  • RIP dear sweet songbird

  • This is Etta's song, and her's alone, no matter who sings it, it will never sound like it does when Ms James sings it. How many weddings has this ORIGINAL version been played at? How many remember watching their parents dance to this when we were kids and knew we were watching love between them as they danced? A true legend, a gifted singer and one HELL OF A WOMAN. Prayers going up just for her......

  • @Diva2104 Love you Miss Etta, may you REST IN PEACE and may you bring as much joy to GOD the father and the Angels in HEAVEN you will NEVER be forgotten, LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Associated Press, Friday, December 16, 2011, 9:43am (PST)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -- "At Last" and "Tell Mama" blues singer Etta James, whose health has been fading in recent years, is now terminally ill, and her live-in doctor is asking for prayers

  • Give the women respect,,she paid her dues and God Bless her. I love her music and she is a legend..

  • I still want to know the guy on keyboard is, He is definitely a sexy man! Yeahhh - noooo ......don't tell me he is married............ooouch!!!!

  • Hey Etta we found you grandchild- she was adopted by the crow family, her name's Rachael Crow, check her up.

  • OK - S o who is the guy on keyboards?

  • Tino ataahua ...Very beautiful..your voice, your style...you. Thank you for this .. :-)

  • Ok so is he on the keyboards, with the caps Sexy to me.....and more... I want to know this guy.

  • this gentle jazz does justice to voice, lyrics, melody and musicians...thanks for sharing...

  • Glenn Miller may have recorded "At Last," but it is not what he is remembered for, however, it is Etta James signature song. If Miller had lived, no doubt he would have liked Etta's version.

  • thanks Etta we bow down to you mamma!! Priceless forever thank you. They don't even know.

  • love u Etta U r the queen of blues loving you more and drown in my own tears make me cry every time i hear them

  • This is wonderful thank you. I don't mean to harsh the mellow but so many of these posters are just dumb but they just can't seem to help it.

  • Is that John MAlcovich on the piano ? LoL

  • is she white or black..? what a soul singing..! i think she better than over rated aretha..

  • better and better and better!!!!!!!!! so so so wonderful!

  • I wish I could see her in concert one day

  • Bless Etta James and Thanks for all she gave us and the world, in a way not very much unlike Lena Horne! Amen

  • I Absolutley love her live performances , and for those that feel the need to compare beyonce And Etta, beyonce is a singer!!! she simply did what she love and she did it damn good so chill! , if y'all loved to sing y'all would do a cover as well with out the judgement and compArisons from others. And Etta James should be proud not upset that someone is modelling her music really well and passionate

  • You can't compare Beyonce to Etta, it's like if you compare a warm summer breeze to a chainsaw...I love you Etta...

  • why does every vid about Etta has to have a comment reminding us that Glen Miller did it first,Evidently her version was the most notable. How many People has covered other artist in the pas???shes not the first and won't be the last.In fact,i have yet to see ppl remind us how Most of the Black artist from this era had their songs covered without permission,Im sure They dont mind a songbird covering their songs.

  • Very good!

  • My comment about preferring Etta's version to Beyonce's is just a preference. It is not meant to dis Beyonce at all. I just prefer it, and find it to be filled with more feeling. I'm sure when Beyonce gains Etta's experience she'll be able to deliver the same kind of presentation.

  • Etta= Ever lasts!!! simply D-I-V-I-N-E

  • PRICELESS!!!!

  • She is wonderful!

  • Etta James is amazing and no one..not even beyonce can out -shine her on this song

  • Etta James doesn't own the song... and this supposed feud with Beyonce Knowles is crazy. Etta should be thrilled that a contemporary singer has renewed interest in her and her career. Really, come on now Etta. If Mozart were alive and he heard the National Symphony playing his music he should be upset?? Oh and by the way, Glenn Miller had the first hit with At last...you were like the 3rd or 4th cover.

  • MMMM.. Etta James -- Incredible. She says it all. What can I add?

  • Lady, is true blue amazing

  • Love you Etta James. Get well soon!

  • Sing it Etta, Even in her 70's, she still has it!

  • when was this performances?

  • FANTASTICA!!!!QUE MUSICA,QUE LETRA....QUE VOZ!!!

  • She sounds amazing!!!

  • HOLY COW!! My hero..FAR OUT WHAT A LEGEND!!! And she's 70 here? OMG! BOW down to jazz royalty!

  • omg! even at her age now, HER VOICE IS still AMAZING...i've never heard her sing live until hearing this...her voice is very unique...I've never heard another like hers

  • This woman is Magic!!!!!

  • Golden!!!!!!

