  • WELCOME TO THE BEARING SEA

  • @MichaelHansenFUN is that like a big pile of bearings? or like where they make wheels?

  • Nice job =)

  • song name (Sea Theme - Bruce Hanifan) enjoy :D

  • song name (Sea Theme - Bruce Hanifan) enjoy :D

  • lol 4 white russens put sea can you do it with out seasickness hell all you can do run you mouth man up lol your a joke get off you ass and try it

  • Man these guys have guts to do this

  • what is name from the song?

  • @ronaldreika You get seasick because your eyes and your inner ears disagree with each other. IF you get sick, you just have to suck it up until it goes away.

As to manliness - Nelson got seasick. 'Nuff said.

  • Mike Rowe rules.......this guy just doesn't cut it

  • All of you that commented on sea sickness are dead wrong. It has nothing to do with bravado or manliness. I have seen old salts with years of sea time get seasick. And also some of the roughest toughest men you would ever face. Pussies? I think not. Some of you are plain and simple...Idiots!

  • 2:03 thats footage of a rogue wave

  • I miss Phil,

    R.I.P

  • @Crashmaster2K me too

  • Tide and currents have something to do with the size,, dduuuhh i think

  • can any body tell me how they avoid sea sickness. is it something that your body gets use to?

  • @ronaldreika only pussys get sea sick, and these guys aren'y pussys

  • @ronaldreika sea sickness is a perception weakness and fear ,when you are in charge of things ,when you are in control , you do not get sea sick

  • @rovidius2006 thats why newbies are more prone to seasickness FEAR ,

  • @ronaldreika not everyone gets it, i never had one sick feeling at sea, that had anything to do with motion that is lol, too much alcohol is another matter.. :x

  • Eu não queria trabalhar num lugar desse.

  • most people do these jobs because they can't easily do something else for a living. Or believe or not, they enjoy it.

  • it's crab.not fish

  • It is still referred to as fishing.

  • ... i'm happy that i'm no fisher, it's really dangerous :(

  • ...now I know why fish is so expensive:-)

  • Its not why fish ARE expensive. They're expensive because of supply/demand, not because they're physically exhausting or dangerous to catch.

  • Actually, the risk involved is a huge factor in why so many species of sea life are so expensive as food. You can't purchase a trustworthy ship for less than half a million, then you need to pay high risk insurance on that ship and on deckhands. Add in local, state and federal business taxes on your profit.... Hell, I wouldn't invest my fortune and risk my life for a silly $30 an hour.

  • Ah but in the end the only reason why they can afford it is because they are amongst the very few people who do this. If 100x the number of fisherman caught crab(assuming there are that many more to catch), then there would be 100x (give or take) more supply, and people would pay less for the food. At some point the price would drop so low that fisherman wouldnt be able to afford the business, so theyd drop out. Thus giving the FEW a chance to make any real money.

  • Not to say your wrong in that the price we pay NOW, isnt affected by the cost to operate the crab business. Dont misunderstand me. The only reason why they can charge this much however, is because the market prices are such that they dont go bankrupt. Its the same issue w/ farming. The more farmers, the lower the cost of food...too much supply, so it soon becomes impossible for some farmers to make a profit. This is happening to many farmers now.

  • @CarlLewenski mate try about 500 bucks a hour a good day

  • Must be the most hostile working environment on Earth and the scariest .

  • No wonder crab legs cost so freakin much!!

  • I m not going out to sea and am not going to eat any legs.

  • the caneries buy the crab from the boats at a price then they sell it to grocery stores.. resturaunts etc at a much higher price then those people sell it to the consumer for an even higher price.. so we take all the risk and get ripped!

  • geile serie, das ist noch ein Arbenteuer schnell sein geld zu verdienen aber auch sehr gefährlich.

  • crazy mofos, must be good money for that job

  • howe much money do a deckhand earn out in the bering sea? 100 grand per year?

  • NO WAY is that worth the money!!!

  • Exciting job to say the least.

  • wow! I eat them twice a month. They risk their lives for us.

  • mike rowe owns this narrarator

  • @flectz I like both

  • i WONDER whoops if they tie themselves on board so they dont get swept overboard?

  • Hi,

does anybody know, what´s the name of the melody in the background of the clip is?

  • haha fag

  • I'd love to be on a crab boat I don't care ifgI'm a girl or not. Some girls are crabfishermen and they've been there for awhile.

  • I'd love to sail the seas with you =D

  • Its not for the braviest either, you gotta have passion for that job, not be brave...

  • not "just" bravery... passion and bravery... you still need to be brave.

  • and drug money dont forget drug money

  • i love eating alskan crab. awsome

  • wow this is crazy i would probably be puking all over the place

  • Uh - yeah...I would be right next to you on the rail.

  • Much respect for these guys.

  • Comment removed

  • All the same, sailors are brave people. Who would argue?

  • Cornelia Marie is the best! One day i would love to work on at alaskan crab boat!

  • i know its honestly nothing compared to the bering sea, but sometimes fishing on lake erie in a 27ft boat on days that are 7-10ft waves can be pretty crazy. especially about 3 yrs ago when we were 5 miles out and seen 3 water spouts at once its pretty freaky

  • I am never going on a curise or becoming a fisherman

  • Working in the cold water for how long time? what do these fishermen wear?

  • sometimes 48 hours straight maybe more and they where simple rain gear and maybe some sweatshirts

  • they wear tons of gear under thier rain gear, and they dont stay out for 48 hours straight, th tv show makes it seem like they do, but they get breaks to warm up and eat

  • f*** this job i quit :)

i though my job is hard but this is a nightmare .

