The answer is 1980, that was the only other time the won it in the six times they went to the World Series in the history of the Phillies franchise. The Phillies have been around since 1883. The Mets have been around since 1959, and won two WS's as well.

see we're only guna have citi field for 30-40 years and then they're guna rebuilt shea stadium again where it currently stands. by 2039-2049 these smaller luxury stadiums will go out of date and big stadiums of the past will be rebuilt and in style again.

So What? Jackie is a national icon and was a BROOKLYN Dodger (but also a ucLA Bruin and Pasadena raised)(BB55 stole my thunder). the Mets did the right thing and from what I heard, The rotunda @ Ebbets was a thing to behold. I also agree with pbj903 about the Giants, but with Black now a team color, I don't think it is as one-sided as it could've been.

New Yankee Stadium actually looks incredible from the outside, if maybe a little too overwhelming. But the artist's renderings of the inside of NYS are really bad. What a boring bland design. Current Yankee stadium is much more alive from the inside.
Citi Field may not have a view--eh what's to see anyway--but I think its field will be a hit with baseball lovers. Really intimate, fun and lively. Can't wait.

I agree, he rotunda should be named after a NY Met. It is great that the Cyclones honored Jackie, after all he played for the BK Dodgers not LA. Gil Hodges is a great Met for this to be named after. Jackie is an icon in American history for what he had to go through and what he had accomplished but the truth is he was never a NY MET. MLB retired his number 42 in his honor and as soon as Mariano retires, no one will ever wear that number again. Can this Mets fanchise honor one of their own???????

I completely understand the mets history and their connection to the Dodgers.if the mets want to name the rotunda after a dodger(which I don't understand) why not Gil Hodges?? after all he was the most popoular Dodger, managed the 69 mets, had his # retired by the mets and should be in the H.O.F. Just my opinion. I just hope the mets offer long time season plan holders like myself an opportunity to buy seats at the new stadium. It would be a shame if real met fans get shut out.

bart, the mets colors are based on the ny giants and the brooklyn dodgers...robinson was a dodger, as well as a major figure in new york baseball history. I think its appropriate...the only shame is that no ny giant history was incorporated into the new stadium, its largely based on dodgers history.

Try the Mets' WS win in 86. Or their run to a NL East title in 88. And perhaps I should remind you of Gary Carter, Tom Seaver, Yogi Berra, and Doc Gooden? They all either played or managed for the Mets at Shea. Even during the lean years, Shea still saw its share of memorable moments. I know, I was there for many of them...it will be sad to watch Shea go.
