I treasure Love and Beauty in music and Georgi Cherkin provides both in this masterful performance with an orchestra totally reflecting Rachmaninoff's sweeping grandeur. Even though the videos are cut short I am still thankful that in this 21st century we have YouTube allowing us to bring the concert hall into our homes and delighting our sensorial pleasures at our leisure.
Hey tcherkin: any idea what's with all the dislikes on these videos recently? I have a feeling it's not really user opinion about the video so much as something else.
when such an exquisite thing is cut into two parts right at a climatic defining moment, I sometimes wonder if, as retribution from God, if the uploader will meet the true love of their life, and just before consummation of the first embrace and kiss, step on a land mine
I'm a jazz saxophonist....but- this guy and this orchestra is amazing.......I have goosebumps...this is one of the most exciting things I have heard in a long time....I want to buy this recording.
Absolutely perfect tempo and performance!! Great work!! Everyone check out Rachmaninoff's other concertos and his symphonies...He is a master of powerful music...
It's like a really good porno, a small dose of LSD and THC, and a good cup of coffee 10 minutes after you wake, in one giant orgasmic music burrito of heavenliness.
I have been listening to this for 10 years, and im 35!This is the best piano concert ever written! part 1, 2, and 3! sorry mozarts 20th,and tchiakovski s 1st ! Rachmanioff!
4:30+ is just...Heaven. The light progression accompanied by the strings into the hectic run on down. Then the strings sing yet again and accompany the frenzied mood of the piano. All building into the wondrous moments that are 6:30-7:14. Then the march begins in the next video. God it's so incredibly beautiful.
Composers refuse to write like this when clearly this is what the public wants. I just finished a large-scale composition written in the romantic tradition entitled, "Symphonic Variations After a Theme of Cesar Franck" for piano and orchestra that is available for listening here on YT but I'm the only one I know who writes in this idiom. Great music like Rach's 2nd Concerto consistently scores at the top of the charts because Rach knew that's what people want to hear. I hope they learn.
@adamjenson4500 Well, that appears to be the only audience modern avant-garde composers can draw---scholars and like-thinkers. But as I allude, their work gets played once, if at all, and is then shelved. It might survive on the composer's website but that's about all.
This piece was deadicated to the doctor who healed him from a depression after his First Symphony went BAADLY wrong. His doctor must feel veeery pleased about that. :)
The piece is not complete! My favorite part starts at exactely 07:13, and it's cut off! In fact, most of youtube videos of Racmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto are cut off.
If you want to appreciate the entire masterpiece, buy a CD.
Bah, call me a hopeless romantic, but whenever I hear 4:06 - 4:53, I can't help but picture two lovers falling asleep in each other's arms under a sea of glittering stars.
