@socrates4999 just heard gregory portman at smoke with eric alexander and harold mabern. gregory is alot like johnny; he plays every thurs nite upper west side. if you get a chance catch the gig. he's unbelievable...

22 people are retarded fucks that listen to that mainstream bullshit like skillrex, rihanna, eminem, kanye west, katy perry, chris brown, U2, or whatev's those 22 people listen to.... it's all shit in comparsion to this majestic piece of art.
Phew, and I thought that Sting was the only person that can do such marvel justice. Apparently, I was wrong, for it is these two that bring the spirit of this wonder a fresh glimmer of seductive light!...
When I hear those opening notes I fall into such a lovely state of happiness and warmth. This is an absolutely beautifully played piece, and with wonderful words too... I just can't get over how heartrendingly astounding this song is.
Esta canción la puedo escuchar una y mil veces... Coltrane y Hartman el único vocal que puede grabar con Coltrane.. me recuerda esta canción en esas ocasiones en que extrañas a alguien que no podrás ver nunca jamas..
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
Un des morceaux que j'ai écouté le plus souvent de ma vie...Deux grands grands musiciens, une mélodie superbe. I miss so very very much musicians like Coltrane, Monk, Baker, Hartman. Eckstein and many others of that time...
The late great Frankie Crocker played this on WBLS back in the day. Only Frankie would play jazz, rock, gospel and r&b all mixed together. Even as a child I thought it was the most romantic song I had ever heard.
It's just so beautiful. I'm thinking about putting together a date with my girl and I'm going to have this music playing. It will make everything perfect.
For Tivoreece: I was into jazz at 16, even though my friends were into rock. Rock, top forty is essentially for young people: teens and under twenty-five year olds.
Classical, jazz, ballads, folk music, are the upper echelons of music. Tell your critical friends that you're an aesthete, one who loves quality music: "many are called, but few are chose."
@rofflemows2 those crooning vocals? if you're headed to a deserted island I recommend you take this album with you. When that mermaid washes up on shore you'll thank them.
Johnny Hartman was a very unappreciated artist. He came on the scene in the 50s and 60s and did not get the exposure, opportunities to showcase his great talent.
@bad1y2k True, Hartman was a great vocalist and Trane didn't sacrifice his talent in this album. But it wasn't really where Coltrane was at during this point of his career. If you listen to the interview that Trane gave to Frank Kofsky (I'm pretty sure it's still up on Youtube), it doesn't sound like he was really enthusiastic about this album. It seemed more like he was pressured into recording some safe music by his record label, who was frightened by his foray into free jazz.
@bad1y2k You're right, both Trane and Hartman were unwilling to do this album at first. Soon after he signed to Impulse!, the brass "suggested" that he release a string of themed albums. A live album (Live! at the Village Vanguard), one with another bandleader (Duke Ellington & John Coltrane), an album of ballads (Ballads) and one with a vocalist (Coltrane & Hartman). Trane was unwilling because he wanted to explore music. Hartman was reluctant because never considered himself a jazz singer...
Ooooooh-weeeee! This is classy. I knew about the 'Trane but now I have to try and find me some Johnny Hartman. I could listen to this over and over again a thousand times. Have mercy!
I love this, and I love the jazz singers and crooners from that era. With that being said I must also say, there isn't ANY version of this song that even comes close....NONE, and there are some legends that have covered this song. Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane own this one forever.
i used to really not like this song at all, but after listening to it because i had to sing it in a show it has become one of my favorite songs and i now love to sing it, so amazing how we change.
You don't need to knock anyone else to affirm what you like. This is a classic. I tell young people all the time (I'm past 50 now) that if they could get a copy of their grandfather's love letters to their grandmother, it would blow their minds. Our culture needs to learn that love and sex are not the same.
Ahh such memories. The first time I heard this song I was 19 and was being seduced by at 30 something year old woman in an apartment on Riverside Drive in Manhattan. Ahh such memories.
Oh, this is so heartfelt this great music by the masters! The best music ever is jazz. It is intelligent music; poignant, touches the soul. The best of the best.
I've had this cd for many years and this song never fails to move me. Trane and the great under-rated superb jazz vocalist Johnny Hartman. What a combination! Love you Mr. Hartman!!

@tivoreece Don't be discouraged. They just don't understand it.
It takes a certain amount of patience and independence for a young adult to be able to sit down and enjoy a jazz album considering what popular music is like today. Which is a shame.
@tivoreece GOOD FOR YOU..no one knows your 'soul' but you. I am impressed. Take a listen to Steven Rossitto singing this song..he is 16 years old. Fantastic!

@tivoreece Don't be discouraged. They just don't understand it.
It takes a certain amount of patience and independence for a young adult to be able to sit down and enjoy a jazz album considering what popular music is like today. Which is a shame.
But damn, this music is good.

@tivoreece GOOD FOR YOU..no one knows your 'soul' but you. I am impressed. Take a listen to Steven Rossitto singing this song..he is 16 years old. Fantastic!

@tivoreece I'm 50 now, I've been listening to jazz since I was 18. No regrets! Keep on, keeping on.

Listening to something like that is beautiful but also painful cause it makes me even more sure that now the music is dead.

A honey sax, a velvet voice, and a perfect tempo. If my daughters ever get married, I've told them that either the music for the bride - groom dance will be this or else I will not attend.
Easily one of the 10 greatest love songs.
