  • How come she didn't do the leaps at 7:32 ?

  • I've heard her live :D In Łódź Philharmonic.

  • What happened just after 3:00?

  • Thanks for posting!

  • I heard this in a game and never knew what it was. I'm so musically uneducated. :(

  • Whoaaaaaa what type of clarinet is she playing? I just noticed it had three sets of keys on the bottom 'rack'

  • @ChoiChoiBunny This would be the basset clarinet, a clarinet with an extension down to low C.

  • @ChoiChoiBunny its called a basset clarinet. pretty rare. they were invented just for this piece i think

  • Love this song

  • ¡Está cortado el movimiento!

  • Se me estruja el corazón de saber que este fue el último concierto que escribió este gran hombre, el último de su corta vida

  • One day... ONE DAY, I ABCnormalperson1 will be as good a clarinet player as that woman playing on this video.

  • Is this Narodni Divadlo?

  • @miguellloria It is the Real Estate Theatre in Prague - a theatre where Mozart premiered his two operas - Don Giovanni and La clemenza di Tito

  • 11 viewers tone deaf!

  • All the clarinet concert is very nice

  • she's so good! I'll be as good as her one day soon

  • Great !!!

  • <3

  • Poor performance as she skips the technical difficulty at 7:32 !

  • OMG somebody coughed @ 4:25

    STAB THEM!!!

    XD

  • @Pyramid132420 we loled (L)

  • Love Mozart but have only just discovered his clarinet works. Beautiful!

  • Ahh.. I wanna be as good as her!(: awesome job!

  • she not too shaby!

  • Is that Seinfeld directing?

  • what happened at 3:06 & 3:31?

  • Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A major, K.622

Mozart finished this Concerto in the early days of October,1791...one of his last works. Heavenly !

  • Good Performance! Sounds like she got too excited to get done at 8:18 and honked the note. O.o

  • Comment removed

  • such a beautiful performance!! U.U

  • I swear, this is one of the best performances of this concerto.

  • I am not sure but is she double tonguing or just doing a more legato single tongue?

  • i love sharon kam she is awesome! <3 :)

  • what happed in 3:02?

  • My favourite movement of the clarinet concerto! If only I could play this a third as well as she does... *sigh* Excellent orchestra as well!

  • @Zorn96 I actually have an alto clarinet. My mother just happened upon it in our music store and since that's what she played in high school she dicided she had to have it and we got it for $300. It was used, and we know all the people at that store really well, but still. I've only been playing Bb for 4 years now, and alto for about 3 months and I already absolutely love it(:

  • Great! She does an excellent job playing this classic.

  • Sharon Kam -bravissimo from Poland.

  • Does it skip a few seconds every now and then (f.i.: somewhere around 4:30) or is it just a bad upload? :s

  • nice. and on a basset clarinet too!

  • its really fast, her tounguing is clear, flawless fingering, but what amazes me most is that she made it look and sound so light, flowing and easy!

  • im doing this solo!!!

  • @HunterParamoreFan Good luck to you! :)

  • Elle a un son très pur, même dans les aigus, et toujours adapté à la phrase musicale.

ses notes détachées sont splendides. Et on entend vraiment la musique de Mozart. C'est une très belle interprétation.

  • what type of clarinet is she using? its so long

  • 3:09 Alec Baldwin playing flute lol

  • @markjdover I was just about to comment the same thing!

  • 1) She's playing a Bassett clarinet in A, probably Buffet or Leblanc 2) It is longer than a standard A clarinet because the range goes down to low C which is 4 notes lower than a standard A. 3) Being a professional, she probably makes her own reeds or has them specially made for her. 4) Not sure on the mouthpiece, but the ligature is a Rovner. I have a Rovner too, but she probably has a special kind that was made for her.

  • Comment removed

  • I have 4 questions, i wonder if anyone could help me. 1) what kinda of clarinet do you think she is using?, 2) is it me or does it see like her clarinet is longer then most clarinets?, 3) what kind of reed, and 4) what kind of mouthpiece/lig?

