  • Stop talking shit. Metal and music in general isn't playing double bass pedals faster than a speed of light -.- He playing drums with more feeling than most of drumers that are beasts. He has that groovy beats that is his signature. He's great and he had influence on more drumers than anyone else... End of story!

  • whats wrong with it i don't understand why ppl r yelling at each other

  • Where does he use double bass???????????!!!!!!NOWHERE IN THIS SONG!

  • @sokinikos23

Listento Dyers Eve Studio Version. Only like 3 peoplecan play it.and listento thewhole thing

  • jea lars doesnt do double bass on that vid ... it prooves nutin ... jus a drummer nutin special except he plays metalica... good music n a good guitar player !!!! but lars ?!?? good drumming ???

  • i love metalica but is lars the best drummer or double bass player !?!?!? well reality is different ... i post u an example how 2 play double bass WATCH george kollias ........

  • He is hated for Napster thing - nothing more - he always was the best drummer with every drum roll sounding different and great beats - also when he does double bass he makes it special because it is supper fast he doesn't do slow double bass ever

  • absolutly not, if you listen the bass drum is pretty easy to listen...you can ear the punch

  • I dont know why he is not using the Heel toe technic ?? i mean it took me 3 months to get it correctly, and you can easily go triplets like on dyers eve, battery, even angel of death or among the living .. he should try

  • @arrackattack he is using it dude ...he is doing most of this only with his right foot

  • @SirotaKurcina what you can see at 1:17 looks more like the slide technic, the heel toe is easier to play, because you save your stamina during the double bass triplets !

  • what album is this song on?

  • @MrNorsuhuuli And Justice for All bro. SIck album

  • he sux ....they need a better drum performer to come back to their roots!!

  • @locoflaw just for clarification... you do know that Lars is one of two original members of Metallica, correct? That being said, he is part of their roots.

  • @1ChOwSkI1 I LOVE Metallica! And Lars BELONG there. It´s where he´s able to express he´s uniqueness as a drummer. He sounds to me, like he is "at home" there. AND awsome!!! And believe you me... NO one is perfect ALL the time...

  • @locoflaw he is their roots dumbass! no lars, no metallica plan and simple

  • @locoflaw Well as i can see an expert to criticize Lars (laughing)... why you not go and play instead of Lars and do also what Lars do for 30+ years? Btw I bet you are not even capable to hit a snare lolz and they only one that seems to sux is you...Go go Larzzz old school for the win!!!!! HAIL METALLICA!!!!! HAIL METAL!!!!!

  • c'mon guys, he's nearly 50 years old for god's sake! i woukd love to see some of you guys doing this when you're 50...

  • @elmotouchesme97 You're offending all great old drummers, age is no excuse, especially when u're in biggest band in history

  • @SSSoM3 no, what i'm saying is that bad joints come with age for many people... i'm guessing that's what has happened with lars. If playing double bass puts him in sheer agony, then yes, age is a reasonable excuse, even if he's in the biggest band in history.

  • To the author of the video: I don't think you understand. Lars Ulrich can drum quadruplets. Haven't you heard and justice for all? Quadriplets with one foot. Double bass is pussy shit compared to what Lars Ulrich can do

  • @werbnnerf Exactly what I mean.

  • @werbnnerf he doesn't do them with one foot on ajfa

  • @werbnnerf Hah. The day Lars learns how to count and not be sloppy is the day I'll agree with you. Wanna see some nuts bass drum playing? Go watch Zach Hill or any one of the thousands of amazing Gospelchops drummers. Lars is just boring, a bad drummer, and a shitty person. Can we all just stop talking about him?

  • @Baekmagoji Screw that, Meshuggah.

  • @Baekmagoji

It's not all about double bass pedal. Those drummers you just named. I bet they use those beginner pedals that when you hit it once it makes a triplet. Lars uses the pedals where you atually have to put muscle into it. Listen to Dyers Eve studii Version. He was 20 back then. He FIFTY now.So shut up, reformat your computer, and go listen to country

  • I saw this song performed BEFORE the album was released in the later 80's in Cleveland Coll. Lars absolutely BLEW everyone away when he played it correctly. It was FAST and spot on. Back then,,,fast double bass wasn't as common. Honestly, it was impressive to hear then. >THEN<

  • Bwahahahaha double bass? Sure thing buddy

  • I don't think the objection was that he doesn't play double bass, it was that he doesn't play double bass very well.