  • Love this song. Love Etta's phenomenal artistic sense. Her phrasing is impeccable. She's a patient vocalist. As a vocalist and writer in Nashville, I study vocalists and the art of being a vocalist. Etta, even at 70, kills anything we younger folks have to offer. Not one vocalist I know would have the patience to wait for the moment, to stay in the pocket, no matter the embellishment. Etta is rare perfection in my world. And anyone who doesn't think so has no ear for art.

  • Etta is a legend...with legendary music and songs. I doubt Beyonce will be singing "Put a ring on it" when she 70 years old.

  • super!!!!!!!!!

  • I NEVER tire of listening to this song- when sung by the INCOMPERABLE and ever SOULFUL Ms. Etta James- You're Beautiful Etta & to me will ever remain in my Heart as the FIRST LADY OF JAZZ !!! Ain't Nobody can hold a candle to you at any age! Glenn Miller may have done it first, Nat king Cole may have done it next BUT THIRD time was the Charm coz when you sang it Lady- It became a Masterpiece of JAZZ artistry. Nuf Said!

  • Etta James is the only person who should sing this song... i don't understand why she wasn't asked to sing this at the inauguration (unless she was ill at the time, which i don't know if she was or wasn't)... I know beyonce has a great voice, but Etta James will ALWAYS be the best singer of this song. That's fact.

  • im praying for u etta i know ur sick right now but i swear if it kills me ill keep ur legacy alive baby

  • that's amazing, i see she can't go to high in her notes ...that's why she keeps doing low notes...but still amazing!

  • @davidkmathews Go back and read what I wrote. I didn't say there was anything wrong with her. I was talking about the overplaying keyboard player. SHE is amazing. Over react much? Let me guess are you the keyboard player? It's distracting, the attention away from where it should be. And I do no shit. I've been playing all of my life and I am a singer as well and I would fire someone who played that much over the vocal melody.

  • its sad to see how music has developed over time it went from classic to cussing every second or talking about sluty chicks . but i do love the song at the end

  • its sad to see how music has developed over time it went from classic to cussing every second or talking about sluty chicks .

  • Brilliant..but gotta say she should have been touched that soooo many people want to record her songs....

  • Etta James is soo amazing, She is real

Love her version as much as Christina Aguilera version, both are the best singer ever!!

  • I agree that it is about the music. No need to compare Beyonce to Etta as they both

sing well and bring their own depth and perception to a song. One true fact is that

Beyonce brought a new group of young listeners that can appreciate GREAT MUSIC,

and for that I thank her.

  • Legendary Etta james

  • I agree that beyonce sings this better. Etta James voice stills sounds the same tho. you have to respect them as artists because it's not a competition. I don't like this version, jus saying.

  • Etta Owns ths song at any age!!! She is Amazing .Such Rich vocals and just listening made me cry...No one can sing this like her. Bravo!!!!

  • @cupcakeandme1 Yeah, this is the best I've heard her (in her senior years)

  • keyboard player is a jackass

  • @Catscratchrecords does he owe you money? me too!

  • @Catscratchrecords you got that right. way too much playing...this needs minimalism in the arrangement.

  • @Catscratchrecords You don't know Sh**.I played with Etta for 20years,and she was always happy with how i played. This was a rare 4tet date,we usually used a large band wit horns etc, totally different vibe......I personally think she sounds great here at 70yrs old.if you all wanna talk about something, say a prayer for her,'cuz she's at home, sick,

and she's done performing. it's over..................

  • @davidkmathews I enjoyed this performance and was proud of the coverage and artist!

    Jonathan X

    Director

    God bless her

  • @davidkmathews I so totally agree! What you said! Hate it when people talk trash 'bout things they got NO business talkin' 'bout! If ya ain't ever been there- ya DON'T even know. I was married to a professional musician- (twice over and I was also a musician too-pro). Now I am also dealing with health issues too & so I feel for her. WILL say a prayer for the brilliant Lady of Jazz- Ms. James. She owns this song like NOBODY before or since- so Smooth & Tasty! We LOVE you ETTA <3 <3 <3 !!!

  • @davidkmathews

Amen, brother........i do pray for Miss Etta.........i would have gone on the road with her to polish her shoes !

Polly Ess............I she is my absolute favorite !!!!!! Etta and Bro. Ray Charles

  • @davidkmathews oh how i envy her!!

  • @davidkmathews I'm sorry to hear Etta is sick, I've been enjoying her music since I was a kid. Don't let these fools get under your skin, they have no idea what real music is or what singing from your heart is all about. It's like trying to explain quantum physics to a five year old, it just doesn't register. Let them remind in the dark because they'll never know what they're missing.

  • @davidkmathews gOD BLESS HER AND YOU FOR ONE OF THE GREATEST TALENTS. i FEEL EVERY NOTE. tHANK YOU

  • @davidkmathews U R RIGHT A HAS BEEN GO GIRL

  • he wouldn't know anyway cause probs not had such experience but yes I agree she is doing ace and its sad to hear she is dieing from a cancer

  • Love her voice ...woooow.

