Try Simviation. They've got a HUGE selection of top-notch planes for everything from FS95 to FSX.

it all matters how popular the flight sim is, if its been selling in several years and its been reviewed and has a good rating then its one of the best flight sim games ever

Can't really agree with that, FS2004 runs flawlessly on new systems, but FSX allows for much higher realism with higher resolution terrain meshes and ultra high resolution scenery textures. Not only that but even the new addon aircraft look tenfold better than FS2004 with bumpmapped rivets and extreme level detail. And of course FSX allows for much more in depth simulation than fs2004.

I love fs2004 and clung to it for 2 extra years, but eventually FSX proved to be better.

I wouldn't go rushing into that so fast, b/c in order to get good quality in FSX, you need DX10, which in turn you need Vista, and Vista is not exactly stable, as XP. I am sticking to XP, and FS9, until MS gets its act together.

good4u. Thats why I still use FS9, b/c even at maximum, with addons that add high res textures, I still get 25-30FPS. Even they hadn't changed the texture format to DDS, FSX might run well, but they changed FSX to DDS texture format which makes FSX 20x larger than FS9, which uses BMP, and is only 2-3GB alone.

Yea, that kinda blows. But I have a big HD so not too bad. I like things about FS9, and like things about FSX. They are both insanely awesome games. But, FSX sucks on the login. GameSpy SUX. You gotta log in like 10 times before you actually stay in the lobby without getting kicked saying "You logged in on another computer"

Ya I hear ya there. And changing to DDS is a bitch, now it's a hassle to edit aircraft liveries. I used to love editing the aircraft textures with photoshop and putting my face on the tail ^_^ Now it just makes me mad, gotta get a converter and convert to a certain type then convert back to a DDS in the high qual format......... hehe

Yea, true. I found a XP version of DX10, that will allow you to play FSX under DX10 on XP, so you don't need the unstable Vista. I have it installed now, and I have had no problems, with DX. Its not hacked, or anything, just one line in the config file allows it to be installed on XP.

I have Vista, it is not that unstable. There's really nothing wrong with it, and I don't know why people hate it so much. Almost all of my games work flawlessly on it, and it has only crashed once in the past year and half. It's a great OS.

I had Vista, and its not that bad, but its a memory hog, and my digital camera stopped working with Vista, I had upgrades out my a**. Plus, a lot of my programs, like 3DS MAX v8 didn't work with Vista, and only the newer versions did, and my plugins, are v8 only, and so I went back to XP, and found the DX10 version for XP, done by this company, for people who want DX10 quality, without Vista. I read many ppl who get a new pc with Vista, format it, and go back to XP, lol.

You are very right about memory hogging. It brings down my performace a bit. Sometimes I wish I had XP, but I am satisfied with Vista. If I had the choice between XP and Vista, I would probably choose XP just because my games do work better on it. I have had XP on here before but I had issues. But XP came off of a reinstall disc that came with my dad's PC. That might have been the problem. If you don't run games in fullscreen your performace eats crap cause the memory is all eaten up...
