Never got it working. I downloaded Stream SDK and all examples just say, that OpenCL device is not present. When I add to it that my card is still suffering from Grey Screen Of Death, which ATI seems unable to resolve in drivers after 9.12, I have to say I'm disappointed. Combined with the fact that OpenCL is not working with ATI cards in Linux, unless the XServer is running, our company decided to use CUDA instead ... too bad. Hardware of ATI is good - the rest sucks ass.

@ReaverCortex it happens that AMD doesnt like the Comunists Linux Users and demanding the fucking source code , if you really want to use the SDK use it in Faildows but if you only want Unix the use it in Fag OS , choose to become or a Windows Nazi or a FAC user or keep been a Linux Communists

Many fanboi's (epecially those at my work, I am a game tester) will tell you that the combination setup isn't worth it. BUT, being able to have a company make all 3 key area's (processor, chipset, graphics) allows for everything to work better. Its just like getting brands that work, like for example, Geil's DDR3 1333 memory that is "i7 ready". You can use it on MOST motherboard no problem, where as another brand may only work on 1 or 2 motherboards. Combination building is best.

@ashomsky lulz. :) would be wierd to have that happening (for amd) so yes i guess it's hardly going to happen. On the other side, why Intel should ever have to bother itself about an opponent company's tecnologies if that company clearly goes for fitting it to its hardware only... Intel and Amd have been quarreling and producing court trials since 80's.

But the question is, does the CPU have to be specially designed to use ATI stream? If so, I would guess that AMD and Intel would be unlikely to work together to make ATI stream work with Intel CPUs. But if ATI stream is CPU-independent then it seems like it should work. Or maybe it works, but less efficiently, as bastec666 suggests.

Ok, I just got a new computer with an Intel i7 920 CPU and ATI Radeon 4850. In order to make ATI stream work with Adobe Premiere, you need The ATI Catalyst Driver and a plug-in for Premiere. The premiere plug-in install fails. It says "This software is only licensed for use on AMD systems." and then "Installation ended prematurely because of an error."  So for Premiere anyway, the answer is no, it doesn't work with Intel CPUs.

looks really nice and promising, but in the beginning he said "what OpenCL on AMD means is ....".

I thought OpenCL was supposed to run on ALL systems, ALL operating systems, ALL processors and ALL gpus (that support it). but if THIS OpenCL is just for AMD/Ati CPUs/GPUs, what's the point of it? then you could just continue to use Stream or CUDA!

I want a system that really works EVERYWHERE, just re-compile it and it's running with top-speed

debugged and this vid doesnt load on 480p. only on 360p and 720p
