  • Linda musica!!!!

  • does anyone know the name of the lady who plays timpany ,

  • Beautiful!

  • tcherkin's pure class

  • Beautiful !

  • I treasure Love and Beauty in music and Georgi Cherkin provides both in this masterful performance with an orchestra totally reflecting Rachmaninoff's sweeping grandeur. Even though the videos are cut short I am still thankful that in this 21st century we have YouTube allowing us to bring the concert hall into our homes and delighting our sensorial pleasures at our leisure.

  • Hey tcherkin: any idea what's with all the dislikes on these videos recently? I have a feeling it's not really user opinion about the video so much as something else.

  • who disliked? really...?

  • @Doon1990 and there's a lot of dislike.. i really don't understand those people

  • and how can ANY NORMAL, INTELLIGENT human being not like this?!

  • he is amazing, i am astonished at his own personal voice on the piece.

  • FOK!!!!!

  • This is the most moving piece of music ever written...AJO

  • when such an exquisite thing is cut into two parts right at a climatic defining moment, I sometimes wonder if, as retribution from God, if the uploader will meet the true love of their life, and just before consummation of the first embrace and kiss, step on a land mine

  • Now I burst into tears.

  • I'm a jazz saxophonist....but- this guy and this orchestra is amazing.......I have goosebumps...this is one of the most exciting things I have heard in a long time....I want to buy this recording.

  • 6:30 is pretty epic

  • Favorite~ 超好聽呀~

  • loving this conductor ! thumbs up 4 the orchestra and my fav classical song !

  • Awesome... i love this concert

  • Georgi kills it!! Amazing performance..... hope you keep performing and not spend too much time on your electronic inventions!

  • that is superb quality. I love Ormandy and Bernstein...this sounds wonderful.

  • hmm is that in Sofia ?

  • Your interpretation of this piece is my favorite on youtube

  • this is my favorite ejecution of this concert, incredible

  • *-* Ame!

  • With the violin motions and everything, the part starting at at 0:41 reminds me of a ship.

  • Absolutely perfect tempo and performance!! Great work!! Everyone check out Rachmaninoff's other concertos and his symphonies...He is a master of powerful music...

  • sombre, romantic, passionate...a good interpretation

  • drools

  • It's like a really good porno, a small dose of LSD and THC, and a good cup of coffee 10 minutes after you wake, in one giant orgasmic music burrito of heavenliness.

  • I have been listening to this for 10 years, and im 35!This is the best piano concert ever written! part 1, 2, and 3! sorry mozarts 20th,and tchiakovski s 1st ! Rachmanioff!

  • An MP3 is not available on itunes. An MP4 is however... Great piece.

  • Фантастическое исполнение - великолепно!!!

  • 4:30+ is just...Heaven. The light progression accompanied by the strings into the hectic run on down. Then the strings sing yet again and accompany the frenzied mood of the piano. All building into the wondrous moments that are 6:30-7:14. Then the march begins in the next video. God it's so incredibly beautiful.

  • akory just compile the 2nd part of the video... there is anorher part 2/2

  • Composers refuse to write like this when clearly this is what the public wants. I just finished a large-scale composition written in the romantic tradition entitled, "Symphonic Variations After a Theme of Cesar Franck" for piano and orchestra that is available for listening here on YT but I'm the only one I know who writes in this idiom. Great music like Rach's 2nd Concerto consistently scores at the top of the charts because Rach knew that's what people want to hear. I hope they learn.

  • @JoeTownley only music scholars and people of that sort dislike any music that isn't totally dissonant but the masses enjoy this sort of music.

  • @adamjenson4500 Well, that appears to be the only audience modern avant-garde composers can draw---scholars and like-thinkers. But as I allude, their work gets played once, if at all, and is then shelved. It might survive on the composer's website but that's about all.

  • My friends dont like it, I cant understand how something like this can not melt their hearts...it's completly amazing! Love this piece!