  • Another Puerto Rican that loves Etta James.

  • From: Puerto Rico

BELLO HERMOSO .... NI BEYONCE PUEDE IMITARLA LAS GANAS DE ELLA NO LE LLEGA NI ALOS TOBILLOS!!! COMO Etta James Nadie

You are the Firts and the Only Etta James Beyonce Never!!!

  • Etta James "owns" this song! Come on people-she's getting older but still has a satan voice!

  • @desert3347 Please tell me you mean "satin" and not "satan"! LOL!!! XD

  • @LadyofWar1980 OMG, I Spelled "SATIN" wrong***voice like smooooooth and soft!!

    Sorry. :) feel dumb.

  • @desert3347 No need to be sorry. I just wanted to point it out because I thought it was hilarious! ;-) It's just a typo!

  • she doesn't sings good in here, Beyonce sings it much better

  • @sakinehbs agree she sounds different here

  • I love Etta James and she is a wonderful singer. I really love this version of At Last the best!

  • wonderful, but it was Glen Millers first.

  • @hbcannon Glenn Miller in 1942 followed by Nat King Cole in 1957. Etta covered it in 1961.

  • I absolutely LOVE ETta...miss you babes

  • perfection!

  • Glad I had you laughing!!! I sing, Jazz as it happens, I think my musicians

would have a field day at my Divaish behaviour if I were to take over

the song like she (so disasterously) does in this version!! To the purist's

it's just my humble opinion!! ... love you Etta xxxx Dee

  • God, beautiful way of singing! Etta James still rocks! :)

  • Even at this age...she rocks...you still got it etta xxx

  • Etta, look at you...YouTube luvs you...beautiful musice decades ago and now to the next generation baby!

  • when Etta sings it. it has sooooo much soul in it. it makes yo think when u first fell in love (true love)

  • Back in Ms James Day the Entertainers were PROFESSIONAL to the teeth!the singer & the band worked together!to entertain! The Piano man is doing exactly as the genre was typical of!that allowed the singer to give a little jazzy blues notes.in the beginning she motions with her hand to the camera man to come in close!but they do a cut to the guitar man!Ms James is & was of the era where people knew how to entertain!not like the trollops we have today!

  • I wish people would stop comparing Etta James to Beyonce...there is no comparison...two totally different woman from TOTALLY different times and have walked very very different paths in their lives. Beyonce is not trying to be better than Etta but pay tribute to her. They are both beautifully talented artists & woman in their own right.

  • Man, She still could sing!!!!!! I love you Etta....

  • Waaaaay too slow.. she sounds like shes bored waiting for the keyboard player to catch up!!

  • @gingerh68 I said the same thing too at first but then I thought about it like...maybe half the songs today would carry more meaning or even highlight a few good messages in selected songs if they took their time performing them. give us all a second to really feel what's being said and comprehend it. The songs might last a bit longer too lmao.

  • @gingerh68 lol

  • awesome. love her

  • keyboard player over cooked that and totally drowned her out. chill out with her Mr keyboard player.

  • go head girl u still got it cant nobody take that from you...

  • she's got an amazing voice....soul that some other musician's are lacking off. This was my wedding song and everytime i listen to her it get tears in my eyes....love you Etta!

  • she looks great hear.

  • Maravilhosa... linda... absoluta entre nós.

  • I wonder if Fats Domino was really her dad?

  • @tbursee Her father was the famous Pool player Minnesota Fats...

  • @tbursee The rumor was Minnesota Fats was her father

  • Wow this is awsome;)

  • still loving you. baby, i'm a fool..

  • This woman still has it after a decade.I so love you Etta.I first heard of her when I was a teenager in the 90's.My mother told me listen to this woman. There is no woman with a voice has gold like Etta James. At first I told her mom I'm a teenager I'm not going to hear some old folk song. But she played it And I was hooked. Now I have her on my IPod Max.I can't get enough of this woman.Etta I wish I can meet you in person.Till this day your voice is still golden.Voice like an ANGEL.Love you.

  • The great Etta only gets greater. Her voice just gets better.

  • I'm not saying that she only ever sang one song. Or that she will only be remembered for this one song. Or that she wasn't a great singer in her day! But, the way she is ending her career, sadly, is the way this generation will remember her. "At Last" was never "her" song. She never held the copyright. It was a huge hit by the Glen Miller Band first! She got lucky when she sang it and a lot of people loved it. No appreciation for singers who are bringing her to the attention of this generation?

  • @BirdOfParadise777 No, it's not her song, but it is her trademark song, like Unforgettable is Nate King Cole's, or Somewhere over the Rainbow is Judy Garland's. Whenever I hear this song, no matter who sings it, I always think Etta James.

