Triangle choke from guard position is a typical kosen Judo technique. As some of you may know, Kosen Judo was fought between national elite college students back in those days. They fight clean and they respect each other. If you apply this move in the street against, say, black dudes, they will pick you up and slam you into instant coma. If the guy is not strong enough to slam you, he can still use his fingers to rip your genitals off. Triangle choke is not always practical.
......sigh. Bet you never been in a triangle before. Trained MMA fighters get caught in it all the time and still tap. What makes you think a random "black dude" is going to fucking escape. The slam I can see if you didn't try to grab onto his ankle or if hes fucking way bigger, but testicle? WTF are you smoking? Your testicle is in his fucking throat. Lets just say you have no fucking hands to control his hands, by the time he's get to your testicle, he is out.
@Vp4lif3 If you don't know what I'm talking about, rewatch Rampage vs Arona. That's what's gonna happen in a real situation. Fedor would not stand any chance against Randleman if they fought on a concrete. MMA is a safe combat sport, not real fight.
@WanderleiCornell you're kidding he just submitted a BJJ world champ in this vid.. who is several weight classes above him. THis is the absolute division.
You are fucking stupid. He is by far the best jitz guy in the UFC. You really don't have any idea what you're talking about so do more research before you spew UFC this and UFC that all over the place.
lol so wuts ur point none of this is gonna happen once the spider gets in the octagon lol let him try graping a leg and watch him get kneed in the face
@damobb510 Its a different game once it gets to the octagon, and who says he does weaken there legs with leg kicks than go for it. And that might sound good on paper, but watch the UFC and seehow many times it happens or even Strikeforce.
its O.k if you know a lot about man crushes and "B.J' s". If you know a lot about jiu jitsu I'd love to see "your" u-tube video. I know Maia has some, so does Hazelett. They know a lot about BJJ. I think you are confusing BJ with BJJ.
Not true at all. I don't think Hazelett's even a black belt. Even if he was, Demian Maia's definitely one of the best among the elite top level black belts in any weight.
Well, maybe not equally as good. Maia's jiu jitsu is more advanced. But Maia is also 31 compared to hazelett's 23. Maia has wins against better competition, and is also undefeated. I can't argue facts. But as Hazelett matures more as a fighter I can see his jiu jitsu being just as good. He is 1 of the few americans to have beaten a Gracie. (Rhalan). If you studied mma a bit more you'd know that Hazelett has been training jiu jitsu since his teens, and has a black belt under Jorge Gurgel.
I knew that he trained under Jorge Gurgel but I did not know that he had attained his black belt already. My mistake. But yes. In the future, he definitely has the potential to become a top level jiu jitsu player and has applied his jiu jitsu well to his MMA career.
yeah but unless he wins a few world championships he'll never be on level of Maia he hasn't really faced any one and Rhalan Gracie isn't exactly top of the food chain in the Gracie world if he could beat Kron Gracie then maybe, but i doubt it there is just level that Hazalet can't reach because it's just something you have or you don't
You make a good point. I think the only thing separating hazelett from maia is the fact that Hazelett is from the states where they don't support jiu jitsu as they do in brazil. I believe if Hazelet had the chance to train with guys maia did then he would also be a world champion. As far as raw talent and ability goes Dustin does have that. A perfect example is BJ Penn, it didn't take him long to become world champ with the proper training because of his abilities.
exactly it's the same thing with most guys from brazil that separates them from the rest of the world i mean Demian has faced Marcello Garcia 4 or 3 times in his career alone, but even BJ penn went to Brazil to get his black belt from Nova Uniao and started his training under Ralph and Rickson Gracie Hazelet has to go to that level to get to it
napão ta lutando como sempre muito tranquilo, diferente de outros atletas do jiu jitsu,na hora que tira o pano o cara luta nao fica querendo fazer rola de academia, parabens Napao, vai ganhar muito ainda!
Looks better than Fedor's sambo. Face it guys, Fedor's days are numbered. It's no surprise that Fedor is now ducking the UFC. He's scared of Gonzaga probably
Thumps if you watch this cause of ufc 131 countdown

Maia's Jitz is so overrated.. he would have a tuff time beating a top UFC fighter in a grappling match which is where the best grapplers are

Your man crush over Dustin is obviously obscuring your judgement, Maia bjj is far and beyond above Hazelett's.

I'm not sure what a man crush is. You seem to know a lot about it though. goblannobs.

I think Maia has the best half guard and butterfly guard in Jiu-jitsu. Marcelo Garcia has the best X-guard.
grapplerke 3 years ago
marcelo definitely has a better butterfly but when talking about 2 of the best ...it doesn't make much of a difference
you get to x guard most of the time by way of butterfly guard but ya

WTF.Maia(185) vs Gonzaga(240+)...weird.And yes i know their weight could have been different in the past but its still amazing.
k1meetsPride 3 years ago
wrong gonzaga.
plus, at that level, they do a lot of absolutes, so there is no weight class.
Kevynmeredith 2 years ago
Of course Gonzaga is fighting at Heavyweight and Maia is at Middleweight.. Gonzaga weighs in at 242 pounds and Maia weighs in at 185 pounds..
