  • I never knew the Viking had the nickname "Hoover", but you can sure hear why in this video lol.

  • 7 people missed the runway.

  • My thoughts as the video progressed...perfect weather + Naval Aviation + carrier landing = holy cow, they pay people to have this much fun!!

  • type of plane?

  • @iceskull11 i think an a-6

  • 7 people are communist

  • hell yeah!

  • This is the retired S-3Viking "Hoover"

  • would this be more difficult or equally as difficult as landing say for example a 777 in an airport? or is it a lot easier?

  • @fireplacetea landing on a carrier moving at 45+ knots is extremely diffrent and 10x more challenging, did you know 80% of civilian airliners have auto pilot landing capabilities now?

  • You'd think the co-pilot would have the decency to stop vacuuming the cockpit whilst the pilot's trying to land.

  • There is no reverse on carrier planes ! Ha Ha! You miss the wire and you "bolter" and go around again..Once the hook catches the wires, the arresting cable runs out to bring the plane to a halt so you're not brought to an instant stop.Instant stop would break the plane in half not to mention killing the pilot.

  • No Grade... OSX LOIM-IC NEPAR

  • No Grade... OSX CB NEPAR

  • Was he in an A-6?

  • @SpecOperator498 He was in an S-3 anti-submarine aircraft.

  • AWESOME!

  • WOW that was awesome, thanks for sharing

  • Actually you throttle up because the wires might make the nose rise up, scraping the rear

  • @HasThisHappenToY0u You must be on full throttle so if you miss the arrester wires you can go round again

  • @HasThisHappenToY0u no, they throttle up so if they miss the wires they can go around and not fall off into the water.

  • Its not supposed to be smooth it snot an airliner with a baby on board, luggage and an lolcat only two men

  • Nice...

  • sshit that was pro.

  • So not smooth

Dude that's a heli or something going on a rumway

  • @tobyanko you try going from 500 mph to 0 on a moving object thats about 1000ft lol

  • @gluemakesmepoo Well not exactly 500 mph. a little bit slower, just a bit slower, for example arround 140~150 mph.

  • Are they flying in a Viking?

  • gtcp371, did you know two thirds of all america's gas supply goes to the civilian sector? I don't know how much THAT is, but it's a buttload MORE than the military.

We don't fight our enemies with armored smart cars, we fight with 40 ton tanks. You have problem with that then talk to your congressman and go pass the legislation to change it and stop bitching on YouTube.

  • @ValhallaOrBust85 I love you... You are now my hero. Thank you so much for correcting me. I love you.

  • Humm, that looked easy. Of course Tiger Woods makes playing golf look easy too.

  • Did you know the military uses ONE THIRD of all the gas in America!

    ONE THIRD.

You know how much that is?

    Thats a fricken butt load.

    damn.

  • @gtcp371 if we trapped everyone's farts in bottles we could cut gas costs by 9%

  • @TenaciousAP1 Thats true and funny.

How would we use the farts?

  • @TenaciousAP1 that a great idea!!

  • @TenaciousAP1 Hmmm...fart in a bottle.LOL

  • @gtcp371 That's why they started using nuclear powered, only have to "stop for gas" once every 13 years...

  • @TyVulpine Do they use nuclear power aircraft?

  • @doughauf Only if you want a mushroom cloud in a crash landing...

  • This is amazing. What our video games are are someone's life.

  • must be a hell of a rush

  • That's a Viking right?

  • dats a cool landing

  • This is cool

  • People like me that dream to become a fighter pilot go so emotional when watching things like this ! Nothing on earth could make me feel better than being able to do that even while knowing i m risking my life !

  • it just looks so easy ..

  • Navel aviators are the best! Look how calm he is. Nothing to it. Totally fantastic!!!

  • It isn't reverse thrust. You throttle up to take off again in case a cable snaps or there is some other abort reason. Landing on a carrier is double hard for that reason, you are landing and taking off (in case of an abort) at the same time.

  • whats the slowest speed that the aircraft carrier can be at for landing

  • reverse thrust i guess.....

  • reverse thrust i guess...

  • whats really amazing is how they power the engines back up when they hit instead of turning them down. If you listen carefully at the end as they touch down he pushes them back up incase of bolter.