  • @Mavis Yeah! I never think of anyone but her too when I hear it. I turn it up! LOL It wasn't meant as a put down. I was responding to the "stab in the heart" at Beyonce, when she did a great job at "portraying" Etta in the movie! I just think it's really sad that she missed a wonderful opportunity to increase her number of "fans!" After she's gone, those comments she recently made about Beyonce, that's what many people will make a "bigger deal" about and that is going to be hard to listen to:(

  • If no one had heard the origonal she did- no one would listen to this twice! I have loved the origonal song for so long and sang it for so long that this is hard to listen to. Sometimes, maybe it's better to step aside gracefully and turn your attention toward younger singers. By helping them, she'd be remembered for more than, (a "one song sally") "I can't stand her, she singin' my song!" The ones who were great, but now are "past it" and won't help the "up and comming", well, it's just sad.

  • Got damned LEGEND! Queen of the blues.....

  • i suddenly missed my mom just by watching her sing her lungs out ^_^

    i adore her voice ...

  • Years ago I drove hours to see Miss Etta James sing her heart out. She has it still. Thank you Miss Etta James.

  • GO ETTA JAMES

  • Etta is sublime here doing her "At Last" classic..luckily have been enjoying this legend many times in concert since my teens in 64 & she is always an incredible experience...Bravo Etta!!!

  • ETTa jAMES iS A LEGEND :)

  • VERY GOO0D, SHE did great!

  • simply beautiful!!!!!

  • Etta has dimentia from drug abuse, so her comments regarding Beyonce and the president should have not been known to the public.

  • 72 and she still looks good. Beautiful voice, but Beyonce being so young really did a great job on this song. Etta felt the song from her life experience.

  • thats very jazzy - no matter which way she sings this song, its good.

  • these people that r sayin tht she messed up on the song they wrong for that because she 72 years old and at least she went out there and sang ha song and she can sing much betta than whoeva been sayin dhet mess

so talk wat u kno and if u have a problem wit tht message me... idc ...... but i like this song a lot and she is real good because sshe has the spirit and heart tehw hit these high notes and she did really good on them so thats what i think about this..................:D

  • Etta James has turned old age into fine Wine* she sounds even better at 71 than she did at 41, she is indeed the Queen of Soul and still making great music.

  • basically etta jamessss is the owner of this...beyonceee is just an good copycat...(as usually) smh

  • damn! damn! damn! her we gooooooooo!

  • Nobody sings this song like Etta James, it doesn't matter how she sings it, no one can touch a flame to her on this one. When I hear the first few notes of her singing I get chills.

  • Best way to hold a good note for a long period of time is to take the deepest breat you can hold right before the time you need to hold the note, there is a pocket in the area right at the tip where your rib cage does the V,it is called a diafram, use it huny it won't fail you,it took me a few years before I was able to really use it and now I can hold longer notes, you can hold a number of notes in one breath as well, that is always a fun trick..LOL

  • what a beautiful voice and what a range she has...WOW, sends chills down my spine the way Etta James sings!!

  • I am not going to dignify the Beyonce' comments here. I love beyonce'. Etta is in a class of her own. Etta even in her aged state PUT THIS SONG TO WORK. This woman is timeless and I can hear the passion; love; pain; experience and LIFE in this song. Etta a timeless classic. You go girl!

  • so low yet so powerful! the Voice hasn't aged at all!

  • Great take on a classic... Kudo's

  • ilikeee it but i think beyonce did it better but she did good as well

  • @OmgGirls04 U better hope Beyonce can still sing at her age.

  • Comment removed

  • @OmgGirls04 Yeah but you're just some dumb kid who wants to think that so of course that's what you think.

  • @SmokingOneTwo u sound so f*ckn stupid u make no sence at all st**pid a*s

  • @OmgGirls04 Haha, great comeback. Ya dumb little brat.

  • @SmokingOneTwo shut up u stupid ass bitc how old are u and how u get mad over a opinion immu stop talkin to yo special ed a**

  • @OmgGirls04 You're funny and ugly. Your mother has 14 penises. Some of them have grown inward into her own ass.

  • @SmokingOneTwo bitch u ugly too thats y yo mom is a lesbiann u dumb hoe i hope u die in 5 dayss bitchh

  • Etta should of sang this for the Obamas. Why didn't they ask the one who first recorded it.I think because Beyonce was younger.Prejudice works for me here.

  • @schwibert If she was as smart as I know she was, she would have said no. She could see beyond the shiny cover of a man, and had been lied to enough to know one when she heard it.

  • @swifturtle12 your right she would be to classy for those who did perform my personal thought anyway..

  • read her biography.incredible

  • Great Etta James performance!

  • Offbeat yet Perfectly On Time, this is too ill

  • absolutely stunning......
