Teeva's rather sweet when she smiles. I think she's the only Draag we see smiling? (I guess the fact that their facial expressions are always so blank and the fact that they never blink just adds to their creepiness)
I don't really think you can compare this movie to Avatar. The only thing both movies have in common are blue skinned aliens and weird ecosystems. Terr is a human just like the others. He's not a Draag turned into a human who joins them in a revolt.
Well Cameron made it the other way around but he did borrowed some elements from this, Man Called Horse, Last of the Mohicans, Lightyears (aka Gandahar), Ferngully, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Pom Poko, Dune, Star Wars and Willow.
my dad tried to get me to watch this when i was a kid, but i didnt like the vibe and didnt want to watch it.. so here i am many years later, and im enjoying it alot more
I knew I would like this since im into strange and abstract movies but has really drawn me in. Naturally you wouldnt expect this to be so exciting :D.
Anyone thinks this is the original Avatar? in fact it's one of James Cameron's favorite animated movies and used it as one of the inspirations to his new movie.
around 8:56 he mentions he managed to acquire some knowledge of the draags. it sounded like he said "drugs". hahaha. very full of symbolism. the surreal landscapes and crosshatching is beautiful
This 2-D animated film conveys more emotion and power than, most if not all, of the 3D animated films of today, and whoever says 2D animation is outdated hasn't seen this film yet.
@joejumps4fun Alain Goraguer was heavily influenced by American funk musicians who emigrated to France in the seventies to record their material (much of Goraguer's music from this film has been sampled by modern hip-hop DJs and producers)
whoa wait when i first saw this i thought at 2:20 she had a girl in her right hand and a boy in her left hand. Then she put that thing on his head and i thought she was going to have them mate or something. That scared me quite a bit
At 2:03, Tiwa is momentarily distracted by her other "toys". I find this very interesting and very foreshadowing. Also much emphasis is made to the drop of water falling from Tiwa's finger. Symbolic of the spatial relationships between Draags and tiny Oms.... a drop of water to a Draag, is very much to an Om.
Now the visions the men are sharing.... very odd. It further alienates and bewilders Ter. A similar reaction is found later from him during the Om Mass sex.... incredible film!
One of those rare movies you would watch stoned and also with your kids, but probably not both at the same time

this movie makes one go through a humbling moment in thought when you contemplate that this could be taking place in a parallel universe.

the music reminds of some of the atmosphere songs on early Pink Floyd albums, or Tangerine Dream's Enchore. gotta love the 70s