  • @701DWP (1) Sharon is playing on a Buffet Prestige Basset Clarinet in A, now regarded as the 'correct instrument' for the piece; (2) it is longer because it extends to the C below middle C as written through extra pinky keys and keys operated by the right hand thumb and is longer than a standard A clarinet; (3) I don't know what kind of reeds Sharon uses; and (4) Sharon plays Peter Eaton mouthpieces (an English maker) and a vandoren leather ligature

  • @djphay

Thanks a lot for this information.

Don't real basset horns sound much cruder?

  • Das haut einen echt um - fantastisch!

  • que estupidos y aburridos los de la audiencia, Sharon te amooooooooooooooooooooo

  • If i were there, i'd aplause stood up, or shouting or anything! This audience looks bored!!! HOW COME?

  • I dont understand those cuts.

  • Mediocre.

  • Stellar performance! This being Mozart's last concerto, and one of his last compositions, I wonder if he knew somehow, that his time was short. The second movement seems to be filled with a serene sadness and this final movement is vivacious but still with an "acceptance" of one's fate. I have to say that although this movement is well-played, hearing it "cut" in some places, is like being jabbed in the gut. Maybe it's just a fault with the video, but NEVER edit Mozart.

  • Bravoooooooo!

  • Ahh! the ending was so strong.

    :)

  • Bravissimo !!!

  • I love her

  • Love this Orchestra. They are the 20th in the world right now

  • she is so sexy

  • @bobstronge not the type of comment you make here, maybe in separate conversation, but not here

  • Esto solo tiene un comentario... MAGNIFICO

Daría lo que fuese por tocar en un futuro como Sharon *.*

  • I noticed she only did the twitching kind of thing whenever there's an accent.

  • This is my favorite movement :)

  • for all she is an amazing clarinetist, she annoys the hell out of me!

    exelent rendition however.

  • This is magic

  • sounds very nice! I think Mozart would've wanted a little more staccato in some parts though. Excellent nonetheless

  • I might be wrong but i think this video skips a bit in some parts.

  • @Thejin2027 It skips atleast twice.

  • and again at 4:05?

  • 3:05 and 3:21, sounded like small blips to me,but there is nothing missing. There is also definitely a glitch of some sort @ 4:05, but nothing is missing. I have played this piece and,it is my number one favorite piece in the world, and is by the greatest composer who ever put notes on paper or in the air. I do not believe there are cuts in the recording, just a couple of bad spots in the medium on which it was laid down. Isn't the second movement the most beautiful melody you have ever heard!?

  • are there cuts in this video at 3:05 and 3:21? it sounds a little strange to me...

  • i first heard this piece in the movie "The Benny Goodman Story", Steve Allen plays Goodman and is asked to play something other than Big Band/swing at a rich person's home behind a small orch. He wows the snooty rich folk and Donna Reed (playing a snooty bitch) falls in love with him.

  • 5:15 to 5:24 is soo beautiful

  • I've never played on a basset horn before but I've played on an A clarinet before and to make some of the articulations its a little harder since I'm use to Soprano Bb clarinet so I'm guessing to play on a basset horn it probably takes a lot more air and Sharon Kam makes it seem so easy

  • Women are so beautiful when playing music :) and Sharon Kam plays godly :)

  • I've listened to this song WAY too much. I bought the one played by Sabine Meyer in order to get better on my Basset.

  • She is really fantastic! I love so much this song. Sharom play very good. This the best song of Sir Mozart^^

  • I think the basset clarinet has the same upper section as the Bb soprano. The lower half is longer with the extra low notes and keys to run them. Great performance, rotten editing where it hurts

  • i also have to play this on b-flat. this song is soo amazing!

  • WOW it´s great! Really fanastic!

I´m listening this piece in Rotterdam, De Doelen, in January. Wondering how Frost wil play it there! I think he will do more with the dinamics?

  • Frost adds more emblishments.

  • I'm studying this song at the moment...so i guess i've got to listen to it and not get annoyed...somehow

  • same here except i have to do it on b-flat, i really love this song

  • excellent tonguing.

  • kind of a lukewarm reception for a sterling performance. she deserved much better.

