  • Loved this! Nobody could sing this like Hartman! Thanks!

  • where did the magic go?

  • 22 people do not have a soul. Such a beautiful song. There will never be another Coltrane.

  • Phew, and I thought that Sting was the only person that can do such marvel justice. Apparently, I was wrong, for it is these two that bring the spirit of this wonder a fresh glimmer of seductive light!...

  • simply beautiful

  • ok.....so who the hell is robben ford & the blue line??? / why artist?

  • @deanofranksammy robben ford is a great jazz/blues guitarst...don't pass judgements on artists before you've actually heard them.

  • Bill Clinton brought me here.;))...love Coltrane.....sublime to my ears..;))

  • Bill Clinton brought me here

  • "Esquire magazine even chose his collaboration with Coltrane as the greatest album ever made"

  • 友人に教えてもらって、聴きました。心に沁みる歌、そして甘い声ですね!

  • When I hear those opening notes I fall into such a lovely state of happiness and warmth. This is an absolutely beautifully played piece, and with wonderful words too... I just can't get over how heartrendingly astounding this song is.

  • John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman, - The best combination since Heart & Soul!

  • Esta canción la puedo escuchar una y mil veces... Coltrane y Hartman el único vocal que puede grabar con Coltrane.. me recuerda esta canción en esas ocasiones en que extrañas a alguien que no podrás ver nunca jamas..

  • fabolous. This is the song that I play, When thinking of the death of my most beloved woman on eart. Who died way too soon.

  • Patinha, querida companheirinha, linda criatura,

sinta que coisa boa, novamente Coltrane & Hartman.

Você tinha um aninho de idade quando gravaram isto...

    Estupendo!

    Beijo,

    Stélio

  • this is by far the best rendition of this song...both these men were great

  • Johnny Hartman should be even more famous than Coltrane. Absolutely sublime voice.

  • Johnny Hartman.... THE most under rated vocalist.

  • whose song is this?

  • Now that's what I call an intro!

  • what a sexy voice...

  • Comment removed

  • just superb

  • Un des morceaux que j'ai écouté le plus souvent de ma vie...Deux grands grands musiciens, une mélodie superbe. I miss so very very much musicians like Coltrane, Monk, Baker, Hartman. Eckstein and many others of that time...

  • The late great Frankie Crocker played this on WBLS back in the day. Only Frankie would play jazz, rock, gospel and r&b all mixed together. Even as a child I thought it was the most romantic song I had ever heard.

  • 1:00-1:31 made me bounce around while I was doing my homework..... haha

  • Your're right badly2k. Thanks.

  • It's just so beautiful. I'm thinking about putting together a date with my girl and I'm going to have this music playing. It will make everything perfect.

  • the only reason I will watch bridges at madison county and of course Clint Eastwood

  • coltrane and hartman are magical

  • classic jazz

  • My girlfriend found this song today and wants me to sing it for her as my recital. Thank you savant624! Definitely practicing ASAP. = )

  • For Tivoreece: I was into jazz at 16, even though my friends were into rock. Rock, top forty is essentially for young people: teens and under twenty-five year olds.

Classical, jazz, ballads, folk music, are the upper echelons of music. Tell your critical friends that you're an aesthete, one who loves quality music: "many are called, but few are chose."

  • @MrRickywallace Try it this way: Many are called but the chosen are few.

  • good tune, love Coltrane, but i dunno about the crooning vocals so much XD

  • @rofflemows2 those crooning vocals? if you're headed to a deserted island I recommend you take this album with you. When that mermaid washes up on shore you'll thank them.

  • Johnny Hartman was a very unappreciated artist. He came on the scene in the 50s and 60s and did not get the exposure, opportunities to showcase his great talent.

  • I just accidentally played this twice on two different browsers with a five second delay and it was really cool.

  • Jazz listeners do not care about friends opinions! enjoy

  • I am confused as to why this video has not reached at least 1 million views.

  • @HeaphonesAndHeart It just goes to show you that all that is classy is lost in todays pop culture...which will not stand the test of time.

  • This song makes me want to love..... wish someone loved me like this....

Jazzzzzzz..... I will not give up.....

  • To show you just how good Hartman was; he was the ONLY vocalist to record with Coltrane.

  • @bad1y2k True, Hartman was a great vocalist and Trane didn't sacrifice his talent in this album. But it wasn't really where Coltrane was at during this point of his career. If you listen to the interview that Trane gave to Frank Kofsky (I'm pretty sure it's still up on Youtube), it doesn't sound like he was really enthusiastic about this album. It seemed more like he was pressured into recording some safe music by his record label, who was frightened by his foray into free jazz.

