@KB24D: you saw a lot of these moves almost every game even back then. These aren't really Clyde Drexler's top ten moves. I've seen dozens of more impressive highlights from Clyde over the years, but they simply never made it onto Youtube for some reason. Athletes have better training and performance enchancers today, but they aren't evolving in the biogical, natural selection sense.

The only big difference is many players in the 50-60 and 70 some of them had real jobs outside basketball which would change there overall performance. ALso the mass amounts of money thrown at these guys now for instance barkely only made 44million as a nba player and clyde 31mill. Scrub players today make more then that so obviously certain things have changed but in no way shape or form does new athletic training amake a nba player better.

Just a few years ago they had a problem cause the demeanded reggie evens to take a test at halftime. Also no player has been like lebron ever. He weighs 250 and is 6"8. Just look up last year manu blocks durant. This was in the 4rth quarter and the next play manu hits a 3. Just this year he made the game winning shot and defensive play against melo. He has all the tools and abiltitys which some of the people you named dont have.

The celtics of the 60's literally had a top 5 player at each postion. @AdreasTheGreat also i saw west and havlicheck play since my au coach shoved these older basketball styles on us in practice and the only reason i put west in my top 5 is because he scored at will against his opponents but in no way shape or form would he do that to todays nba players. @AdreasTheGreat also im sorry, i agree prime t-mac is overall better then prime manu but manu has the ability to do more things. Hes a better support player then t-mac. Mcgrady isnt as aggresive defensively or offensively. He loved his jump shot which is why the team became more dominant defensively after he left houston. @AdreasTheGreat i had a summer league coach show us clips of west and petrovic and say this is how you should play, with they way tehy shot and came off screens. A big thing i notice from back in those times is the size and speed of the bigger players. They look slower and less athletic and they are. Dirk shot amazing against every single pf hes played against in a time where length,speed and athletiscm are huge parts. Theres a different level of competition from 87 till now.

For lebrons game hasnt changed a bit its just now hes asked to due different things, the mavs dont give the ball to dirk all the time. Sometimes hes used as a decoy. Clyde and MJ were different types of players. MJ's game was more like Kobe Bryant's: athletic but fundamentally sound.
Clyde's game was more like Scottie Pippen's or Lebron James's: unbelievable athleticism; great ability to get easy baskets, especially in the open court; great passing ability, and unorthdox technique.
Clyde was very similar to Pippen, only Scottie was better defensively and Clyde better offensively.

@KB24D: you saw a lot of these moves almost every game even back then. These aren't really Clyde Drexler's top ten moves. I've seen dozens of more impressive highlights from Clyde over the years, but they simply never made it onto Youtube for some reason. Athletes have better training and performance enchancers today, but they aren't evolving in the biogical, natural selection sense.

Ellis in my opionion is actually a little bit better then ai. AI didnt play defense and never made anyone better and to top it off the 76ers got to the nba finals becuase of defense and rebounding. Ai was fortunate to play with a gm and coach willing to surround him with blue collar players.

The only big difference is many players in the 50-60 and 70 some of them had real jobs outside basketball which would change there overall performance. ALso the mass amounts of money thrown at these guys now for instance barkely only made 44million as a nba player and clyde 31mill. Scrub players today make more then that so obviously certain things have changed but in no way shape or form does new athletic training amake a nba player better.

@AdreasTheGreat yuour comments are redicolous. 1 no player can take steroids in the nba since they do random testing. Just a few years ago they had a problem cause the demeanded reggie evens to take a test at halftime. Also no player has been like lebron ever. He weighs 250 and is 6"8. Even in todays game there is very few guys in that range of weight. So obviously he isnt using steroids so stop that its embarressing.

if i had to rate top 5 sg id go 1-mj 2-clyde 3-miller 4-west and 5-kobe then 6 or 7 manu. There isnt to many players to have played the game that have the effect he does on both ends of the game. Just look up last year manu blocks durant. This was in the 4rth quarter and the next play manu hits a 3. Just this year he made the game winning shot and defensive play against melo. He has all the tools and abiltitys which some of the people you named dont have.

