this is the second time I have heard Jesse Colin Young.. and I loved him ..his music was great.. have two of his albums from the early days.. but I will say that his voice isn't what it used to be.. that said.. he is a great vocalist in that he knows how to use the voice he has to its greatest ability.. and I would still pay to see him..
esta en vivo... no entiendo porque la critica de su voz suena perfecta y tal vez aun mejor por estar en vivo los detalles del audio no son importantes GRAN CANCION!
Terrible singing!!!! Needs to get the Mic out of his mouth. When he comes up for air and backs off he sounds great. Otherwise, can't understand a single garbled word he is saying.
it was 1978 a small club in makawao maui me n a friend were flying on an once of pure colombian flake..we were making so much noise n going to the head jesse was laughing at us while he was playing...was served a complete gourmet dinner all we ate was couple of strawberrys n a couple bottles of wine...one of my greatest memories
Suppose you took the pill, and you had it all exposed? What would you do? Would you be able to tolerate the knowledge? Or: would you want to have darkness cover it all up, so you could be "normal" again.?
Does anyone have a video of Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods from around 1983 or so. They did a concert at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre opening for America, and I would like to see that version of Darkness Darkness as it would bring back a lot of memories for me.
music makes me high never smoked dope or any pills but I get high from 60s music Cipollina Youngbloods Love Grateful Dead Woodstock festival Country Joe Jefferson Airplane 13 th floor elevators Seeds Sonics and so on Love fr Babsanfredrik in Sewden
Great tune... sorry but the young of today are so wound up in being selfish and materialistic that they can never come close to being as aware of the crap going on around them and being able to stand up to it in a constructive way through music in large enough numbers to ever make as much of a difference as these guys did back then to change society. Golden Earring does a great cover of this on thier CD Love Sweat!
@alanmorri I disagree; same thing has been said about the next generation for millennia There's great music now if you look beyond the pop hits and maybe the styles that you're used to.. Consciousness wise, they're plenty of very aware youth now. But think, perhaps not you, however was it not our generation that marketed and sold this materialistic culture?
@yangyin09u I stand by what I said about the ability of music today to be able to effect as many in the general public in a way that makes them want to try and change the status quo in large enough numbers to actually be able to make changes in the behavior of our so called representative government. The numbers and the will is just not there as it was then..no way! It is even more out of control now. And I agree there is a lot of great music out there! The materialistic thing started long ago
@brad~12 - Incoherent? Not sure where you head is at. Perhaps missing in Anxiety? Pull up the words, there is a solace in this message for those of us who have lost a child, to an accident, a War, or just because of ignorance. Sad you can not hear the peace this song can impart to the heart.
one of the most original/unique voices ever. And, boggie chillens, we're talking bout the 60s...the rebirth of freedom of expression. I sure as hell hope this man, his group, are in the RNRHOF.

Are you kidding? This is really bad. Saw him live and it was worse. Off key and also really poor violin. Guess the rest of you don't get out much. No offense.
No I was not kidding. Contrary to what you said I lived in the third largest city of Canada up until three years ago and went to zillions of concerts so I stand behind my comment, therefore I do take offense as to what you said!
Sorry! Its only my opinion. Yeah, I saw the Youngbloods in 1971. It was my first concert. I was 12. I fell in love with them and followed them all through the years. Then I went to hear them a couple years ago, and it was really really bad, like I said. Off key singing, poor solos, low energy. And the violinist, if you can call her that, sounded like she started taking lessons a month ago. Plus she needs a fashion consultant. OMG! Loafers on stage.
shellsraeone, OMG give your head a shake! Music is nothing about what a person wears! It's about we get out of it emotionally. Years ago I was at Loreena McKennitt's concert in Vancouver Canada and Carolyn played her Cello in barefeet dressed in peasant clothing. The concert was 5*+ When you rate musicians on something so shallow I can see you are really missing a link and that is my opinion. Sorry to be so honest!
I completely agree! A great musician can wear just about anything and the crowd will welcome it. However, the stage is a sacred place where performers present themselves. All I'm sayin is JCY's fiddle player (might be his wife?) can't play the fiddle (dispute me on this). Maybe she could dress for the occasion. At least Linda McCartney knew to do this - and her tambourine playing was over the top compared to this. LOL!
shellsraeone, Rolling my eyes at you! You contradicted yourself by your first two lines, then saying maybe she could dress for the occasion? and comparing her to LM. This gal is fine on the violin. I can't play violin but could probably do fine on a tambourine like LM...not a good analogy you gave...com'on!!!
Shellsraeone.....You are waaaaay too full of yourself. I am a musician. The stage is the stage...comfort and loyality. I checked out your youtube page....enough said. GO smoke a doobie or something. Peace....
bluesman5280! I took your advice. I smoked a joint and watched your video. OMG! You guys have got to know that you are far better than JCY's fiddle player. Come on!!!!
I would happily pay to hear Jesse playing live. I read a few rubbish comments criticising his vocals in one video but this debunks them totally. If anything his voice has matured to greater tone and depth. Wonderful.
What a great song. JCY sounds a LOT like Robert Plant...they're probably close in age, so that's appropriate. The Robert Plant version is not as long, which doesn't do this great song justice. Thanks for posting!
Awesome tune....
