I wonder.... How come..... I mean.... This guy wrote The Night They Drowe Old Dixie Down and The Weight....and a lot of others... and now this?? What happend? Sucks, if you ask me!
Lange erwartet , bin von der CD begeistert, auch von einem stimmungsvollen Eric Clapton. Die beigefügten Demo Versionen gefallen mir sogar noch besser.
Good and powerful! Robertson can still play, haven't aged much...is that his real band? ...I agree there will never be a B A N D but how about a reunion? Is that possible???
i can respect that... i like the song but not the guitar solo....i noticed he has 2 other guitar players that do the song justice ...i think he should get in some more practice time or let the other tele players cover the solo...sometimes playing guitar all these years tends to make me more critical than most...hehe
I have been a fan of Robbie Robertson from his days in the Hawks and i have played guitar aprox. 50 years....this is the worst song i have heard in a long time...bad guitar playing and a terrible solo...this is not music......time to quit Robbie...go do something else
@Rico2020 ya know I have to crack up at some of the commentary on my video...even after 44,000 views, still can't except that artists change up styles & do different stuff after decades of doing something else...personally I love this song but then again I wasn't a big fan of his old tunes:) just a difference of opinion I guess?
The Justin Bieber influence stands out. It's no secret that Robbie idolizes his fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, who's reached unheard of heights at a young age. At a time when we thought good rock music might be a thing of the past, along comes Biebe, & influences not only a new generation, but inspires old rockers like Robbie Robertson to shine again.
The magic of The Band was the collaboration of five extraordinary men. Garth, Levon, Richard and Rick (RIP those two) and Robbie. Plus the grindstone work-ethic of Ronnie Hawkins - that gave The Band a solid platform, like the Beatles in Hamburg, working their ----- off before shining in the UK. No doubt Robbie is talented as heck, but there will never be another B A N D.
What? When did Robbie Robertson join Dawes? Robbie's still got it too bad Dave's still pushing Paul to the limits. How many different comb overs can one man have?
@Ingy007 i actually like it not the strongest live performance, the life he has lived has caught him up but the studio produced is really good, it iss till there but like all iconic singers we all have favourite periods of them so it sometimes take convincing when it is a little different. He could maybe skip his guitar solo
@Ingy007 wow he has done so much since then check out his 80's stuff absolutely brilliant and his movies scores are well worth mentioning or did you have a wee nap between the 70's and now?
The muse has left Robbie Robertson and it doesn't look like he will ever get it back. Maybe he and Marty snorted the muse out but its well and gone. Look at the lyrics on Dixie, Cripple Creek, The Weight or Rocking Chair and compare any one of those to any lyrics he wrote since the band broke up and tell me it stacks up. I'm sorry but the muse comes and goes. Ask Bob Dylan even. Sometimes it stays as in Elvis Costello but other times...
Robbie is still doing it..Good for him. Great songwriter and legendary guitarist. I just hope he and Levon Helm get some peace before it is too late..
@thombombb ...it took me moment to realize what you were referring to....your right of coarse & I corrected my error in the description! Certainly the Goldsmith Brothers are there playing with him! Opppps....thx for pointing that out!
@gothmamafreedom ...yea...Robbie been around for 40 years now...his latest album is a collaboration with Eric Clapton, & it is fresh new sound for him...although not all agree.
I've been saying for awhile that Dawes are the closest thing to the band out there today. They were up at big pink in the fall (i visited a week later). The song is ok but I'm not going to hate on Robbie, he's 40 years past his songwriting peak...what do you expect? Always one of my favorite guitarist but not one of my favorite personalities.
@vh84dlr ...you do realize that his new album "How To Become Clairvoyant" is a collaboration with Eric Clapton & that Clapton, Steve Winwood, Trent Reznor & Tom Morello play on it...This song is from that album....and how do you ever become 40 years past your peak...I don' t get that??
