While The Second Sex is a seminal text for feminist theory, I suggest reading The Woman Destroyed--it's a series of fictional short stories, and it's much easier to read than The Second Sex or Ethics on Ambiguity. I read The Woman Destroyed (La Femme Rompue) at least once a year! It's dark, but the themes within are so strong!