  • It's amazing how a chunk of flying metal lands on a floating chunk of metal and then stops instantly

our technology today is really amazing! ^^ XD

  • wow if this low end technology amazes you, what is gene therapy or cloning to you?

  • @naisi hehex! I was simple minded that day when I wrote my comment ^^ XD

  • @naisi

haha prolly some orgasmic shit for him xD haha

  • ha ha lol everything these days is a chunk of metal

  • @ixorafy its just a really stong bungie cord

  • @ixorafy lol it's not amazing if you know how it works, it's very simple, they stop the same way as in world war 2.

  • @ixorafy it sucks man

  • @ixorafy it not that good man

  • i lv the aircraft carrier desighn for take off and landings its awsome

  • then at night in bad weather! amazing

  • At the very last second of landing, you have to go full throttle :D in case you miss it

  • 472marine -- that's the Mighty War Hoover (the Lockheed S-3 Viking); its nickname derives from the fairly unique sound of its engines which, as you can hear in the clip, kinda sounds like a vacuum cleaner (if one uses a bit of artistic license).

raderrader -- I'm a Non-Flying Object, and *I* could land on runways the size the Civilian Flying Club uses (actually have, in fact). Try it on a 600-foot runway that moves. At night. In bad weather. _Then_ tell me who the real pilots are. ;)

  • is that an a-6? please respond back to me

  • it's a EA-6b (electronic jammer)

  • @venturafor2012

    no... its a s-3 viking

  • socialist carrier and jet..and pilot. *sarcasm*

  • soooooooooooooo goooooooooooddddddd

  • this is one of the cooolest thing about navy pilot.

  • ...it takes guts, and a hell of a lot of knowledge and training to do that...:D

  • yeah navy pilots 2nd best to air force pilots hahahahah nice landing

  • Thats very calm water they're sailing in. Do you know where they are?

  • Seems sooo imposible.

  • anybody notice how he rams the throttle to full on touchdown?

  • Yes, its normal, everybody does it.

  • that was my point :)

  • reverse thrusters

  • @tingrin666 actually, not. The pilot pushed the throttle to full power just in case he misses the wires. There's no need for reverse when you have the arresting cables, and if you missed the cables, you'd be in the ocean.

  • AAh, Yes...my mistake!

  • @AA757223 Wow, smart, that explains how they swoop up again if they miss

  • Yes, that's in case they miss the wires and have to takeoff again and try the landing again. It's called a "bolter"

  • starbuck2143 has it right.

  • Yeah he is supposed to do that...

  • this must be the coolest job in the world.... thinking of kids explaining their parent's jobs. they can use a live tranmission of their parent's current activities. one kid shows this. mum's just landing on an aircraft carrier in the red sea... omg so outstanding

  • Viking anyone?

  • No wonder crews nicknamed the S-3 the 'Hoover'.

  • Most definately an S-3 viking.

  • cool landing nice work

  • ThTS A PROWLER OR AN INTRUDER

  • S-3 all the way

  • S-3B viking actually

  • Its absolutely not an Intruder or a Prowler, there is no refueling probe visible. The Intruder had a prominent refueling probe that was always in the view

  • S-3B Hoover?

  • wasnt that a hard landing? I'm not so good at those things but it looked kinda hard.

  • A 'firm' landing is encouraged, besides this isn't that hard its just the cameraman getting jolted around a little.

  • it only looks rough because the plane hooks onto stretchy cables running across the carrier deck which is how the plane slows dow from 130 knots to a stop on a short runway

  • I love how you can hear him go full throttle when he touches down. Such a sexy sound. lol

  • lol it sure is XD

  • why does he do that?that's in case he fails the landing?

  • Yeah. If he misses the hook he has to push the throttles wide open and pray he can go around and try again :-)

  • Great vid and text book landing.

  • "Like a glow", lol

  • The plane is a Grumman A6 Intruder

  • Must be older video then? There has not been Intruders since... '97?

  • I think its a E-2 Hawkeye

  • It is an S-3 Viking.....A-6 doesn't have a center window support on its cockpit, it doesn't have wipers, and it was retired in 97.

  • Hmm...

  • yes it does it flys as a tanker

  • This is a US Navy S-3 Viking, doesn't fly anymore.