@MrTreknation yes I realize that. I was just saying it was cool to see Dawes backing him live, and that it makes sense because I know they are big fans of the The Band. I was trying have Robbie's back for people saying the song is bad. I like the song and like that Robbie is still at it, but I still think he wrote his best stuff @ 40 years ago.
@MrTreknation quite easy ..writing uninspired "blues by numbers" stuff like this ..its not crap but its hardly groundbreaking,,,at least neil young gives up something with a bit of grunt and originality...i just dont know these guys like robbie and clapton and dylan bother any more ...
@mugwamp4 .....Well...before I reply to comments....I always do my homework, and I looked @ your channel. You apparently make a living writing Nasty, Uninformed & Unintelligent comments all over the Tube...Now I'm not going to go after your Aussie roots, especially since my best friend on YouTube is an Australian! So perhaps you can do the Tube a favor and get yourself some psychiatric help with your problem....When people see these kinds of comments...They know U don't HAVE A F*CKING CLUE!
@MrTreknation gee i wish i could make a living writing nasty comments (which i dont) i suppose you're refering to replies i make to moron conspiracy theorists ,, ufo nuts ,, and fundamentalist ratbags who deserve them...now if it upsets you that some people might have a contrary opinion to fawning automaton fans who lack any objectivity when it comes to their little pin-up idols...i'm so sorry ,,,i'm a huge fan of the Band..Dylan Clapton ,,Winwood ,,I just think this is an average song.
@mugwamp4 ..Eh bien .... tu te sens mieux maintenant que tu viens de prouver mon point ..... vous avez vraiment besoin pour obtenir prise sur la réalité ... @MrTreknation oh shit ,,oh bother,,, i didnt realize i was dealing with such a superior intellect ,,,hell you've got an old French reader in the basement, and you play drums!!!shit ,,a Nobel prize must be just around the corner,,so far you've sent 2 rambling incoherent replies to my comments ...which i thought were quite temperate...and so bereft of rational argument or sensible dialogue you had to resort to some pretentious foreign gobbledegook. i .thought French was banned in U>S after Iraq
@mugwamp4 .....you keep missing the whole point mate....my rational argument all along is we all are entitled to our personal opinions...I just don't get your motivation to go out of your way to be so Damn Negative about yours....why bother even commenting @ all on something you don't like or appreciate...Let me guess why?....Perhaps that is the only way you can get any satisfaction from your own existence...Knock yourself out dude...I'm just waiting for an excused to block you anyway!!
@MrTreknation entitled to an opinion! !!..well that was all i was doing,,,simply stating an opinion that this was hardly one of robbie's classics,, its not being negative, its being objective ,,anyway have a wonderful day ,,bye
@MrJcampsall ....Thx for that...I have no idea what gram4neil's problem is but I assume he just venting to hear himself talk??....with over 4,200 views & only 2 thumbs down, I would say most people liked the performance?
@ifeelnopressure the band, Dawes, really nailed it. but I agree, Robbie is sounding pretty weak vocally. and he just can't seem to handle the guitar like he used to. Dawes, on the other hand, makes him sound pretty awesome
@guitarchitectural I'm not putting Dawes down, they're really good. But I can hear the Band playing the song in my head, and man, there's Helm's Texas voice, Manuel's high-pitched backing and saloon piano, Hudson's red hot organ swirling, Danko's fretless bass playing round lines, and of course, Robertson harmonizing and focusing on bringing up a helluva solo, at the same time subtle and menacing.
But Robertson & Dawes deliver, I give you that, a treat of a performance.
@aussiechic402 ....you know I didn't notice him until you mentioned it...I do know that Eric Clapton collaborated with Robbie on 3 of the songs from Clairvoyant & Tom Morello , Steve Winwood play on it...Sweet!!!
@tiemyshoes92 There is an interview with Robbie thats not long been posted and he's speaking about when he used to be house mates with Martin Scorcese (director) and they were bad boys at that time playing hard.. that's what he's singing about.. great song..love it..Robbie rocks.. :-)
