  • What a great vid. Thanks!! Weren't those great times....Thanks for sharing them with us!!

  • I was there. Lemmy gave me and my mate backstage passes. Hung out with Ozzy, Randy, Motorhead and Frank Marino. Franks set was dull - seemed like one big solo. Lemmy gave us mini Snaggletooth's for sewing down leg of trousers. Spoke to Lem last year and reminded him about taking us under his wing. Still have Ticket, T Shirt and Programme. Randy stole the show.Great gig and great memories.

  • I was there, it was the loudest show I have ever attended - right from the first band it was full watts. It was a fantastic day, Randy was tops Motorhead were awesome but Frank was the king of the event he smashed it. The power of R&R was his new album & I'm telling yer he burnt the stage....Happy days :)

  • ...that was a SHOW...what a bill!!!!!!! Incredible photos (Vardis, too!!!!!) - great backstage work...have ya done all the shots, Jim?

  • @beyondtheveilofdeath

    I wish !!

The colour ones are mine, except two of Frank which were from Kerrang :-)

  • I was there. Rhoads stole the show.... However Frank Marino was awesome.....

  • I still remember Uncle Ted Nugent on an interview74:" I had guitar battles in Detroit-Toronto area. Had one with Wayne Kramer who is a great guitarist. Had one with Frank who wasn,t". Thanks Ted. I never understood the real reason for that comment.

  • I was there :)

  • wish i still ad the t shirt and poster waqs 16 at the time....loved lemmy ...bomber

  • I was there. Happy days. (Isn't he small :))

  • I was there. Happy days.

  • I was at this concert and still have all the merchandise; one fantastic day and yes the late Randy Roads was outstanding, as were Vardis and Motorhead.

  • I was at this gig ... just a teenager at the time. Was gutted there was no beer on sale but we managed to sneak in 1/2 bottle of whisky in the lining of my leather jacket. Frank was awesome ... Triumph were snoresome. Great line up altogether tho'. Went to see Sabbath who cancelled just a few days before ... Replaced by Ozzy. I've never seen so much love from a crowd shown to a performer ... if there were 40,000 people at that gig there were 80,000 peace signs punching the air in time with Ozz

  • I was there, what a great day, whitesnake aint no love in the heart of the city was being played between changing for the next band, the whole stadium was singing it, amazing, triumph, mahogany rush, Ozzy Motorhead, one the best venues i went to in the 80's, thanks for this.

  • I'm from stanfields about a few minutes walk from the ground,I remember this day as the musc was loud as hell, must have been Marshall kit.

    Lil Chalk stanfields

  • i remember vardis opening this gig

  • To you posters that were there.... I am majorly jealous! would have paid anything to have been at this show!

  • i was there it was a great day pissed out my head and very hot and sunny and extremely loud great memories

  • I was at this concert - never seen Frank before, but he was astonishing! Seen him a couple of times since then - a genuine Guitar hero!

  • The sounds are great. When was this?

  • @lukemanify

Back in 1981 in Stoke-On-Trent. Thanks for listening and commenting!

  • @lukemanify

just find your post. I was there that day, fanatastic, awsome power. did you remember the sky divers coming in when Lemmy fired up "bomber" first number I think also fired up the air raid sirens. Your pics brought back great memories.

    mark

  • @djrocker50 I'm not the one to thank. jjmc60 may be the one. Just wish I was there...

  • Man when was this show..This has got all the greats thar no one gives a shit about in one concert all they need is to add uli roth and randy hanson to this show...I cant believe riot was there..Now that would have been a good party..Fast eddie clark shit? What the hell is he fast about? Lmao,''You know!

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Listening to "Juggernaut" at the moment! Good music and pics. One thing, did you notice anyone filming Frank or Ozzy sets?

  • @vntr2006

Thanks for the great comment! No - anyone with a bag,etc got searched.

  • my friends were there !! i couldnt go ( lived in france at the time ) they brought me a tshirt that i wore for years .. in 2002 for randy castillo benefit in los angeles , i was wearing this shirt , and slash was smoking outside the key club , i went to say hi and when he saw my shirt , he was so amazed !! we talked about frank and music for a good 15 mn ... frank is so underrated !!!

  • really fantastic video and sound

  • i was at that concert and it brings back fantastic memorys, motorhead were great the volume was awesome, good on ozzy to come there and frank marino was awesome, a real heavy metal treat

  • Nice photos! Thanks for sharing those with us! I particularly like the shots of Frank's pedalboard. That must be the one I once read about, where he said that he had to have every possible sequence of pedals. So he'd have a fuzztone, then a wah wah, then another fuzztone, etc, because you get different sounds depending on what order the pedals are in. He said it took three people to move it.

  • My first concert outside Holland ever, what a great vibe overthere Black Sabbath didn't show up so Ozzy came with Randy Roads and offcourse Frank Marino . Never forgot the guy who felt from the sky dead outside the stadium during Motorheads Bomber Shocking experience

  • Heard that Randy Rhoads and Frank were the stars of Port Vale.

  • Can you tell us any more about the backing track on this? Is it Frank & band from an old concert, or ....?

  • i was there too and i'm sure he opened his set with a short story about being on the m1 motorway then he started to sing 'roadhouse blues' or am i going loopy ? can anybody help me please ?

  • I was there at this gig and Frank Marino was BRILLIANT as usual. Absolutely Love Frank Marino, he is one of the GREATEST. God Bless Frank Marino.

  • i was at this concert it was a good day all round it was frank playing he did look mlike that but he is still to this day the most impressive guitarist i;ve seen live

  • Supersick vid!!!

  • I thought this was bad ass! I think he's purposely playing out of the pocket on this to change it up, and the drummer's snare accents on the count. I love the flatted fifth tone he puts in. Yes, it looks like Frank for sure- I had the Power of Rock and Roll on album (a shot of him on the back). -Peace!

  • What was going on in Frank's life at the time of this performance? It doesn't sound or even look like Frank Marino. It sounds like me with my 10 thumbs or some other amateur doing bad Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush covers. He was one of the best in the 70's and I'm glad he rebounded from this to become one of the best again and he still is to this day.

  • Frank Marino: It was very much a conscious choice, because I understood very early on that the way to make that choice to be "more famous" was to also choose to do some things that went against my personality, my music and my faith. No amount of money or fame is worth a man compromising his values or abandoning his principles. It was clearly put to me.....

  • Very interesting... around that time that you speak of, I was still discovering Frank Marino and his amazing music. I can feel the shift in his music; I was (at the time, and still to this day!) most blown away with his wicked chops and kick ass playing! It was then a more "party time" atmosphere. Now, I can appreciate where he is coming from with his early releases to the present. The man still has it(and then some!). Frank ALWAYS jams, no matter what context or climate!!

  • My man, Frank decided to be a real player not the commercial crime committed on by corporate rock that saw jimi's death as a way to make millions! Johnny is part of the same breed of real guitarists from that REAL rock era! Columbia got their hit with 'Strange Dreams' and recouped their losses and sold Marino down the river just like everyone they do. Don't ever think that the song was for anything but the label.

  • Utter drivel.

  • hey man...cool vid ! well put together eh!gonna see FRANK a week from tomorrow at the london bluesfest! thanx. rock on! russ.