  • @georgekolo Dyers Eve

  • Okay, so, since when has "Double-bass" mean going fast? I have always believed that who ever can do double bass was a badass because you can use both your feet for the rhythm, and now its just about doing it fast..... freaking Death Metal and their shitty drummers have made fast double bass the "norm" to be good

  • Fuck the double bass, give me the song name

  • @georgekolo read the title man, dyers eve

  • @noediebroedie Thank you dude :)

  • @georgekolo You´re welcome :)

  • 1:17? are you shitting me you who made the video need glasses

  • ...yeahhhh.... 1:17

  • i think the important thing to notice is that james is rocking hard here.... he sounds great on this show!

  • and the lil box you keep posting through out the vid is on his MAIN foot, not his secondary foot which would be used to play double bass. ;)

  • he isnt playing it the same here as he did on the Justice cd.

  • He isnt the best drummer but for me i really like the ulrich style, he hasnt technique but have the most important in the music industry "feeling"

  • Being a drummer is more than a fuckin´double bass, it´s about creativity, and Lars is the best creatin' songs. So fuck it assholes, Lars is God, period.

  • what is double bass can somebody tell me im not much intro drums

  • Where is double bass ?

  • all right, lars was one of the best drummers in and justice era... but now he sucks.

    thats true

  • Gotta give props to these guys for steping it up and playing this (close) to proper! What cracks me up is how Lars seems to be concentrating so hard on what he's playing! To contrast, look how care free and how much fun Jamez is having!

  • what the fuck is this shit

  • when is db??

  • and I don't want to troll or something but this video actually proofs that that he doenst do the full length notes of the double bass, listen to the freaking chorus in the studio version and this one he's practically doing the same drumbeat throught the whole song here except a few seconds after the solo, you have to be deaf not to here that.

  • @TwiGGSTicK he does not use the double base in this songs, but he uses it on other and justice songs like the shortest straw, and in this show he kinda made up for using double bass in this song, becuase he does it extra fast on fight fire with fire

  • He is really the God of Drums! The is till today the FASTEST EVER written Drumpart Song! There he play faster, than the human ear can hear the Base! But on this video he play only the half speed, because, he hate this song for the extremly speed and now he´s too old for ist! Doesn´t matter, so long there´s no other Drummer on this Planet who can cover or copy this Song originally, he is and stays the G.o.D.

  • @MasterOnPiano If Lars Ulrich is the god of drums then Dave Lombardo and Charlie Benante are like über-gods because they are like 20 times as fast then him. and don't forget all those other drummers: Gar Samuelson (rip), Nick Menza, Andy Galeon, Jimmy Degrasso, that Joey Jordison dude (and I don't like slipkont) and I can go on on drummers who are better (as in more thechnical and good live) but this is how I feel about your opinion here.....

    He Isn't, He wasn't, And he'll never

  • BEST DRUMMER EVER!!!! :D

  • There's more to life than being able to slam double bass down peoples' throats. Too much double bass also detracts from a song.

  • I bet Robert feels at home. Where is he from anyway?

  • PATETIC ENDING !!

  • @CLASICHEAVYMETAL shut your mouth!

  • comeone lars give me a perfect number with dubble bass please

  • James has an great voice on this song ! \\m//

  • All these old comments are such bullshit. Youre just scared to admit hes gotten lazy. He has time, money, and fans so why would he need to keep pushing himself? Its not that hard to kick with your legs.

  • there are certainly better drummer, but he's just lars ulrich. He is metallica and go!!!!!!! He said yes, never that he is the best. But with one of the most successful security

  • he is NOT playing double bass in this song!... he never used it! (only before hitting the crash, or in parts like 4:06, and in 3:41) ... He always uses his left leg to stay with the rhythm (he does that in every song! even songs without any DB in it like nothing else matters)... however there are other songs in this DVD in which he really uses double bass and kick ass, as in ...And Justice For All, Fight Fire, and specially Trapped Under Ice! \m/

  • @luisdamien85: search for "METALLICA - TRAPPED UNDER ICE - ORGULLO PASION Y GLORIA HQ" is awesome in Double BAss!

