douchie22 - Take a close look at the original Mertz score. If you go to bar 22 of the cantabile section, you will not see - as you say it - any "rest" in the melodic triplet where this occurs (2:50).

So it's Tatyana - and not the composer - who's created that little bit of magic here. And if you've been around music as long as I have, you'll immediately realise that she is simply the most wonderful interpreter - way, way ahead of her years.

douchie22 - No, it's more than just a rest. It's even more than the "fermata" she employs at 2:32. She has actually stopped the flow of the music, and the effect is dramatic.

So, if you want to call today "the 4th of July", that's your choice. But to everybody else, it isn't the 4th of July.
