Eric Alatorre is the bass. I just listened to their CD of Palestrina's Missa Pro Defunctis, and his voice is absolutely breathtaking. I'm on a search to hear more of him, because I've just never heard a bass that good before.
I saw them on The Today Show the other day, and they looked nothing like this photo. Either much of the personnel has changed, or this picture was taken a couple of decades ago.
@edwardjames50 The ensemble does change yearly, at least auditions are held every year. This picture is from around 6 years ago, although 5 of these members are still in the group, and another has become their music director. New or old, they're all amazing if you ask me!
Can't decide if I like the arrangement of these guys or voice male more. Don't get me wrong, I think Chanticleer is a better group, but Voice Male's arrangement comes close. Having said that, this is tied for first for my favorite version of this song. The musicality is truly breath-taking.
Not only a great blend and ambience, but they sound as if they practice for effect, not just performance, which requires a vision on the part of the arranger, not just the vocalists. This is great stuff. Celtic Woman had this effect, such as in "Wexford Carol."
@McKeeDee Eric Alatorre is the name of the 'monster' Bass, and yes, he's the one with the handlebar 'stache up above. He's been a long time member of the group. He was in it, when they came to Bowling Green State University in the late 1990's. They are such a joy to watch and listen to, live!!
Awe-inspiring.

Pretty sure the arrangement is by Joseph Jennings, the director. You can find the sheet music in Chanticleer's Christmas Anthology.

@pickleprincess01 You should listen to Wade in the Water by Chanticleer. He solo's the whole time! :)

I have heard many versions of this beautiful chant, but never one clearer, finer, nor so heartfelt.

Simply breathtaking, gentlemen. I hope to participate in a men's ensemble with half this ability someday.