  • Beautiful and at times haunting. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • This piece was deadicated to the doctor who healed him from a depression after his First Symphony went BAADLY wrong. His doctor must feel veeery pleased about that. :)

  • @Darksephiroth901

not any more though. i doubt he's alive...jk

  • 6:21-7:00 is the most beautiful build-up I've ever heard from the Romantic Era. Legit.

  • Stunning composition and performance. I can't believe I've neglected Rach for so long!

  • Great performance! Great Rachmaninoff.

    Thank you Mr. Cherkin

  • если бы можно было вернуться в детство, пошёл бы в муз. школу на ф-но и скрипку ^_^ работал бы до кровавого пота...

  • great recording - i love 2:43 - 3:24 its so romantic :)

  • Lindooo!!

  • IMO, propably the best version of this piece on Utube. =D

  • obojayu etot koncert!!!osobenno pobo4nuyu temu)))))

  • He has such a pretty sound. A little bright for Rachmaninoff but the sound never gets lost in the orchestra

  • Hot recording!

  • To me this is just the right tempo all the way through.

  • @gwaur I agree.

  • The nerve of them to post and cut off such a vital part of the concerto. It would have been well enough to not have posted at all. Phooeey!

  • Bulgaria still have great musicians:)

    Thank you!

  • This is the best humanity has to offer. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • @refrmcetsryt OH YEAH

  • 1:30 - 1:42 is my favorite part.

Its so beautiful and it gets my emotions all meshed up..and it just makes me feel..

    Smitten on the inside.

  • The best version of this song seems to be from Berlin Philarmonic...wonder lol

  • The piece is not complete! My favorite part starts at exactely 07:13, and it's cut off! In fact, most of youtube videos of Racmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto are cut off.

If you want to appreciate the entire masterpiece, buy a CD.

  • @akory99 there's a part 2 to this you know

  • The piece is complete on iTunes - it is now available, the same recording, with very high quality sound. Just visit the link under the description :)

  • @tcherkin And the part two?

  • If you take some time you will see that the video says '(1/2)' so part 2 is here on youtube as well.

  • @akory99 Part 2 is also online. Just check the suggestions on the right. ;-)

  • @akory99 u moeke jonge

  • @akory99 There's a playlist bro

  • @akory99 That's why It says: part 1 of 2 (1/2) @_@

  • @akory99 OMG, yes, I was ready for it and it was cut off!! :-(

  • the best version everso.

  • Beautiful.

  • I so adore Rachmaninoff...flawless

  • Excellent

  • let's see a manga, nodaime cantibile... you've got one of the best version of this song... funny, isn't it

  • the best version

  • Very magnificent piece!!

  • shit. imo there is too much of machine playing by solist. I mean he could make it more musical sometimes.

  • it sounds good with this tempo,

  • Comment removed

  • no hard feelings, he played really nice and i like his interpretation, but Rubinstein's is far better!

  • Telling a story with music.

  • beautiful, though , isn't it a bit slow...?

  • @blargers123 no

  • brilliant.

  • not really, I'd say 6/10

  • wow he is sooooooo into it. damn awesome. :o

  • touching, beautifully touching, music that humbles

  • Intoxicating

  • *_*

  • who is the pianist?

  • Georgi Cherkin

  • Bah, call me a hopeless romantic, but whenever I hear 4:06 - 4:53, I can't help but picture two lovers falling asleep in each other's arms under a sea of glittering stars.

There, I admitted it. Grr... I feel so unmanly right now.

  • Quite the contrary.

  • I feel that way during one part of Tchaikovsky's Concerto in B-Flat.

  • hah, your the man G. Dont think otherwise.

  • oh my god! Me too!

Op 23 no. 5 reminds me of two romantic lovers torn apart by war.

  • @BrackenClelk That makes two of us or going by the number of your thumb-ups, 27 of us. That part in the first movement always has me close to tears. So much for the unmanly attitude :D

  • @BrackenClelk Huh... call ME a helpless romantic, but all I can viddy is the veck I'm holding underwater finally running out of breath.

