practiced my first dance-steps to this music, after coming home from dancing-school. it was my fathers favorite ... and only record ... he owned at that time.
Baby, das war 1958 - da war'n die Leuts schon 13 Jahre aus dem Krieg zurück, das Wirtschaftswunder boomte, und alles war dabei, verhütungslos dumme Bälger wie Dich & mich zu zeugen ...
I grew up around Billy Vaughn's music. At about two years of age, I danced to his "Swingin' Safari" As an alto saxist in high school, I used his recordings to pattern my vibrato after. My private teacher said, "Now Billy Vaughn-that's how a sax should sound!!" AT one time I had many of his Dot 45's. But was was great in backing up Pat Boone and others in late '50's early '60's.
TenStarsplus!!! Timeless!!! The only one who EVER came close to Billy Vaughn on sax, was Guy Lombardo!!! They both had that sweet mellow mesmerizing sound!!! Thank you for posting this song!! Stephen
I still listen to Billy Vaughns music and never get fedup with it, also I transfered all my 45's of his on to a CD so I can listen to them in the car. Also my Connie Francis songs which he did the backing for. Great musician!!
HEY GUYS!!! I have the video where those photos where taken from. In the next day's I'll be uploading the songs on my channel I PROMISE. It's such a Wonderfull Play.
Hi Richard, I'm from Nicaragua, I`ve heard your father's music since I was a child and I still enjoy it; it makes me dream on olders times and remember to My father and Brother who like me loved those beautiful melodies; Oh God, how much I long for them. I'm and will be up to die fan of Billy Vaughn's music.
When I was a kid, my parents used to listen to Billy Vaughn's music and dance to it too. I still have a lot of records, 45rpm, which I treasure. I have just listened to SAIL ALONG SILVERY MOON, LA PALOMA, WHEELS, EINE NACHT IN MONTE CARLO, and I started to cry. Too many memories. Mr. Richard Vaughn has nothing to worry about: his father's music will be forever with us, deep in our hearts. Thanks a lot for posting this. Greetings from Switzerland.
I used this song for a theme on my radio show in the mid 1960s. It was my favorite recording. I had some letters from Billy in the mid 1970s. He was great. My friend Del Casher used to play guitar with Billy. Wonderful video.
My folks use to teach American Round Dancing and had a dance they taught to this tune to middle-class people in their rec room at their home and elsewhere in N.E. Ohio. Brings back lots of lovely memories of people having a good time.
I remember this song when i was young. 50 years later i can still appreciate this meaniful music, thankyou for posting and i wish we had more great musicians like
@sPitternaut Hopefully, these folks could play WELL....is there a dumbing down where everyone has their own 'talent'...even if they have a lousy sound and poor intonation?
I've been playing my saxophone along with Billy Vaughn's music for a long time. I don't sound too bad if I crank up the sound to about 110 Db and cover my mistakes..
I never heard this album, but I remember "Golden Saxophones" , and I would recognize that sound anywhere - a beautiful, mellow sound. Thanks for posting.
This is not just music. It is an epic reality ! When I heard this song after a long time I remembered vividly the USIS Library in Madras, India (where I first heard this song) including the furniture arrangement !
This is music from heaven! Billy Vaughn is a great soul ! May his tribe increase !
I was hooked on this Tune, the very first time I heard it at a Friend's house recently, and so went Home and downloaded it from You Tube, to listen to, over and over a bunch of times. It is sooo beautiful ! I will be 54 September 2nd - Madam George/Boffyflow(Canada's West Coast)
richnerdy...only have a couple of Dad's albums...the best!..."Sail Along Silvery Moon" and the one with "Orange Blossom Special' and "Wheels"...if only I could find someone to fix my record player!!!!...Tunesmith
Thank for posting the pics. It was my dad's last tour of Japan, though not the last for the orchestra. Great to see there are still fans of my father's music.
@rich nerdy Your fathers music will live on for ever. He is a real pleasure to listen to. Billy Vaughn's music sets me in a great mood every time I hear it being played. What a talented musician.
@richnerdy I have been a fan of your dad's ever since I was 3 years old... I am 26 now... he was my first favorite artist, and still my favorite non-country artist. I make the distinction "Non-Country" as old country music is what I specialize in these days... but I still have a box containing nearly all your Dad's Dot LPs, plus a dozen or so reel to reel tapes of his. My Hands-Down favorite is "Wheels and Orange Blossom Special".
Hi Richard, bumped into this by accident and just wanted to drop you a note. Your dad was not only popular in the west. He probably wouldn'thave known this, but his music was adored by fans as far away as in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). Sail Along Silvery Moon was an all time hit on Radio Ceylon (the only entertainment media. We didn't have TV then) and I grew up with such superb music.
Richard, were you able to see your father perform at many concerts? I remember his tunes, even though I was young when they came out. If I remember, Raunchy was the "B" side of this song on the 45.
There will always be. I am in India and used to love his music in the sixties. I am myself in late sixties now. Some of the hit counts of his numbers are mine!
@richnerdy I grew up totally obsessed with music of Billy Vaughn and Ray Conniff (chorus more than singers, and I hated Billy Vaughn few singers efforts) - I always wondered if they ever met and what thay thought of each other? One of my favourite records of all times is Billy's The Big 100 although it is not the most recognisable Billy Vaughn. Still have all the albums, many travelled 3-4 months from Ray Avery's Rare Records in Glendale, California by surface mail to Belgrade in Yugoslavia...
isn't he the greatest for this type of music.......brings back alot of memories for me and my husband who is now in heaven......enjoy baby !!!!!!!!!!!

Just a short note to acknowledge your father's accomplishments in the music business.

Sail along, silvery moon,Trail along lover's lane, Sail along, silvery moon,
To my love again.
In the glow of your light, Let me see her tonight, Once again, hold her tight,
Back in lover's lane.
And then the whole world wll seem brighter, As we stroll hand in hand,
Two blue hearts will be lighter,
You understand,
Sail along silvery moon, Trail along lover's lane, Sail along, silvery moon,
To my love again.
