Question: I noticed you have the sustainer mounted over the neck pickup. Does this influence the sound of the neck pickup, as it's magnetic field is being greatly increased? Also, do you feel it gets in the way of your playing? And finally, why is there distortion between certain slides, as if the guitar is reading two different notes at the same time?
hello im rafael from the Philippines a system like can you show me how to make it send me blueprint here is my email address jrvrico@yahoo.com im a person who cant afford a sustainer show me how to make one pls and thankyou
I need a fretless guitar. Lately I've been using delay effects and finger tapping to get my guitar to sound like a synthesizer. Having a fretless would open up so many more doors.
I would just like to know why didn't you put the pickup back in it's slot into the guitar instead of having it above the strings, getting in the way of playing.
The signal from the bridge pickup is fed into a battery operated, homemade circuit that outputs a signal to the 'driver' near the neck pickup (you can't see this very well in the video) that electromagnetically 'pulls' the strings every half-cycle.
The guitar and electronics were both built by me as a 'one-off' design - it's not a Sustainiac or Fernandes system, though it works in a similar way. I was inspired by both Michael Brooks and Ned Evett to build this guitar.
my guitar sucks...i connect it to a amplifier and it still sucks....sound like a acoustic but on high volume! why?...and either the chords are so hard to play!
Hello elobservadoenliinea -- How to get that "rock sound"?
Decent amplifiers have a "drive" channel - obviously my crappy first amplifier hadn't. As an alternative, get a "distortion pedal" and connect it between the guitar and the amplifier (you'll need 2 cables to do so). About the difficulty playing chords: maybe the strings are too high. Ask a guitar repair person to "lower the action"(lower the height of the strings) and it will be much easier to play. Good luck
yeah im looking for a fretless guitar with the fernandes, but i can't really find one. you should put some effects on that patch and it will sound great.

Hey man you made a great job!!!
Can you help me to build a similar sustain sistem?
I have a few question :
I read somewhere that a good Driver pickup has to be 8k of output , how much is yours?
The circuit that you use is a kind of preamp that runs on 9v battery?

So could you make a video on about the sustainer, just to see and learn more about, and its pretty nice for a homemade, but you have to fix that hum.
Rockinnsk8inallday 2 years ago 2
pretty cool, but it's an awful hum that sustainer has...

whole different kind of tone
kapalen 3 years ago 3
youre not limited to a twelve tone system (such as the notes A,B,C,D, etc...) and you can play microtones.
ratxinxaxcage67 3 years ago 5
and with a sustainer you can play violin lines