    There, I admitted it.

  • @BrackenClelk I fail to see what the emotions and the soul-stirring movements of great music has to do with whether one is a man or not...we are humans first, are we not? Man or woman, if one can understand and appreciate the complexity and underlying currents of emotion and passion evoked by such masterpieces as this, it is as testament to our grand human nature as inspired by the Creator.

  • @BrackenClelk as man, admitting unmanly things in front of the Internet is a brave thing to do. You sir, are a true man.

  • @BrackenClelk takes a man or woman to admit that......anyone who cannot appreciate this masterpiece, has lost the connection to their heart, their soul.

Because this does come from the soul as does all good music.

That's why it endures, and pop music apart from a very few, doesn't.

  • @BrackenClelk happened to me once, though. it's not hopeless.

  • exelent pianist

  • beautifully wrote, beautifully played

  • Truly Rachmaninoff

  • I agree with all the superlatives. But this is the unkindest cut of all.

    the break is brutal.

  • the only bright side to the break is that I can find the good part easily...

  • the sound of this piano is phantastic!! is it a Steinway? Man, I am blown away. I love this piece

  • My favorite part of the whole piece is actually the very beginning! :) Its cool how it starts out all quiet and then the melody is amazing. I also like the very low bass notes in the beginning and when the orchestra enters, its really cool sounding!

  • Majestic, Marvelous, purely a Masterpiece

  • this is amazing

  • very gooooooooooood its touching especialy the beginning

  • Мистер Черкин - молодец! очень здорово!

  • this was really Beatiful

    lol lol

    He can make magic ...

  • This was really beautiful.

This piece is really a masterpiece.

    It's just so good.

  • Good Pianist and Good Orchestra:The BEST1!!!!!

  • beast, just PURE beast

  • guau, toca chiiiiido!

  • Ormandy does the best version

  • most bueatiful sound I've ever heard.

  • absolutely amazing...

  • The beginning arpeggios sounded wrong.

  • BRAVO BRAVO! MASTER PIECE

  • Does anyone know where I can get this full song? I have all three movements for his no.1 and no.3, but I can't find anything for this one!

  • This was used in the anime adaptation to Count of Monte Cristo. Very lovely.

  • I love rachmaninov!

  • Who doesn't?!

  • rachmaninov's pieces full of emotions. his compositions are just amazing.

  • without a doubt this is my favorite version of this. great beginning, great speed, great dynamics backed by an excellent orchestra

  • This is certainly not the best piece.

  • This is the best speed!!!!

  • Bravo,Bravo!!! Só atenção no fraseado das cadências!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just love this piece! Rachmaninoff, really knew how to express emotions and make an unforgetable piece!

    Thank you Sergej!

  • I played this in a workshop and I loved it. I played it with António Rosado the portuguese famous pianist.

It was amazing because we all are aged to 16, so the workshop is always a bit hard and we have to work a lot

  • I find it a little slow, a good performance nonetheless

  • Very nice. Please check out my compositions on my youtube page. I'm currently finishing up a string quartet and have the first few movements up on there.

  • This is a nice piece. An excellent composition by one of the greatest composers of all time. I would also recommend listening to the Rubinstein performance.

  • Much, much better than in Nodame.

  • i love this piece so much! it was exciting to see it in Nodame Cantabile <3

  • sorry m8 gotta disagree with you there ;)

  • so beautiful

  • Play with an espresso?

  • yay, loved it

  • He is great!

  • Magestin performance, I'm going to have the pleasure to hear it tonight :)

  • Bravo Maestro!!! nice performance of your orchestra, but no so much so say of your pianist... hes needs fo play it less staccato and more pianissimo with espresion...

  • Comment removed

  • They feel the blues...

  • The orchestra is wonderful. The pianist is good enough that he understands how to blend with the orchestra and play with integrity.

  • Grandioso.