  • Ever since ive seen the very first episode of Deadliest catch, ive wanted to be a crab fisher on one of the boats

  • The Bering Sea, the North Sea, the Baltic and the Barentsz Sea are Neptunes favourite graveyards.

  • Those men working on fishing ship are so brave

  • А, хуйли вы думаете, так лекго пиздить нашего краба?? Ставте памятник гандонам Горби и

    Шеварднадзе, засранцы!!!

  • Why not have the superstructure placed forward, offering protection to an after-deck? I guess the skipper's nightmare is finding that when all the water clears off the deck, that it has taken all the crew with it. Frightening workplace. I've been in a pretty awesome foundry which dropped 16 tons of liquid malleable iron through a hole which burned through an induction furnace. But this is even more dangerous.

  • The Northwestern has that configuration because it was built for fishing, many other ships in the series, like Wizard, are converted tankers or haulers and not really made for fishing.

  • Interesting. Lobster and crab vessels seem to differ a lot in design around the World, even though they do a similar job. Maybe this is because of sea conditions/ how far they have to venture from port. I'm not a seafarer of any kind so I'm commenting from ignorance (!) but I'd prefer not to have to work on such an open deck as this one. Those who do have my deepest respect!

  • the northwestern was originally a smaller ship, and that design is common among those types of ships, i can see them being tankers persay, they are WAY too small, the corneila marie is the biggest i think at 150ish feet

  • Well the concept of tankers have changed during years, Wizard was built for the US Navy in 1945 as a oiler with a capacity of 240 000 gallons which explains the layout of the ship.

  • i cant see why they would use such olds boats in that case, they make tons of money, why not invest it into a more efficient and safer vessel...

  • Everytime I eat crab I think of those brave dudes out there making it possible for me to do so. We should never take what these men do for granted. Man we pay entertainers handsome fees to do NOTHING for us. lol...where's our heads at???

  • First two sentences are agreeable. For real.

    But the entertainers sentence? NOTHING?

Hell dude..they entertain people. If they weren't they'd be buried.

  • THE REAL REASON for more violent waves: The moon is a satellite that also controls the behaviour of our oceans and seas. Space is under attack because of all the "garbage" man hauls out to space. If the moon is messed with and moved even an inch off its orbital pattern, we would experience massive tidal waves. Another reason is what this docum. stated. Our oceans and seas are drying up causing them to be more shallow than ever before. Greenhouse gases and global warming. Just the beginning.

  • Been fishing on the North Sea for 14 years and this looks and sounds rather familiar.

  • esta gente si que tiene pelotas, la verdad merecen todo mi respeto y admiracion. aunque ganen mucha plata, hacen algo que muchos no harian.

  • "Euraquilo" from Dale Brown's cd "Narrow Path to the Kitchen" is the Med version of nasty seas

  • No there isn't hard working on those boats really, just when you are tired

  • no one seems to realize that it takes 10+ hours to get from string to string, and to port and back, has to take a good 3+ minutes to get the trap on board, and everything is lifted by cranes...

  • well mageac i think you're the one who doesn't seem to get it.....it took us no longer than an hour at the LONGEST to get from string to string.........and you don't go to port until you've got crab (which may be a week or longer).... stacking pots is not entirely done by cranes....in fact this job is probably one of the most physically and mentally challenging jobs you could ever do

  • well i have snow crab fished on the east coast , we load, stack, and lauch the pots by hand, and it was quite frankly one of the easier fishing jobs i have done.

the season lasts for about 3 months...

ESPECIALLY when you consider when you consider prices and stock are much much lower here

  • Yes you might think there is suicidal to be out there, but it really isn't. There isn't so often it's fun to be out there. I can tell you that.

    Edgar, Northwestern.

  • agreeeeed i wanna hell b e out there for the funn

  • is it hard to get a job on these boats mate?

cause i wanna be a crab fishing looks soo damn fun

  • I happened to watch Deadliest Catch once because I was bored..and am addicited to since. I cant believe these men work in so rough conditions and how many have drowned :(

Very interesting show never knew that fishermen job is so dangerous.I thought crabs and fishes are near coast :o)

  • Wats the name of the theme song?

  • This is a very, very dangerous job. I do think there are jobs equally dangerous. My brother was killed working in an iron foundry. You should see all the hazards there.

  • a wat?

tell me wat that is? :S "iron foundry" ???

  • Did you know that this is the most dangerous work on the world ?!I saw the footage on the Discovey Channel of a crab fishing.

Recpect for these who are working there!!!

  • This is a very cool show!

    ae911truth(dot)org

  • fuck you cowbitch

  • Fuck off, douche.

  • I hope you don't eat fish Liberals... We live near a small port and alot of friends including myself have lost brothers, fathers, sons etc. all through having fishing as part of your everyday livelyhood. don't like the show? don't bother to leave a message....

  • This is not Deadliest Catch.

    I've seen this show before.

It shows the most dangerous jobs and stuff.

Deadliest Catch just shows king and opelio crab fishing.

  • the captain on the wizard needs to chill when he yells at his crewmembers,he yells A LOT.

  • he says he's an emotional guy lol

  • best show alive

  • Wow!!! was that really the guy from the show saying hi?? awesome.

I think they don't farm them because those crabs need special conditions to taste so good and stuff, the place they live in makes them unique.

    "What the heck just heppened?!!"

"We just took a f***ing wave!"<--glad they bleeped it out

I don't want to think of the winds on that day.