  • is this the su34?

  • Yeah. great vid, i want to join the US Navy as a pilot and fly an F18!

  • i think its a grumman ea-6 prowler

  • Awsome vid but what plane is it???

  • wow amazing :D since the cables catch planes, could they pull the plane back again?

  • There is generally a small slingshot effect. You can probably see in a few videos in the time between coming to a stop and raising the hook to taxi, the plane will roll back slowly.

  • Thats great viewing.

  • Awsome! I want to Fly the B2-Stealth Bomber. Love that Plane.

  • holy shit! navy pilots are so good. very impressive movie!

  • he looks bored, just another day at work, amazing

  • NICE, DADDY LIKES

  • What arcraft

  • i think its an E3

  • close,,,, s3

  • id like to ski on that carriers wake.

  • zajeebiste

  • great video, amazing pilot. i was trying to land in flight simulator on an aircraft carrier...it's nearly impossile

  • What kind of plane?

  • the flying hoover or the S-3 Viking.

  • Anyone who lands a plane on the deck of a moving surface has my absolute and unwavering respect! Seriously! Thanks for sharing this.

  • The Hoover vacuum cleaner sound gives it away - it is an S-3 Viking. We nick-name them "Hoover" in the fleet. A-6 Intruder and EA-6 Prowler also have side-by-side seating.

  • Well you guys are unbelievable, thank you for doing what you do.

  • cool

  • its not reverse thrusters. when the plane touches down you go full power in case u miss the trap and have to go around

  • seems like you are going super slow, i almost thought it was a helicopter with the windshield washers. thats some flying skill to land on a carrier. cool shot

  • is that an A-6e intruder?

  • nope it's an s3b viking

  • ya ur right only the s3 has 2 seats right next 2 each other like that

  • Totally Bad-ass American Pilot

  • I love how he goes full throttle at the end!

  • if he misses the cable, his engine's at full throttle if he has to go-around

  • yeah I know that, I just like the sound! :)

  • It seems to me that he is going into full throttle. You just don't stop an engine that fast and make it go the other way. My guess is he throttled up just to get the plane fully down due to the under pressure which will come, when your flaps are fully extracted and you throttle up

  • what aircraft is that?

  • a-6 maybe i dont think an f-111 but who knows

  • S-3 Viking

  • ok thanks

  • it's a S-3 Viking!!

only the S-3 Viking has wipers on it's windscreen!! you can see them clearly in this short film!!

  • Wow, talking about trained and experienced pilot

  • Bravo!

  • I'd like to land my plane a carrier one time.

  • Hey! Cool Vid! Check out my channel and vids.

  • Awe inspiring!!!

  • Dragon2sword, what do you know about that anyway. It is better than what you do with your life... we risk our asses for you and thats all you got. Go get a life man and get some respect.

  • wowo thats looks like a bumpy ride but good job

  • id love 2 wakeboard behind 1 of those ships

  • What game is that from? I play LOMAC but that one looks like even better graphics.

  • Lol... Nice1! ^^

Oh and just a tip: try Jane´s F/A-18 instead of LOMAC. Old Graphics but MORE sim...

  • its not a game smart one its a real landing

  • lol,

    retard

  • WOOT! nice vid, S-3's rock!

  • SHEEEETTT BOXXXX!!!

  • Sierra Hotel!!!

  • AWE INSPIRING!!!

  • S-3 viking forever

  • God, I'd be shitting myself landing on that

  • Very cool. Thanks

  • Awesome video, thanks.

  • It is an S-3 from VS-21 Stationed in this Video in NAF Atsugi Japan, Video was taken in the Persian Gulf August 1999. I forget now who the LCDR in command was.

  • You can tell if its an A-6 by a fixed in-flight refueling probe that juts out in front of the windscreen

  • I was an Aviation Electronics Technician (AT3) in that squadron from '93 to '95. Its an S-3B Viking from Sea Control Squadron 21 Fighting Redtails landing on what appears to be the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). The A-6 Intruders were retired last decade, replaced by the F/A-18s

  • A6 Intruder, I think.

  • It looks like an A6 Intruder.

  • what aircraft is this?

  • S-3 Viking..Anti submarine warfare, inflight tanker, and sea control aircraft.
