This is, in my opinion- the Anthem of Hollywood- not film, per se- but the anthem of everyone who *works* in film, because sometimes, at the end of a long day, when you just don't know if it's all going to come together or not, and maybe someone in one department isn't getting on with someone in another department, or the budgets cut or...or, well- when the days are just long.
Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near Thats the time you must keep on trying Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though its breaking When there are clouds in the sky, youll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow Youll see the sun come shining through for you Charlie Chaplin
there is always an open road, there is always hope for the future, smile, and maybe tomorrow, you'll find that life is worth living...etc...etc...Chaplin was a genius, and a great man

We just have to think of the pioneers and smile.

The filming location for this shot was Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita. The area looks a bit different today.

The tramp's last words: "Smile, C'mon!"
A very bitter sweet ending to the silent era and one of the best movie endings of all time.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this symbolic of the end of the silent film era?

You are correct, considering this was Charlie Chaplin's last silent film; it was also created during a time when most films already had talking.

Does anyone think a poster with the :11 shot exists? That'd be magical
