Hahaha awesome! I watched this video a month ago, and hated it. Then I watched a bunch of the 7th Doctor DVDs for the first time, and now I love this. Therefore this music must be an acquired taste!
I would like to build a special detention camp on Brownsea Island for all the Murray Gold fanboys, where they would get blasted by Keff McCulloch music for 19 hours a day.
I dont understand the desire by so many so called DW "fans" to criticise all the time. The series is disparate and varied but I can see the good in most of it - Keff McCulloch's theme tune is pretty good and is very much of that late 80's computer and synth obsessed era and he's merely putting into DW incidental music what was going on at the time in music generally.
In the real world, of course, it'd be mixed properly. And probably played by an orchestra instead of one and a half MIDI synthesizers. Otherwise it actually works really well. I've often thought someone should do Keff's arrangment of the theme tune for orchestra, because he actually approached it quite innovatively.
@Applemask Remember though, for the decade it was all about synthesizers, drum machines, samplers and the wonder that is MIDI. But I agree with you on doing an orchestral version of Keff's theme!
I like the music but it just doesn't work with the new series. It needs epic orchestral music. For example, I love this version of the theme tune but it just doesn't fit the modern, fast-paced CGI opening titles.
@Wodanaz Murray Gold's music is amazing and can create any emotion perfectly. Just listen to All the Strange, Strange Creatures, Martha vs. the Master, the music (don't know its name) played when the Master saves the Doctor by attacking Rassilon in the End of Time, The Tenth Doctor's regeneration music. It's all so amazing and epic and beautiful.
@CaptainAndyman Sorry, I disagree Cap'n. Murray Gold's music is horrid. It is too ''slick'', faux-''epic' Tim Burton-esque rubbish. I mean, listen to the main theme with the added ''da-da-da-dada-da''s in it. So unatmospheric and comical...
@Wodanaz Sorry, but I love Murray's music. It's so brilliantly completely epic and has the ability to invoke whatever emotion the particular piece is illustrating. The 2005-2009 themes were amazing, upbeat and epic!
@CaptainAndyman You have a right to hold those believes. I myself see no place for orchestral music in Doctor Who, atleast not in the main theme, as much as I love orchestral music. Still, I find Murray Gold's music to be clumsy and goofy, not what I would personally call epic or good orchestral.
Oh I don't know, the bit leading up to the regeneration sounds quite nice, lifting elements from the theme tune in the same way the that Murray Gold does.
As for the regeneration itself, well, it really needs the curly wig for full effect...
my god this music is terrible. Really, quite horrible. Don't know why I keep watching. Just still can't believe it was actually used. This has to be a joke.
My god i always thought it would be such a novelty to use keffs music in new series stuff. Doesnt quite fit does it but i wasnt too wild on what Gold used for the regeneration scene either. The title sequences work well enough though :)
Gold is a genius. Thank god. I always hated the McCulloch music. I've always felt "Battlefield" would be good edited down to 3 episodes and with a different soundtrack.

I get you're trying to have a cheap laugh at Keff's expense, but it's blown up a bit in your face on account of the fact that this fucking ROCKS.

great video, but put:

into the video tag section and it'll get rid of the black border.

This is actually better than Murray Gold...especially the main theme which still has an eerie quality.

There's nothing wrong with the music, but it doesn't fit.. Except in the "previously"
and the title sequence.

This was great. I mean, I wouldn't mind Keff being in the place of Murray for the new series.

If he used the Delta & the Bannerman score however, (which is, for the record, the only thing wrong with that episode)

Keff should never have been used. His music killed the stories.

I liked Keff's music. It's not to everyone's taste, certainly, but I've got broad tastes.

The Sylvester McCoy theme is one of my favorites.

Keff did a good job in my opinion, although some may say it's dated, he varied his music, Murray Gold all sounds the same...

Keff is so much better than murray gold.
Bring him back, or for that matter any of the old composers
HappiWho 4 years ago 7
murray gold is a brilliant composer. really brings a element that boosts the shows quality.
n as much as i like the classic era music (such as the daleks score in genesis of the daleks) modern Who really has gone up to a whole new level
tardiselliot 3 years ago
Keffs music had variety, Murrays is all the same (basically), Plus he doesnt know when to stop the music.

Actually that works quite well. I've always thought of Gold more McCulloch than Simpson.
Just sync up the titles properly.