  • @dicktobin you are soooo right...the audience sucked...probably wouldn't know good music or a great performance if you hit them over the head with it...LOL!!!

  • mag-nificant!

  • wonderful!!

  • UP THE IRONS

  • So on a Bassett Clarinet - the extra Eb, D, Db and C - where are they on the instrument? They surely aren't just extra little-finger keys!?! Someone mentioned a right thumb key - that'd be awkward? No?

  • Yup it is on the right thumb

Just like a bass clarinet :D

Bassons also have keys on the right thumb

  • Y'know I've never PROPERLY played a Bass Clarinet - I think I did once... YEARS ago for a few minutes. Didn't know they had a right thumb key!! I want to play more instruments. I think it's now time I'm older and well there's the 'internet now' get info like this and get to see more instruments. I reckon the more different the better! I watched a video on the Bass Oboe the otherday - very interesting!

  • the Eb key is placed right next to the F# key then i believe the D is placed on the left hand then Db is placed right next to the F key and i think they place the C on the left next to the D but im not entirely sure.

  • or as a right thumb key apparently

  • Well, you get what you pay for, so why not buy a CD with this concerto on it?

  • Maybe they already HAVE it on CD but want to experience this wonderful performance in it's entirety!?!

  • OMG! The low notes! How wonderful!

  • I play the clarinet to. I'm just an amature though. She is like totaly awesome!

  • what kind of clarinet is this? its longer than the usual ones.

  • its a basset clarinet. i think it goes like 3 or 4 notes lower than a Bb

  • Yes, could someone possibly upload this video without cutting any parts?

  • what idiot cut bits out?! thats just cheap

  • this is my favorite movement

  • I love her playing. It is so BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!

I play the clarinet too. :)(:

  • This is nice... but I really want to find a better version. Like a REALLY GOOOD one to listen to.

    Looking for some inspiration ;)

  • try Jack Brymer with Academy of St Martin in the Fields

  • Parts of the last movement were abruptly cut off! This makes the music very uncomfortable for the ear. Otherwise it's beautiful.

  • The stereo audio channels were recorded in reverse mode!

  • Comment removed

  • where did you listen to his version?

  • apparantly thats why they cut bits out of the video LOL but on the other hand you only get to say her playing is horrible when you can play 10 times better than her, That I doubt. hehe

  • a trifle affected. I had to ask where is the snake. Apparently he wasn't affected enough to show up. Better luck next time.

  • Can you say, AMAZING?!!!............."amazing!"

  • This never fails to impress and inspire me! I will practice more so that one day I will be as good as her!!...almost XD

    Sharon is truely talented!! :D

  • was it a cut at 3: 04

  • yes, (also around 3:23 & 4:06) because this movement is VERY long and requires much stamina from the performer (especially after TWO previous movments!).

  • Does that imply that the cutout parts were the parts where Ms. Kam was making mistakes?

Than either this isn't worth listening or I want to hear her make the mistakes and not get cut off.

  • she is sublime in my opinion, please watch the less edited (edited or sales reasons) version on her website (they are quicktime and require a reasonably fast computor); its not the full version because they need to sell it to you to get money. why would you be eager to hear mistakes? im certain there are none, Ms. Kam is great! :D

  • This is my favorite movement and she's done an excellent job of it.

  • Music truly is beautiful.

  • i wish i could take lessions from her. shes incredable!

  • thanks

  • i love it. she plays mozart BEAUTIFULLY, and manages to add her own taste to it. its great!

  • what clarinet is she playing, it just seems a bit longer than the average Bb

  • its a basset clarinet. im pretty sure it goes down to a low C rather than a low E on the Bb..but possibly lower than that. this concerto was actually made with for the basset clarinet, not Bb.

  • She plays on a Buffet Crampon Prestige Basset A clarinet that only goes down to a low written C. It's a beautiful instrument. She must be strong to hold it with out a neck strap because basset clarinets are heavy.

  • If you look closely you'll see she actually has a discreet neck strap. Almost impossible to get through this piece without!

  • i can't see it! ):

  • i think its just her silly little necklace...but either way, she is a beast of a clarinet player :)

  • AND to not accidently press one of the right thumb keys!!

