101 Thing about Bruno Mattei is you know what you are getting with his films. Low budget rip offs of Hollywood classics. A lot of them are entertaining and enjoyable, Jess Franco's films are just boring and confusing as hell. Like Vampyros Lesbos, god what an awful film. The only decent film he had was The Awful Doctor Orloff.

  • @TheForgottenFlesh Although Orloff is just a rip off of Eyes Without A Face (Which I think you should review by the way)

  • @lampyman101 Oh, so you're a Snobber too..., the world is not so big after all. Nice! Franco did it very rarely but he was capable of making decent movies. Especially in his first 15-20 years as a director. But later he maybe became a little too interested in playing around with the cast himself than in making a real movie I guess. But what do I know.

  • lol meet my boyfriend he's great in bed lol WTF

  • Nice Glenn. Do you think it's possible it was on the 'video nasty' list on the account of it being poorly written and performed ?? Jesus Jess Franco's best film without a doubt is 'Venus In Furs'. If you haven't seen it, watch it ! It's a surprisingly good film and really watchable in it's own way.

  • Threads......that and the fact that my right on radical feminist C.N.D. mother made me watched it when I was seven........Show me on the doll where they nuked you!

    Still gives me nightmares.

Thank's for that Glen, id buy you a pint if i could, but Ta will have to do.

Please, please, please do your living dead trilogy review soon. Day of the Dead is a truly amazing film.

  • @tommytoploader Have you watched when the wind blows? Thats proababley even more depressing.

  • Cheers for that.

1: You should try to see the Keep it has a very interesting subtext on the nature of facist methadology that i think you would find very interesting.

2: Chainsaw 2 is very very silly and i like silly things.

3: Threads is an amazing work, even if the social set up is dated, it has not lost it's power to shock. Even more so because i grew up in Sheffield and i get to see some of the houses where i live blown up!

  • Nice one.. Jess Franco has a style for sure... The dialogue examples are all gems.. well pointed out... lol ... Great stuff as always.. :)

  • Oh and i know you must get a lot of requests for Reviews but for the record...here's Three films i would really like to hear your thoughts on.

    1: The Keep {1983}

    2: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 { 1986}

    3: Threads {1985 BBC film about nuclear war and my choice for ultimate horror film!}

  • Well you are right a scoring system out of ten doesn't seem to make sense in terms of an overall review,but.....awww I liked the Zombie fingers!

Still thank you for all your hard work. The reviews are exellent, informative, intelligent and entertaining. They clearly a labour of love and I just want to say thank you for all the time and effort you put into your reviews. They have provided me with hours of quality entertainment and much to ponder on.

    keep it up!

  • @tommytoploader I liked the fingers too, it wasn't an easy decision but hey.

as for the reviews i'll give my quick thoughts here...

    The Keep...not seen it

Texas Chainsaw 2...Tis a silly film

Threads...probably the most terrifying and depressing thing I've ever seen, very well done despite the 'made for TV' feel. I actually can't believe it was made for TV it was that disturbing.

  • Exellent work, anouther great review. Two in one week, you are spoiling us!

    Where's the Zombie fingers though?

  • @tommytoploader I stopped doing them a while back. The whole ratings system seems so flawed it didn't seem to make sense.

  • You want talk about bad acting you should review his two cannibal films he did with Al Cliver.
