Also - while it is true that Steve Hackett was innovatively finger-tapping on Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, he was also doing so on the album before in "Supper's Ready" and two albums previous in "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed" - two years earlier.
Could have done his research. Brian Eno didn't produce "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". Genesis and Eno were working in adjacent studios. Eno merely added some effects here and there in return for Phil Collins to do some drumming for him. Tony Banks questioned whether Eno even deserved an album credit. It was produced by John Burns and the band themselves.
Thank you for posting this! As a life-long Genesis fan, yet embarrassed by much of their 80's hits (and Phil Collins') it was so amazing to hear a respected musician such as Trey say something that I've felt for 25 years (shit, has it really been that long!) Nearly wept by the end. Thank you TREY. Love Phish too! If you're not familiar with the song "Stagnation" that Trey mentioned, check out the YouTube video I made for my THE DAILY VINYL project: watch?v=2NIgfLCn9js. Cheers!
I think the pretentious pusses on all of their stuck up faces is making trey a little nervous here haha...I love genesis but calm down guys...you're musicians...in the middle ages we were nothing more than lowly freakshow calibre entertainment...and btw Trey might be one of the top 3 guitarists of all time...
"I'm guessing that most people in this room have never listened to Selling England by the Pound. You cannot buy a greatest hits album and understand what I'm talking about. But there are so many people who I am speaking for tonight who know EXACTLY what I'm talking about."
-That's a great line and so true for us early Genesis fans. He said it exactly how it needed to be said. Good job!
So which version of Genesis is being inducted? Trey Anastasio runs on and on about how great the original band was, but the inductees don't include founding member Peter Gabriel. What bullshit!
@Hagelmiester5673 - Good! Then he wasn't overlooked by the "academy." Getting him into the HOF is also good news for bands like Yes, which have been consistently overlooked for years and years.

SEBTP - One helluva album and Trey's right on about how their induction speaks to those of us who have always known what a great band Genesis was in those early years. Great speech Trey....you can tell it comes from the heart!
