this is one of my favorite bosses. I don't know why, the gameplay of it is just...fun! though it seems NiGHTS can't really get hurt too much in this, and when he does, i can't figure out why... All Donbalon does thats harmful is cause frustration with his rebounds, and annoy you to know end with that irritating laugh...other than that, this game is great.

NiGHTS is invincible; "damage" means you lose 5 seconds off the timer. I don't even know how Donbalon is supposed to fight, or why he's not worried at all that NiGHTS is pushing him ever closer to those spikes and nothing can slow that down.

Donbalaon was very fun to fight. His laugh just made me want to kill him! As though, he really was stealing all the kids's dreams and turning them to nightmares. LOVE THIS GAME!

According to SEGA, NiGHTS has no gender. NiGHTS is just an "it." A translation error made Reala refer to NiGHTS as a "him" by mistake in one cutscene.

I don't think it's a translation error. "Him" "he" and "his" are used as default pronouns for NiGHTS, despite NiGHTS' status as genderless. Reala and other characters refer to NiGHTS as "him" for this reason.

No, there's a lot more evidence that NiGHTS is genderless. If you're referring to Reala calling NiGHTS a "he," it was a translation error. There's no gender assignment to NiGHTS at all in the Japanese dialogue.

If you can dig up an issue of SEGA Visions, the official SEGA magazine dring the 90s, it says that right in there in an interview with Yuji Naka. It also used to be up on the official website.

NiGHTS is a Nightmaren created by Wizeman. No one is sure whether NiGHTS is male or female, and SEGA wants it that way.

I think Donbalon was born that way...though it's still rather stupid to install spikes on his ceiling that would kill him.

(Well, actually, the spikes only incapacitate him. In the story, Wizeman kills off Donbalon for good.)

Nah, Donbalon doesn't really do anything. Not even in the cutscenes. NiGHTS can get hurt from Donbalon, but only through rebounds when NiGHTS throws him.
