Having dealt firsthand with substance abuse - from relative/and sibling...they really do have to WANT help...they lie lie lie/hide things..and you try and try to help, only to have them cont. to lie/hide and even steal...it's a no win situation, and I agree - leave it to the professionals.

Sorry to hear you've had to deal with a roommate like this. I can just hear mr. Mackey say "drinkin's bad m'kay", but somehow I don't think that level of advice will help out here. I guess a good place to start for a recovering alcoholic would be... well... perhaps not to have alcohol in his apartment?

Anyway, something else I wondered: if you're cutting your nails, then why not remove the polish after the cutting?

Being a former alcoholic i know what that guy is feeling....now dont take this the wrong way but cos you are inexperienced in this you dont want to get sucked into his life as it will consume you and take over yr life...its good that you feel for him but stay on the fence and let pros deal with him.its a shame i know but at the end of the day only he can stop when he is ready...just be very careful is ehat i zm trying to say ok...love snd peace....

@hawkwindism Thanks for letting me know. Yes it is decided he will not come back. In the process of dealing with social worker, his sponsor and family. It is a nice quiet neighborhood and as my roommate says "He will not die in this house." I think he has been preaching at AA to others, being an inspiration, but not practicing. Of course it is easier to say than to do. I feel for him but this is beyond me. Thanks for writing me