  • The basset clarinet that she is playing on doesn't have right hand thumb keys.

  • i believe it does. (for the low C# and Eb i think)

  • This video skips over a favorite part of mine, woodwind transition. Maybe it would have been too long. Otherwise, nice performance.

  • one of my favorites too :/

  • I love how at 4:30, someone just randomly coughs! lolz

And seriously, its so amazing how she makes her low notes nice and loud for everyone to hear and her altissimo notes dont sound bad at all. aah! =PPP

  • Do you guys even play clarinet? I play Bb soprano and Bb Bass clarinet.

  • I play Bb

  • How can a Bb be a soprano? Isn't the Eb the soprano clarinet?

  • Bb is soprano and Eb is sopranino

  • And what about G (Ab)? Oktosoprapiccolonino?

  • Lol, what about D?

  • Hmm...that would be soprapiccolonino.

  • @PegasoltaEclair I believe the Bb is the soprano. There are three types of Eb, the contrabass clarinet, the alto clarinet and the Eb piccolo/sopranino clarinet, which is fairly rare.

  • Then I ask again: what would you call the G (Ab) clarinet?

  • @PegasoltaEclair I believe the Ab is also called a soprano clarinet. Soprano for clarinets is a range, like soprano for vocalists is a range as well. The clarinets in G, A Bb and even C can be considered belonging to the soprano range. The higher Eb clarinet is *sort of* a soprano, but its the high end of the range, so its called a sopranino. I have had the privilege of playing the high Eb clarinet for two years. It has its own unique tone and challenges!

  • @FuzzyConstant finding a sopranino Eb is a lot more common than an alto clarinet, because the alto clarinet has been replaced in most music by the basset horn. Also there is music for the Eb sopranino in many orchestra pieces, there isn't much contrabass clarinet music.

  • Wenn man diese Mädel gehört hat, dann will man kaum einen anderen hören. So schön!!

  • I'm a freshman music major and I have to play this for my first Seminar. I'm so excited. She'll be my inspiration for now :)

  • good luck. good inspiration. she is wonderful!

  • I wonder how she can tongue so fast... jeez! lol

  • I've seen the music for this before and I've ALWAYS wondered how she could get so low... =PPP

  • It's an A clarinet.

  • its def. not an A clarinet. its a basset clarinet- thats why it can go so low, because it's so long. the lowest note is a low c, compared to a low e with a Bb clarinet.

  • I still don't know why I said that. I meant to put basset clarinet, but got carried away with the title.

  • lol its ok :)

  • Comment removed

  • If it had a corpus, it wood be a basset horn

  • OK, understood.

  • it's an A- basset, the peice is in A, and the clarinet is basset to extend to low C to give respect to like two lines in this movement (towards the end) where most people play this on a normal clarinet, the basset allows them to take it down an octave and play in the-believed- original form

  • WOW.

All I've got to say is, this is AMAZING.

I've never actually heard someone play this before! =]

And also, What kind of clarinet is that?

    I wanna get one!!! lol

  • and it sounds way better on a basset clarinet than a Bb !

  • this is my favorite movement :)

    shes amazing!

  • Wonderful!!

  • wonderful. but wouldn't the dress hinder her breathing abilities?

  • are u saying she should stand there stark naked?

  • no. just that maybe should could get a less restricting dress

  • OK-- How in the world did she not get a standing ovation?! Are you kidding me? The audience looks like they just woke up from a nap! How rude! Her performance was fantastic! Not only that, but after playing all 3 movements, she must be exhausted...

  • I'm assuming because it is a made-for-TV production (i.e. extra's sitting in the audience for show) without having any clue how spectacular it actually was.

Sharon's bowing with her head up!! What is that??!? lol. They always said Sharon was all music, no show. I saw her live once in a horrid 2 tone dress. Bright red cinderella puffed out poodle type skirt with a velvet black tube top. So ugly. She looks abso stunning in this lavender.

    Luv sharon! hate the murzic!

  • A very bright and Romantic interpretation! Perfect for my tastes!