  • Lars is old he can't play as fast when he was younger... \m/

  • Watch Fight Fire With Fire from the same DVD. The double bass there is more kickass.

  • @Charization just at near ending not after kirk's solo like the original version

  • BEST BAND EVER! M3T4LLIC4 FTW!

  • @TorixVadumee Yaaaay numbers -.-

  • yes, the normal, but, the notes 16th notes, he doens't played, its so easy to take 30 minutes per day and practice this, he have money, have time, have all, WHY HE DON'T PRACTICE?

  • @LobnhoZ2 You're acting as if you actually know Lars and his practicing habits.

  • @IsaacDeanMusic and i do'nt know him, and he doens't have practing habits, the video is showing this, that he don't practice at all

  • @LobnhoZ2 I take it English isn't your first language. I'm willing to bet that he practices a lot so he can play most of the back catalogue of the many Metallica songs there are at live shows. There's nothing wrong this performance at all.

  • the "double bass" here can be played with one foot

  • @MegaNakki69 thats because he is just bad... just listen how he's struggling with it god damn thats not professional thats just bad especially for a drummer of a band which has so much reputation...

  • @MegaNakki69 sorry but In 1:17 you can see that Lars is playing this with one pedal.

  • @Raver3run yeah maybe but the guy who put this video up calls it double bass

  • Comment removed

  • @Raver3run you can only see one pedal on that bass drum because he has 2 bass drums lol

  • @josshlegg But you can see that he is doing two notes at time lol. He is starting to use double something about half of song.

  • Comment removed

  • METALLICAAAAAAAAAAAAAA i love you

  • im here for the song u guys to?

  • Lars is the best Drummer in the world :D James the best Singer and Rythim Guitarist :D Cliff Burton was the best Bass player....Robert is okey ;) Kirk Hammet is the best lead Guitarist :D

  • nice video, nice song.

ps. i wonder how lars still can't play drums well with so many years of practise :/

  • he plays double bass at the album speed in fight fire with fire( live in mexico) in the middle seccion of the song. There is double bass drum my friend.

  • I love lars !! its my biggest influence, but in dyers eve played in mexico city( i was there and own the dvd) he only play sincopated bass drum, the real drum riff go at 16 notes per bar!

I respect him! he developed this way of playing metal! metallica rules!

  • I would love to see one of u doing this at that age.. play the entire song like the album and then continue a concert....

  • well people ,there is double bass ! i just listened to it again and again, with stereo headphones, it is fucking there !

  • fuck on this double bass, dyers eve is awesome with db and without !

  • i just listened to the "drum track" of this, and theres no continuous double bass. it sounds just like this....??? i dont see the argument here

  • a decent drummer should do this with a single pedal

  • @GroundGrinderRec show me how you doing this :)

  • @MrSuchy945 i've just made a video showing a technique(well known heel-toe) for playing this.but i just never said that I could play it..i said a decent drummer should,and i'm not considering myself one yet.peace!bye!

  • @GroundGrinderRec no sir ! are u mad ?

  • @GroundGrinderRec you do not

  • @hhhuor never said I do..

  • @GroundGrinderRec then don't rate better

  • @GroundGrinderRec Yep but this bum isn't anything close to decent.

  • I think there isn't double bass in this performance, but I think Lars is a great drummer, not everybody that plays drums have his skills. Mike Portnoy and Mike Mangini are a very great drummers. They are in another level of creation and skills on drums. But still I thinks Lars plays very well.

  • all i hear is pure slop, as usual

  • its not constant like it is on the record....which he makes a mistake on if you listen, Starting one verse he misses the very start of it. Altho i think lars is cool !

  • bass drum paterns a lot more interestin to listen to than that death metal type shit thats goin on in most metal bands now as well as hearin it you feel it which is more important

  • idiots this kind of double bass is ten times harder than ordinary ''better'' double bass

  • @hhhuor lol, no.

  • Let´s make something clear, maybe he hasnt had the best drum skills, but what i admire of him, its how when he starts working with james at the studio makes the best albums of metal

  • @richardmap Clearly you don't know about Dave Mustaine. Do some research into Dave and Megadeth. You may learn a few things.

