Jack Layton is an hypocrite. He and his party say they defend the working class but at the same time they want to raise immigration levels to "1% of the Canadian population a year" ! This is almost 350,000 immigrants a year!!! The excess of immigrants to Canada is creating a huge army of cheap labour and that presses wages down and creates unemployment and underemployment. And this affects badly not only immigrants but also Canadian workers. Is that how you defend the workers, Mr. Layton?!?

@237Michael Excessive immigration has destroyed the quality of life in Canada, to the point where even the health care system has deteriorated. Immigration is fine "in moderation". On the other hand "excessive immigration" kills countries, such as in Canada. The unemployment rate today is 8%, and yet Prime Minister Harper is boasting about allowing about 650,000 more immigrants into Canada in 2012, absolute insanity.

The Senate has surely out stepped its purpose here. The senators are abusing their power in disregarding the house of commons, the elected officials who should have the power.
