really good AMV :D , people who usually use avatar for an AMV only use a selected few episodes but from what i've seen you've used a whole heap and didn't repeat any of the seens which along with how u lined up the song with the series made it alot better then what most people could of done.

This is very good, but next time try and use a couple of effects next time - flashes or posterize work well if you have windows movie maker, and if you have anything else i'm a little disappointed. I mean, its a nice vid, but it needs a little more punch.

overall, 4/5 because i really do like it.

I agree that it needs more, but I disagree with what you think it needs. The video doesn't follow the premise of the song--breaking through when all is hopeless. Avatar is rich in this idea, so the show overlaps with the song well, but the AMV didn't do enough to focus on that. Rather than effects (though rhythm would help keep the video interesting), the editor should choose clips that visualize the Gaang's struggles. A good AMV is one that someone who's never seen the show could understand.

While I'm at it, I should go ahead and mention another AMV pet peeve of mine: Literal interpretation of the songs. Take, for example these sections of the AMV:

0:28 - "fall"

0:33 - "sinking"

0:39 - "cold"

The editor put of videos that highlighted the denotative understanding of the word, but if you listen to the song, these words are used to describe /emotional/ states, not physical ones. Good AMV makers don't necessarily have 1337 editing ability. They take the time first to analyze the song, then make a video that embraces the metaphors and meaning of the song, telling a story in the process.

Well, I thought that the message of the video was clear, even if it wasn't communicated in the best way. Videos could always be better, and I'm certainly not the one to be criticizing others for message ^_^

No, songs shouldn't always be taken literally, but sometimes that's the easiest way to make the video. I noticed that you, sitylites, don't have any videos, so (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) I don't think you really can make the call of what can be put into a video.