  • Having said that Mike Mangini is same age and 1000x faster (literally look him up).

  • @jesusmouth Omg his drum solo at the San Diego DT concert made me think "Mike Portnoy who?" ... though i still think MP is still one of the greatest if not the greatest drummers out there... Mike Mangini is up there with him!

  • @masteropuppetz66 mike mangini by far surpasses anything this ass clown can even dream of thinking about doing....portnoy is surely better then lars but that please don't compare a true drummer to a shitty one thanks

  • @spacegaiden lol I wasn't comparing Lars to Mangini or Portnoy. I was comparing Mangini to Portnoy in Dream Theater. Yes, it is absolutely correct to say that Portnoy and Mangini are in a different universe than Lars. Hell, a 15 year old drummer who has been playing for a year is better than Lars LOL

  • @masteropuppetz66 Lars is the WORST. Manginini is ONE OF the BEST. Portnoy is in the upper echelons of mediocreville. Can we agree on this scale? hahah

  • @spacegaiden Mike Portnoy isn't in mediocreville. I don't know where you even begin to come up with assessment, unless you are just a Mangini fanboy lol. Mike P is definitely one of the best drummers out there. His work speaks for itself, as well as the dozen or so Drummer of the Year awards (i think he had like 8 in a row at one point) as well as being the youngest inductee ever into the modern drummer hall of fame.

  • @masteropuppetz66 Well it is simply my opinion. Drummer of the Year awards sounds cool, but sorry he just is not all that great to me *shrug* no big deal. Sounds like YOU are the fanboi here.....and I am familiar enough with Portnoy's work to have formed my own personal opinion. Sorry if it upsets you....Portnoy IS good....but he is NOWHERE NEAR the best. not even close....

  • @spacegaiden Ok, list your top 10 drummers (or even top 5) so I know where you are coming from. Portnoy is not as technically proficient as Mangini or other drummers, but he is still really technically gifted. However, I believe his track writing is what makes him one of the best. He really writes some cool, innovative and unique drum tracks. Take the song Blind Faith, an amazing drum track! .. and lets not forget his drumming on SFAM

  • @spacegaiden And i was talking about Mangini's San Diego Dream Theater concert drum solo this past December, NOT the Live Shit San Diego Lars drum solo in case you thought that lol

  • @masteropuppetz66 I will check out this Drum solo of Mangini....there are MANY more of him though from WAY before Dream Theater.

  • He does what he does better than anyone else, he can play fast double kick but not for long. He's alright.

  • This is just proof that he's worse at double bass than me, and I've been playing for 2 years.

  • He was his best in the 80's when he could actually do all the fills and double bass parts

  • so hard to play

  • I love how everyone seems to think lars sucks etc., sure he may not be amazing compared to the drummers of today, but they had had him as a role model to learn from. he's still better than 99% of the morons who comment on his videos and say he sucks . same with jimi hendrix, there are guitarists today who could slaughter jimi, but how many of them had jimi as a role model as well. shit evolves because of the greats that came before and innovated. get your head out of your asses people.

  • I'm not a drummer and I've stopped the video. Jesus christ that's some amateur-playing drumming. I'm sorry it is. I just came from Derek Roddy and Navene Koperweis.

  • lol whats with the knee shot? 2:19

  • I only see 1 bass player. jk

  • use ears!! if u not a drumer u better dont comment...

  • believe double 16th destroys you, it absotively kills and takes years to even come close to Lars speed. So it's either jealousy or............nevermind. Jealousy, the wee green beastie.

  • Back in the day, when Metallica was still a snarling beast getting drunk, touring and what not, Lars had the speed to play every song note for note no problem. Listen to the 1987 record for Creeping Death NOT the cd the effing Vinyl. Note for note every track. But when you are playing the length of setlists these guys play, you can't blame Lars for taking it easy so as not to burn out before the end of the setlist. You seen how many bottles of fluid he has at his feet???

  • lol since when playing double bass determined skill ? ... this video is trash

  • double bass is when u use two feet to play 16th note patterns. Lars play the trash beat using ONE foot therefore no double bass

  • this sounds stupid as fuck without double bass

  • haha gooo kirk ... i really want to get to go to one of there concert when they come to houston!!!!!

