I remember walking into this museum and seeing the Oseberg ship.....Quiet and magestic stood this magnificent ship and I couldn't stop staring...The stories it would tell if only it could talk! So impressive!!!!
They are beautiful, but actually, the Oseberg ship - the one with the carvings - probably wasn't a very good sailing ship. She was most likely only built as a pleasure cruiser and only sailed short trips along the coast. The Gokstad ship, however - the one with no decorations - she was a warship. She may have sailed to Ireland and England on raids. A fascinating thought, isn't it? :-)
Well, I thought so. The video's not the greatest but at least you get an impression of the ships. And they really are unique. Expect a blog post soon, probably. :-)

Very nice. I was quite interested in the carving
on the keel. They are very elegant and seaworthy
designs.