  • @bad1y2k You're right, both Trane and Hartman were unwilling to do this album at first. Soon after he signed to Impulse!, the brass "suggested" that he release a string of themed albums. A live album (Live! at the Village Vanguard), one with another bandleader (Duke Ellington & John Coltrane), an album of ballads (Ballads) and one with a vocalist (Coltrane & Hartman). Trane was unwilling because he wanted to explore music. Hartman was reluctant because never considered himself a jazz singer...

  • @bad1y2k I just posted this on facebook. I saw him sing in NY clubs at least four times and even got his autograph on a record once.

  • @guy11976 Needless to say I am VERY envious of you and your autograph. :) I got kissed by Ms Miriam Makeba in Boston.

  • @bad1y2k woot woot

  • Maravilhoso. Incrivel, sem dúvidas.

  • Ooooooh-weeeee! This is classy. I knew about the 'Trane but now I have to try and find me some Johnny Hartman. I could listen to this over and over again a thousand times. Have mercy!

  • Cold case...

  • Nancy Wilson's version is actually better.

  • If I'm not mistaken, this song was recorded in ONE take. Guess that's what you can do when you're at the top of your craft.

  • If I'm not mistaken, this song was recorded in ONE take. Guess that's what you can do when you're at the top of your craft.

  • Mystical, magical, perfection.

  • I love this, and I love the jazz singers and crooners from that era. With that being said I must also say, there isn't ANY version of this song that even comes close....NONE, and there are some legends that have covered this song. Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane own this one forever.

  • I'm so grateful I can still listen to such beautiful music and such a beautiful voice. Thank you for uploading the song.

  • i used to really not like this song at all, but after listening to it because i had to sing it in a show it has become one of my favorite songs and i now love to sing it, so amazing how we change.

  • open rainymood(dot)com in another tab for maximum musical sexiness

  • Extraordinary, dear god. The world melts away when these greats are together.

  • This song is the most beautiful and great love song of all times. Nowdays song are only cheap love cliches and sex.

  • You don't need to knock anyone else to affirm what you like. This is a classic. I tell young people all the time (I'm past 50 now) that if they could get a copy of their grandfather's love letters to their grandmother, it would blow their minds. Our culture needs to learn that love and sex are not the same.

  • Stop making reference to fucking justin bieber or lil wayne. Thanks.

That aside, this is definitely my favorite version of this song. Beautiful.

  • @yootoobdotcomlol Quite,it seems that every joint i put on,of any genre,people mention those 2 unspeakable individuals.

  • Suck on this Justin Bieber.

  • i have been listening to jazz since i was 12 love it!

  • OMG! I'm m-e-l-t-i-n-g.....

  • @tivoreece yea man im 16 and jazz is the music of the deepest and thoughtful people....its pure musical thought.

  • Ahh such memories. The first time I heard this song I was 19 and was being seduced by at 30 something year old woman in an apartment on Riverside Drive in Manhattan. Ahh such memories.

  • Hey tivoreece .

To love this music is a blessing, an endless joy . Don't let people cut your wings.

  • this is the very best interpretation of this song...love it..!!..RIP johnny hartman

  • wow this is beauty..

  • Oh, this is so heartfelt this great music by the masters! The best music ever is jazz. It is intelligent music; poignant, touches the soul. The best of the best.

  • "every kiss you give sets my soul on fire"*****

  • I absolutely LOVE this!

  • wow...

  • respect in this big musician , john coltrane

and in this huge voice of johnny hartman

  • Thanks for posting this. Truly sublime, amazing. Get the whole album! I've had the tape for years. My favorite bedtime music.

  • does anyone know where i can get the score for this album? i must learn how to play these songs.

  • that you are my own . . . . awwww bless.

  • My all time favorite song....

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever recorded...Coltrane and Hartman = perfection.

  • I've had this cd for many years and this song never fails to move me. Trane and the great under-rated superb jazz vocalist Johnny Hartman. What a combination! Love you Mr. Hartman!!

  • Oufa! What a voice! This is singing. This is TALENT. Amazing.

  • how can someone dislike something so beautiful, so timeless! I don't understand people sometimes.

  • My wife & I danced to this song at our wedding in '78. Had a band do a pretty representative job with it too....sax and all

  • I'm 18, and alot of my friends have tried to make me feel lame & dumb for listening to jazz. It doesn't work because jazz to me, is MUSIC AT ITS FINEST!!!!

  • @tivoreece Don't let your friends make you feel that way. You obviously have a more developed "ear" than they do. Enjoy this wonderful music called jazz. There is a style for every mood. This music is timeless -- it still sounds awesome and fresh omore than 40 years later!

