Compared to the plastic cars they make today the MGB was a very well built car. I get 26 mpg city, 30 hwy on my 78 B. And like most cars if they are taken car of they last longer.
I've owned 2 '76 MGB's and a '77 and aside from the crack of doom on one door of one of the '76's and a bad ring gear one time on the '77 I had no troubles. I drove those cars everywhere! I also did work on a neighbors Midget and it was a great car.
I suspect they got a bad rap from people who didn't maintain them properly or bought them beat from others who didn't maintain them. Sure, the rust is an issue but nothing that bad if stay on top of it too and don't let it get too far.
what did british leyland do other than destroy mg's for decade and strike ????? i used to have a 74 mgb , possibly the worst car ive driven and nearly as unreliable As an alfa but with no up sides . i now have a 68 mgb and its great !!!!!
@RoadCone411 Actually I used to take my MGB down to the south of France every year, spend 4-6 weeks there and drive on the beaches like that. I didn't have crumby bumbers like that one though!
you mean people actually put the tops up instaed of leaving them down? I'm shocked! Anyway, thanks for upping this. Sometimes, leyland's marketing department really got things right (as seen here). that song is sooo catchy. Wish it was longer.
Ralph Nader killed the MGB with his stupid government regulations.

Zoom zoom? So Mazda wasn't that original after all!

I've always hated the MGB. I think the Lancia Beta Coupe was a vastly superior sports car in every respect.

lol, as a MGB owner i have to disagree, they are pretty reliable, but the triumphs are rubish for the majority.

I suppose my Spitfire has a few of the traits of a rube...

BL did make some good cars but they had such a rubbish built quality
no wonder why the Japanese outsold them with their cars that weren't so stylish but has excellent built quality

I'm surprised the cars driven on the beach made it off the beach without rotting away!