  • Yo,in response to ur comment yes i can hear triple bass drum and yes i know lars can do double bass im a big metallica fan but what he's doing here is triples like u said.Lars used to be able to do savage fast double kick but not anymore im afraid, dont get ur knickers in a twist man!!

  • SHUT UP YOUR MOUTHS AND HEAR KIRK SOLOING

  • And this is why alot of their songs don't have double bass. I still love Metallica, but Kirk will always be my favorite.

  • lars sucks. replace him, he's done. love u bro but ur done

  • and I love lars expression while playing drumm.. oftenly he get up from chair and look bang the stik.. awesome... mike tramp cant do that...

  • ive seen lars play dobel bass on 92 in jakarta.. its so long time agooooo...

  • I LOVE HOW THEY ARE TRYING TO PROVE THAT LARS USES DOUBLE BASS WHEN HE DOESNT AND CANT

  • I see a lot of claims that Lars didn't play Dyers Eve on the album... Where's the proof?

  • i'm guitar player and i'm beter then him lol. mutch beter

  • I can hear the bass drum on the beats, that's fine. And I can heat bass guitar playing some 16th notes. But where is the bass drum on the 16th notes or just somewhere between the beats? I can't hear any good evidence of double bass. Not that I care if he does it, just that this video doesn't prove or disprove anything.

  • ok people. getting old is not an excuse for sloppy ass drumming. neil peart, whom is 10 years older than lars- mike mangini who was born the same year as lars- are great examples of older rock and metal drummers that are still brutal as fuck AND playing their old songs EXACTLY the way they played them 20+ years ago, if not better. the fact that lars is getting older doesnt have shit to do with it.

  • @CaptainDirtFace That is sooooo true!

  • @CaptainDirtFace Agreed. Look at Dave Lombardo. He's 46 years and is better than ever.

  • @smoothhitman1 dam right.lombardo is a beast. whoever posted this video with a title like "the best proof ever" is a complete fucking idiot, and obviously not a drummer. its completely clear that he isnt playing this the way it was played on the album. and im not even sure he ever played it on the album. i cant find one single live video of them playing dyers eve where he plays continuous 16th note double bass. wouldnt surprise me if it was looped or triggered because he couldnt play it.

  • @CaptainDirtFace it seems like he just doesnt care anymore

  • @CaptainDirtFace I agree... but being lazy will have an effect on his playing...Neil and Dave both are tech. more sound than lars... he is a power drummer that does not care anymore...

  • NO DOUBLE BASS HERE!!

  • @TheKingu66 no. you cant hear triple bass drum ?

  • @TheKingu66 are you fucking serious

  • @TheKingu66 who cares? great song

  • He can bust his nut for the fans once and a while ;)

  • lars seems to be very focused on playing well in this vid

hes not doing faces and he doesnt look like having fun

if hes not then i rather the lars that play bad

  • ...Also, with 12 measures in a run, sixteenth-note double-bass puts that at 192 bass-drum hits. It's played at about 204 beats per minute. I wouldn't expect any 45-year-old man to be able to do that. I wasn't at the Justice recording sessions, so I don't know if the double-bass parts were "Audioshopped" in, but I assume they weren't. He's twenty years older. Cut him a break. Most of us can't do that at our average age of 23.

  • @MKDumas1981 if you want to see a 49 year old man play blistering double bass then look up mike mangini.

  • @MKDumas1981 jesus christ, that is the worst excuse ever. seriously, you can look up videos of jazz drummers in their seventies with fucking INSANE chops. you don't automatically get worse with age, it's not like your body starts breaking down at forty. mike mangini for example, he's lars's age and still one of the fastest all-around guys in the world.

  • I would like everyone to keep this in mind: They never played Dyer's Eve live while Jason was in the band. As such, this performance couldn't have been any earlier than 2004. If my James Hetfield clock is working the way it should be, this would be the middle of 2009. With a birthdate of December 26, 1963, that would make him 45 during this show, turning 46 that December. When ...And Justice For All was recorded in 1988. Using the same birthdate, he would have been 25....