  • @tivoreece i feel dawg...ppl are the same way towards me...but i have to appreciate real music played by the finest

  • @tivoreece Well, tell your friends it's OK to watch Oprah. Or to listen to Nirvana. Or Rihanna (whatever her name is). To each his own. You like what you like. And they're happy with the crap that they enjoy. The only thing you can do is ignore the ignorants.

  • @tivoreece i know what u mean..jazz is for the musically blessed..trust me :D we're blessed

  • @tivoreece get new friends, ignorance is intolerable

  • @tivoreece yeah...don't listen to those fuckers...if you like jazz....you like jazz

  • @tivoreece pure expression

  • @tivoreece Jazz is the greatest American music ever. The most sophisticated, soulful and spiritual. It is Americas greatest contribution to the music of the world. If you have the sensitivity to feel and understand it, congratulations to you. Ignore your friends and find some friends that appreciate jazz. Eventually some of your friends will like it themselves when they become more mature...

  • @tivoreece You're one lucky dude to have seen the true light. I was 15 when i started listening to this 'real' music while my close friends were into black sabbath and led zeppelin. We're all in our late forties now and into smooth, acid, fusion and what have you jazz. I had a decade of head start. Bet you have a beautiful soul as most jazz listeners do.

  • @tivoreece Go head youngin'. That's very encouraging to hear man. Kudos to you for wrapping your mind around something enlightening and beautiful and pure. I'm 55 and I've been listening to jazz music since I was 4 years old and it's my first musical love...and it always will be. Jazz music is the ONLY truly American artform.

Continue to listen to Jazz...don't allow it to die.

  • @tivoreece Get new friends.

  • @tivoreece

There is nothing wrong with you. Jazz chooses you. You are one of the few that gets it. Keep smiling and listen to your own compass. You'll be fine.

    Best Regards, Dr.Martin

  • @tivoreece your friends are the douchebags and morons for not being able to appreciate jazz, a musical form when played and appreciated at its finest, speaks to and directs our souls. I applaud you for being on the young side and appreciating good music. And Im 7'2" and 550 lbs. You call me if they get too retarded with their heckling, we'll solve that real quick. haha.

  • @tivoreece

You are right on target, son. Let your sub gifted friends laugh how much they want.....

  • @tivoreece Keep listening, brother. This is some of the finest music ever made, and you're better for being able to enjoy it.

  • @SuscioNegro For sure...I've been listening since I was thirteen....It's the best..That's why Esperanza Spaulding won the grammy over Drake and Justin Bieber...People want to listen to real music.

  • @tivoreece who cares about what friends think

and it will score you points with the ladies

  • @tivoreece

You're on the right way, there are rare and beautiful things on life that give us a kind of magic and energy, Coltrane was one of them, so enjoy... This is one of my favorite records Coltrane & Hartman, try Coltrane Ballads, you'll feel this magic again.

  • @tivoreece

Be glad, that you get it!

  • @tivoreece Don't be discouraged. They just don't understand it.

It takes a certain amount of patience and independence for a young adult to be able to sit down and enjoy a jazz album considering what popular music is like today. Which is a shame.

But damn, this music is good.

  • @tivoreece GOOD FOR YOU..no one knows your 'soul' but you. I am impressed. Take a listen to Steven Rossitto singing this song..he is 16 years old. Fantastic!

  • @tivoreece jazz is collective outpouring of universal human emotions. there's NOTHING better =D

  • @tivoreece I'm 50 now, I've been listening to jazz since I was 18. No regrets! Keep on, keeping on.

  • Listening to something like that is beautiful but also painful cause it makes me even more sure that now the music is dead.

  • Gorgeous little cadenza at the end...

  • Song for my first dance.... got the ring, the dress, the place and now the song now all i need is the man haha

  • its so so so so so so so so so so good

  • this is so tender & cool. very good rendition. many good versions on tap but this is special. thankyou SAVANT624.

  • Still one of the greatest albums ever made, regardless of genre. A masterpiece.

  • As good as it gets. TY.

  • A honey sax, a velvet voice, and a perfect tempo. If my daughters ever get married, I've told them that either the music for the bride - groom dance will be this or else I will not attend.

Easily one of the 10 greatest love songs.

  • Reminds me of my Father & always will...

  • Two giants.

  • best ballad after blue in green and ¨say it¨

  • Wow 18 people are walking around dead!

  • It doesn't get any better than Coltrane and Johnny Hartman

  • Wow, I guess we do have a purpose on the planet!

  • @cosmo2631 One of the greatest torch songs of all time!

  • If you dislike this song then fuck you.
