Listen to the wind blowing during the interview and watch the branches in the trees when he is landing and he takes off into the wind the same way he lands.
Dave's not kidding. Most fun for the buck you can get. Kitfoxes rock. Looks to me like he landed and took off in opposite directions..so cannot be a lot of wind helping out.
If your ever in the area, ther is a huge gravel pit behind my house...2 long flat landing spots,,,1 going north and south, the other going east and west....580 miles is probably outside your range
Don't forget that cold air is more dense that hot air and lift is certainly better in colder air; that said the Kitfoxes rule on STOL.

@blastforyou -- Winter is by far the best performance of the year. I not sure why anyone would not want to fly in it .

Ok that plane jumped into the air...
No where near 100 feet till it was airborne.
Up wind I suppose, but just the same, still awesome.