The celtics of the 60's literally had a top 5 player at each postion. The spurs team wasnt dynamic team of all-stars. kobe the best player shaq the best big yet tim and amnu dominated for about 5 years. @AdreasTheGreat t-mac had t-many injuries,wade is moving up the list but that isnt done yet. Also you say dirk is average at everyhting else but scoring? How do you lead the nba finals in rebounds against shaq average? 1 of only 4 players to ever average 25-10 in the playoffs and has just as good of defensive numbers as kg in the playoffs. I'd say hes a little bit better then average, back to your athletci training and what not. It still comes down to hard work. Nothing has changed.

@AdreasTheGreat also i saw west and havlicheck play since my au coach shoved these older basketball styles on us in practice and the only reason i put west in my top 5 is because he scored at will against his opponents but in no way shape or form would he do that to todays nba players. Thee are guys you can take from the 70's and 80s and put them in right now and they still have the same effect but no way was he good enough to play the elites of today.

@AdreasTheGreat also im sorry, i agree prime t-mac is overall better then prime manu but manu has the ability to do more things. Hes a better support player then t-mac. Mcgrady isnt as aggresive defensively or offensively. He loved his jump shot which is why the team became more dominant defensively after he left houston. Forcing the game threw yao made the rockets overall better rather then more talented. Manu has the abilty to be the number 1 or 2 guy. the man or right hand man, thats big.

That theres a reason why these other people are so gifted yet the others no matter how hard they try or train they can not change who they are. No, erving,gervin and so many others would be any better today for the simple fact that it doesnt change the game. Bird wasnt a spectical physically, durant is the same way. @AdreasTheGreat basketball is the 1 sport where all this science technology cant make better. So many guys can play in the league bcause of basic knowledge of the game. I have a better vertical then kevin durant and he cant even bench 185. How has the future now helped him? Dirk hasnt put on any muscle he grew into his body, lebron was this size coming out of high school. Jordan,clyde,wilkens, they had the natural ablities. Most of them being american and manu lead a decent team of guys to beat team usa with tim duncan on it. Lastly the worst officaited series of all time is the miami vs dallas series then the spurs-suns semi finals series. Its after those 2 series that the nba found out about tim donahuy. I mean go look back and see game 5 heat-mavs wade had more foul shots then the enitre mavs team. Blake griifin and amare get these comparisons all the time. They dont fly like kemp did, griffin is great but he his different. All the players are different. @AdreasTheGreat i had a summer league coach show us clips of west and petrovic and say this is how you should play, with they way tehy shot and came off screens. A big thing i notice from back in those times is the size and speed of the bigger players. They look slower and less athletic and they are. Dirk shot amazing against every single pf hes played against in a time where length,speed and athletiscm are huge parts. Theres a different level of competition from 87 till now.

For lebrons game hasnt changed a bit its just now hes asked to due different things, the mavs dont give the ball to dirk all the time. Sometimes hes used as a decoy. @AdreasTheGreat also bird having better players around him only made him better in the playoffs, you watch dampier play lately? Against golden state he had a break away layup, he tried to dunk it and got stuffed by the rim. He was so by himself that after he missed the dunk he got his own rebound and got blocked by a guard. This was dirks starting center for how many years? Last year vs the spurs, they literaly tripled teamed in in a man-zone defense.

I lose respect for those who cant see the talent around the player, akeem lead a team to the nba finals in his 2nd year. He lead a team where he was literally named the only all-star to a championship. The celtics had bird,mchale,parish,johnson,ainge and walton all players who had success elsewhere ion the league. Pippen,kerr,grant,rodman,harper all had success before or after jordan. Question where kenny smith go? Where porter and duckowrth go? Quit being a ring nutthugger.

When jordan had pippen- some of the best 3pt shotting guards in paxson and kerr-dennis rodman in his prime,grant in his prime,armstrong in his prime to young players in horry,cassel, and elie? Also thorpe ave 14pts a game when he was with houston and he was probably there 2nd option scoring. Seriously has it gotten to that? Everyone in the nba has talent but there is differnent levels. i just want to add another note, seriously these are the best 10 drexler plays in the nba? I once saw him steal the ball run down the floor take off from the free throw line and magic and worthy just ran by once he went in the air. It was amazing

Clyde and MJ were different types of players. MJ's game was more like Kobe Bryant's: athletic but fundamentally sound.
Clyde's game was more like Scottie Pippen's or Lebron James's: unbelievable athleticism; great ability to get easy baskets, especially in the open court; great passing ability, and unorthdox technique.
Clyde was very similar to Pippen, only Scottie was better defensively and Clyde better offensively.
Lebron is like Clyde on steroids.
