No, because the recoil all goes out the back of the tube. That's why there is an opening in the back.

And also why if you stand behind it when it fires, your going to be seriously hurt. All the force goes out the back of the weapon. :p

It may make a bigger force, that I'm not sure of. But with the same size and generaly the same weight... you'd only need the same amount of thrust. But either way, it'd just all go out the rear.
